The provided line graph affords a glimpse of UK’s inward and outward flows of tourism in
twenty-year’s time, commencing from 1979. The bar chart, on the other hand, gives an
insight into the most appealing destinations in the opinion of UK visitors in 1999.
Overall, there was an increase in the number of foreign visits made by UK residents
throughout the years. In addition, France stood out as the most visited country by UK tourists
in the year 1999.
A more detailed look at the line graph reveals that the visits to and fro UK both possessed a
nearly similar number of approximately 10 million in 1979. However, the two flows started
to diverge over the following decades to the extent that in 1999, the visits made by UK
inhabitants culminated at a whopping 50 million. On the other hand, the figure for foreign
travellers to the UK only enjoyed a slight increment to 30 million at the end of the surveyed
period.
Regarding the second chart, it is apparent that France was the most captivating nation for UK
residents, with over 10 million visits in 1999. Similarly, Spain was the second-most appealing
destination preference of UK holidaymakers, attracting roughly 9 million visitors. However,
the other popular countries cited by UK tourists observed much fewer visits in the same year.
Whilst the USA was the destination of almost 5 million UK visitors, Turkey and Greece only
possessed the figures of a mere 3 and 2.5 million, respectively.
