Kindergarten Geometry Shapes
The world is made up of a bunch of different shapes. What shapes can you find
in your everyday life?
Pre-Work: Look at the front of your home and draw a picture, bring it to class.

Classroom or outside area to explore
1. I will review shapes while pointing to them and having students say the
names with me, then point out a few examples in the classroom. 5
minutes
2. We will walk around the classroom or outside if the weather is nice and
each student will pick one shape item to bring back to their seat. 10
minutes.
3. Students will show what they found and tell what shape it is. We will
discuss if the shape is flat or solid. 25 minutes
4. Students will label the shapes they see on the front of their home pictures
they drew for the pre-work exercise. 15 minutes
5. Closure/Reminders 5 minutes
Closure/Reminders
To close the lesson, I can find some more examples of shapes and ask students
what shape they think it is. I can also remind them that we can find shapes
everywhere if we are aware of our surroundings.
Assessment
Students will be able to label their home drawings successfully.
Accommodations/Differentiation
If a student finishes their work more quickly than another, they can help a
classmate who is struggling to find a shape in our world.
For a student who may be unable to walk around easily because of a
disability I can pair them with a partner who can grab something they
may not be able to reach or access (like a leaf on the ground or a picture
that may be out of their reach.
Reflection/Evaluation
If students were not able to successfully name shapes at the end of the lesson,
I would likely need to change some aspects of the lesson. I could spend more
time talking about shapes before sending them to find something or give more
real-world examples around the room to help it click more efficiently.
