Simplifications/Extensions:

Lesson One:
- For a child who needs enrichment, I will have the student look up other words that are
associated with fractions and write if they have ever seen them before or not.
- For a child who has a reading impairment, I will have pictures associated with the fractions
and the definitions and words that they are familiar with.
- For an English Language Learner, I will have a picture of the word and the word in their
native language and English underneath the picture.

Lesson Two:
- For a child who needs enrichment, I will have them look at mixed numbers on a number line
and determine which two numbers have the greater value.
- For a child who has ADHD, I will provide different types of fraction bars for them to
manipulate so they are not just looking at paper manipulatives.
- For an English Language Learner, I will have a word wall that shows visual representations
of what we are using in class along with the definition and word in English and their native
language.

Lesson Three:
- For a child who needs enrichment, I will have them look at a ruler and determine the
measurements that are used on the ruler.
- For a child with social anxiety, I will provide them the option to choose who they are
comfortable working with first or the option to work by their self.
- For an English Language Learner, I will have a translated version of the steps on the board
for them to write in their math journal.

Lesson Four:
- For a child who needs enrichment, I will have them simplify the answers if they can be
simplified.
- For a child who is deaf, I will make sure that I communicate with the interpreter and answer
any questions the student may have. I will also provide a sheet with the steps and brief
explanations of the tasks.
- For an English Language Learner, I will have the definition on the word wall in English and
their native language. I will also provide a translated sheet that has the steps and directions
for the tasks during class.
Lesson Five:
- For a child who needs enrichment, I will have them create some of the equations during the
game of Flyswatter.
- For a child who has a sensory disorder, I will make sure they are comfortable with playing
the Flyswatter game and if they are not, they will be able to practice adding like fractions
online.
- For an English Language Learner, I will have the steps to playing Flyswatter translated to
their native language for them to have while we play.

Lesson Six:
- For a child who needs enrichment, I will have them also solve problems involving the
addition of mixed numbers that do not have the same denominator.
- For a child who cannot write/read fluently, I will have them describe how they would solve
an addition problem of mixed numbers with the same denominator.
- For an English Language Learner, I will have the vocabulary words listed in their native
language as well as English. I will also have a translated version of the video I show in class.

Lesson Seven:
- For a child who needs enrichment, I will have them complete mixed number fraction
addition with different denominators at each station.
- For a child with ADD, I will offer them a brief brain break between each activity.
- For an English Language Learner, I will have the directions at each station in their native
language as well as visual directions.

Lesson Eight:
- For a child who needs enrichment, I will have them subtract fractions with different
denominators.
- For a child with an auditory impairment, I will provide visual and written instructions for
the student.
- For an English Language Learner, I will provide a translated version of the video discussed
in class and translate the steps for each method in their native language.
Lesson Nine:
- For a child who needs enrichment, I will have them develop different scenario questions
and write the steps to solve the problem.
- For a child who has autism, I will have them use manipulatives and show me how to
subtract fractions with the same denominators at my desk, so they do not feel overwhelmed
by working in groups.
- For an English Language Learner, I will provide visual directions for the expectations while
they are working in their groups and translate the information that they do not understand.

Lesson Ten:
- For a child who needs enrichment, I will have them create their own Quizzizz game for me
to complete.
- For a child with a visual impairment, I will have them work with a partner to answer the
questions.
- For an English Language Learner, I will have a translator app on my computer to help
during the review game.

Culminating Experience:
- For a child who needs enrichment, I will have them create a pizza with 8 toppings and find
two equivalent fractions for each topping. I will also have them create one scenario question
with both an addition and subtraction problem.
- For a child with a sensory disorder, I will have them use only 3 different toppings and create
a smaller pizza so they are not overwhelmed by the amount of supplies.
- For an English Language Learner, I will have the directions translated in their native
language as well as in English.
