WELCOME
Welcome to Thonon-les-Bains on the shores of Lake Leman, with the Mont Blanc, the
highest mountain in Europe, watching us !

The Chablais Aviron Thonon (the rowing club) and the City of Thonon-les-Bains worked
jointly to be selected in 2015 and then to prepare the event. A team of volunteers have been
involved in the different required topics and the full Volunteer Team is now ready to welcome
you in the Region of Savoie, and more precisely, in our Chablais.

For the 1st time, WRCC will be hosted on a……lake. But our lake is more than 70 kilometres
(43 miles) in length and can reach 14 kilometres in width (8.5 miles).

And if you think the water is not as salty as you would expect, we would be very happy to
provide some salt from a local Swiss salt mine… Because, remember that the island in front
of Thonon is owned by our friends of…Switzerland!

Have fun, row as much as you can and be sure, we are devoted to the success of
WRCC2017!

HOW TO REACH THE WRCC2017 SITE

To reach Thonon-les-Bains please go to www.wrcch217.com .
The following information is provided to reach the WRCC2017 site in Thonon-les-Bains.

Arriving to the site by car

If you are reaching Thonon using a car/van/truck with or not a trailer, you will find a Welcome
Point, either, the West one or the East one. Both are shown on the following maps.
WRCC2017 Thonon-les-Bains
Page 6

Coming from downtown Thonon, you will arrive at the West Welcome Point. Coming along
Lake Leman (meaning the street from the swimming pool, “La Plage”, to the harbour), you
will reach the East Welcome Point. At both points, you will find Volunteers from the
WRCC2017 Team (dressed in a white vest) who will explain you what to do first.

Basically, it will be to park your boat(s), your trailer and your car/van/truck (for the latter, a
specific ticket will be given free by the Welcome Point team). And then, to get your
Accreditations in order to enter the Sport Village.

Arriving to the site by boat or by train

First thing to do is to go to the Accreditation-Information Centre where you will get your
Accreditations and the necessary information for your stay in Thonon-les-Bains. The map
below is showing the different accesses.

From Lausanne in Switzerland, the CGN boat (www.cgn.ch), you will arrive directly on the
site.

From the train station of Thonon-les-Bains, as shown, you can easily walk to the Cable car
or go down to the harbour.
WRCC2017 Thonon-les-Bains

THE SITE
The main site is the harbour of Thonon, called Rives or Port de Rives and it is divided in 3
Villages:

the Sport Village, which is the competition area with FISA, the judges, the
accesses to the course area and the competitor’s installations (heating, food,
drinks…): the Sport Village is only accessible with an official pass/badge,
the Exhibitor Village dedicated to companies to present their products (boats,
rowing equipment, sport goods, ..),
the Savoy Village to promote local products and Culture to which we are proud.

The global view is shown on the next Figure.

The Accreditation-Information Centre (AIC)

This is the heart of WRCC2017, the place you have to know !

To get your Accreditation for entering the Sport Village. Your pass/badge will offer you
also a free access to the famous cable car which brings you from the harbour to the City
Centre where you will be able to find a large number of shops (bakeries, cheeses, wines…).
For the buses of the Local Transportation System, ask for free tickets at the AIC to reach
many places in the city.

To register your team/boat at the FISA desk during the FISA Registration period.

To purchase lunch tickets for the 2 WRCC2017 restaurants, The Rowing Corner and Le
Leman Club House, any time during the day (refer to The Sport Village description)

To request any information about WRCC2017, to find solutions to any issue and to ask
any question to the Tourism Office of Thonon, also located in the AIC.
WRCC2017 Thonon-les-Bains
Page 8

The AIC will open from Tuesday 10 October at 12am up to Saturday 14 October at 6pm.

Tuesday 10 October from 12am to 6pm

Wednesday 11 October from 9am to 6pm
Thursday 12 October from 8am to 6pm
Friday 13 October from 9am to 6pm
Saturday 14 October from 9am to 6pm

Accreditations will be given during this period.

Important remarks on Accreditation

All members of the crews have been registered by FISA and their badges/passes will be
ready at the AIC. During the Accreditation process, you will be asked to provide the Captain
names: a specific red sticker will be placed on their badge/pass in order to enter the
Captain’s Meeting, organised by FISA on Wednesday 12 October at 11am. Only Captains
will be allowed to attend the meeting.

The AIC has sent messages to the different Federations in order to gather the non-rower
team members (coaches, managers …) in order to prepare their badges/passes before the
event.

If not yet given and in order to speed up the process, please send the list of your non-rower
team members to:

info@avironthonon.com

To get access to the Sport Village and all its facilities, it is mandatory to wear your
badge/pass: within the Sport Village, some areas have limited access, mentioned by a letter
on your badge/pass.

Important remark on FISA Registration

Getting an accreditation does not mean to be registered by FISA. The Crew Registration will
start on Thursday 12 October from 9am (the Provisional Program indicates from 9 to 11am
but FISA may allow registration after 11am).

Be sure to be registered by FISA on site !!!

BOAT POOL RENTAL

The boat pool rental process has been opened for months now: the Organising Committee
selected Filippi Boats to be in charge to manage the 48 boats to be rented during
WRCC2017 (16 of each category, C1x, C2x and C4x+). For information, the selection
process has been opened to any company, alone or within a consortium. The best proposal
has been chosen.

The Filippi boat stand is located in the Sport Village and more precisely, in the Boat
Park, not far from the AIC.

ACCOMODATION INFORMATION

THE SPORT VILLAGE

The design of the Sport Village has been thought for…rowers ! The Sport Village is made of
2 parts: the Boat Park and the Sport Area.

What is proposed in the Sport Area?

Beside all FISA activities (controls, jury, umpires, offices …), you will find dedicated tents for:

• Preparation and Rest Area: a large space with ergometers, bicycles and
physiotherapists (volunteers from the OC, free of charge),

• 2 restaurants : The Rowing Corner restaurant, a large area with every day a lunch
adapted to rowers, and Le Leman Club House, with its famous terrace, for more
sophisticated menus,

• Storage and Cloakrooms Area: a dedicated tent to store your bags/clothes when
racing.

Food & Drink at WRCC2017

The site offers 4 different places:

• 2 restaurants: The Rowing Corner and Le Leman Club House,

• 2 bars: the Blue Pub for drinks and light dishes & the Yellow Bar for drinks.
The bars are out of the Sport Village and open to all public as shown below.
WRCC2017 Thonon-les-Bains

The Rowing Corner

Lunch tickets are on sale every day at the Accreditation-Information Centre (tickets
can be used any day). Payments with Credit Cards are welcomed.

Le Leman Club House

A second restaurant is available in the Sport Village. A pleasant

place to have lunch either inside or at the terrace on the harbour
and the lake ! Every day meal is different.

Le Leman Club House is also the VIP area for your guests.

Lunch tickets are on sale every day at the AIC (Credit Cards
welcomed)
(3-course menu, including wine, water and coffee, for 30 €.

The Blue Pub and the Yellow Bar

Blue and Yellow are the colours of the Chablais

Aviron Thonon (CAT), the local rowing club.

The two places are also open to the public: get

different drinks and some food (at the Blue Pub only)
and meet your fans!

In order to bring souvenirs of WRCC2017 back home

and to manage waste on site, you will have the
opportunity to purchase eco-cups: these plastic
glasses, with 2 different sizes and design, will be
used to serve drinks at the Blue Pub and Yellow Bar.

Each eco-cup is a multiple use glass sold 1 €…and

they are great !!

Bring some at home and remember you have been at

Cocktail and Medal Ceremony at Espace Tully

WRCC2017 Cocktail
The Organising Committee is inviting everyone holding an official badge/pass to the Espace
Tully (see map on next page) on Saturday 14 October for the WRCC2017 Cocktail, at
7:00pm. The WRCC2017 Cocktail (free) will be held in the Lobby of the Espace Tully.

Medallists will be invited in a separate room to prepare the Medal Ceremony: Medallists are
expected to wear a matching club uniform for the Ceremony.

The Medal Ceremony

The official Medal Ceremony will start at 7:45pm in the Main Room of Espace Tully.

WRCC2017 Party and Gala Dinner

After the Medal Ceremony, two events will take place in Espace Tully.

live for everyone to dance (free). Drinks and food (different possibilities at different prices)
could then be purchased at Le WRCC2017 Bar.

Meanwhile, for people having reserved and purchased specific tickets at AIC during the
event, a Gala Dinner will be served in a separate room, next to the Main room. 300 tickets
will be proposed at 35 €: one buffet will allow to choose between different prepared fishes
from Lake Leman, local meats and salads, a second buffet is devoted to desserts (local
wines and water will be served). It will be easily possible to take benefit of the WRCC2017
Party in the Main Room and come back to the Gala Dinner.

Do not forget to reserve your Gala Dinner ticket at AIC

(300 seats available) for 35 € each *

As far as the WRCC2017 Cocktail and the access to the WRCC2017 Party are free of
charge, no reservation needed. Food and beverages can be directly purchased at Le
WRCC2017 Bar in the Main Room of Espace Tully !!

THE COURSES

4000 meter course

Qualification Races, Heats and Finals B will be on 4000 metres, as shown below.

As you can see, the proposed course has been designed in order to:

• be technically interesting, with long lines mixed with a finish where the good regatta
crews can be creative,
• give a global view to the public who will be installed from the harbour (Sport Village,
bottom left of the picture) to the swimming pools (the blue rectangles on the right),
• put the rowers and the public in the same environment to race for the finish lane: be
ready to have your fans next to you for the last part. Be careful, you will feel as in a
stadium !
WRCC2017 Thonon-les-Bains
Page 18

6000 metre course

The Finals A will be on 6000 metres, as shown below.

The same principles have been kept to design the 6000 metre course.

The stadium fever will be even higher: these are the Finals A for the World title !!
