GE 9 - THE LIFE AND WORKS OF RIZAL

Activity 2:
A. Instructions: Find a newspaper article in the Internet that
discusses the Rizal Law. Write a short reaction paper or a
paragraph about the article.
I have read an article from Inquirer.net, it was written by Mona Lisa H.
Quizon. The article was about the Rizal Law being mandated to every
public and private schools to educate the youth about Rizal, why he was a
hero. Also, so that the new generations will not forget the hero he was and
his works and countless contribution to the country. It was disputed that the
said Law is not effective in this modern world of cyber technology and
scientific discoveries. The chances of Filipinos to have knowledge of Rizal
is limited to the fact that he is in the one-peso coin. It stated in the article
that our deeper understanding of Rizal has been blocked by our interest in
such things as the internet that we only knew the name — Rizal, not his
works and sacrifices for our freedom— and to this country.

B. What was the intent of the Rizal Law? Write a paragraph about
this.
Based on my findings, to reawaken youth's commitment to the ideas of
liberty and nationalism for which our heroes fought and died. To honor our
national hero for dedicating his life and efforts to the development of the
Filipino character. These are the objectives the Rizal Law aims to achieve.
This law is supposed to introduce the new generation—the youth—Rizal’s
heroic fight for justice and to put an end to the Spanish Regime. This law
includes his inspiring works that plays constant source of patriotism with
which the minds of the youth should be suffused, the Noli Me Tangere and
El Filibusterismo.
