 You will be developing these rules for multiples of 2 to 10
(except 4,7,8).

1. Determine the divisibility rule for multiples of 2.

a) Write down some small numbers (up to 30) that are multiples of 2 and
study the numbers to find a pattern. ( 1 Mark)
2 ,4 ,6,8,10 .12 .14 , 16,18,20,22,24,26,28,30

b) Describe these patterns and generalize the divisibility rule for 2. (2 marks)

All multiples of 2 have a pattern of 2, 4, 6, 8, or 0 in the ones place.

X* 2
THE PATTERN TO MULTIPLAY BY 2

c) Test your rule with larger numbers (four digits and five digits) to see if it
holds. (2 marks)

X*2

6666
6666*2=13.332

2. Determine the divisibility rule for multiples of 5 and 10.

a) Write down some small numbers that are multiples of 5. Study the
numbers, find a pattern. ( 3 Mark)

5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55,60

b) Repeat these steps for multiples of 10. ( 3 Mark)

10,20,30,40,50,60

3. Determine the divisibility rule for multiples of 3 and 9.

a) Write down some small numbers (up to three digits) that are multiples
of 3. Study the numbers, find a pattern ( 3 Mark)

Multiples of 3 have a pattern of 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0 in the ones place.

Every other multiple of 3 is even.
333 , 249 , 285

b) Repeat this procedure for multiples of 9. ( 3 Mark)

Multiples of 9 have a pattern of 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 in the ones place.

All multiples of 9 are one less than 10 away from each other. (So, we can add 10, subtract 1 to
find the next multiple of 9.
7668 ,1107, 306

4. Determine the divisibility rule for multiples of 6.

Write down some small numbers (up to 72) that are multiples of 6.
Study the numbers, find a pattern ( 3 Mark)

6,,12,18,24,30,36,42,48,54,60,66,72

Multiples of 6 have a pattern of 6, 2, 8, 4, 0 in the ones place.

When a multiple of 2 and 3 overlap, you get a multiple of 6.
