2. Differentiate Work, Occupation, Job, and Career;

Definition of Terms:
Work- activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result.
Occupation-It is a broad term that encompasses the employment sector or the category of jobs into which
an employee fits. It could also be described as employee’s area of interest. For instance, if the employee
wants to be a reporter for an online news magazine, reporter might be his job or career, but his occupation
is broader – he is a journalist.
Job- A job is generally a means to an end -- a temporary step an employee takes to build a career. In a job,
employee acquires a paycheck and valuable experience that leads to his next job. The series of jobs becomes
his career. If his ultimate goal is to become an attorney, he may benefit from working as a legal assistant to
gain knowledge and experience to meet his career goals.
Career- A career is all about building up skills through various employment opportunities, giving someone
the ability to move on to higher paying and more prestigious ones. Careers provide a foundation of experiences
that help fuel someone’s professional life for many years.

3. What are my talents and strengths?
From the time you were little, you demonstrated talents and strengths that make you unique and can help you succeed
in your chosen career. In fact, Sir Ken Robinson, author of The Element, Out of Our Minds, says that:
You owe it to yourself to ensure that there’s some part of your day or week when you’re doing what comes most
naturally to you and makes you feel at your most centered and authentic.
If you don't know your talents and strengths, make a list of everything you’re good at doing. Your family members,
friends, teachers, boss and mentors can help you write this list that you will use to narrow down potential careers.
4. What is my personality?
Your personality is the way you think, feel and behave. It can be an important part of your career, so consider several
aspects of your personality as you think about your future.

I am…
Donald Super influenced the idea that developing a sense of self and realize that you change over time is important when planning your
career. One of Donald Super's greatest contributions to career development has been his emphasis on the importance of the
development of self-concept. According to Super, self-concept changes over time, and develops through experience. As such, career
development is lifelong.
Super developed the theories and work of colleague Eli Ginzberg – he thought that Ginzberg’s work had weaknesses, which he wanted
to address. Super extended Ginzberg’s life and career development stages from three to five, and included different sub stages.
Super argues that occupational preferences and competencies, along with an individual’s life situations, all change with time and
experience. Super developed the concept of vocational maturity, which may or may not correspond to chronological age: people cycle
through each of these stages when they go through career transitions.
