READ AND RESPOND. Find out how much you have learned about the learners with difficulty
in communicating by answering these following questions.
1. Define speech and language.
When we say speech, it refers on how we produce sounds and words. It is an oral form of
communicating. On the other hand, language refers to the words we use and how we utilize them to
communicate and express ideas. It is the whole system of words and symbols, which either being
written, spoken, or expressed with gestures and body language that is used to communicate meaning.

RETROSPECTION.
1. Think of people you know who have difficulty in communication. Try to explain their communication
problems by referring to the parts of the lesson.
Someone I know, hardly keep up conversation because of how he enunciate some words which appear
difficult to be understood by the people around him. His communication disorder may varied as
articulation disorder, since he is more likely to mess in enunciating or producing the right sounds of the
words. It is also observed that some of his words got substituted and omitted unconsciously.
2. Recall the times you abused your voice. What were the results? What lesson did you learn from that
experience?
Every time, I did overwork my voice, just like so much engaging myself in a conversation, cheering and
shouting. It literally resulted to strangling, to the point of hardly uttering right sounds of my utterances. I
just realized that if some of our articulation parts didn’t work well or damaged, it would cause some
interruption to our communication.
