What is the defense man to
man with changes?
Defense man to • It is a defense in which players depending on a series of
parameters sometimes perform man to man marking and
man with changes other times perform zonal marking. It is a defense that
requires a lot of work and synchronization to be effective.
What are these parameters?
These parameters can be given by:
Defense man to ü Auditory stimulation (Verbal communication)
ü Visual stimulation (Non-verbal communication)

man with changes Which can be:

• Press to the ball.
• Depending on where the opponent´s movements are
produced, cut inside.

EXERCISES
3 vs 3

WE NEED: 2 teams of 4 players (3 players + Goalkeeper)

DEVELOPMENT: A set of 3vs3 is developed, in this case in the finishing area (28x20m can also be used or also in
the middle of the field, depending on the physical objective we are looking for). Normally, if we want to give
intensity to the exercise, there will be no throw-ins or corner kicks, so the goalkeeper can quickly put the ball in
play, which in normal conditions would be a corner or a throw-in.

OBJECTIVES: Progressive work of the pressure (pressure to the ball and achieve the changes of mark between
the first and second line).
4 vs 4 IN HALF FIELD. IF THE OPONENT PASSES THE MIDDLE FIELD 4 vs 3.

WE NEED: 2 teams of 5 players.

DEVELOPMENT: normal game 4vs4 at 40x20m with the only exception that if the team that has
the ball manages to cross to the opposite field, the defending team loses a player who can not
defend in their own field, so the attacking team gets a superiority 4vs3. This player may cross the
midfield line when the team retrieves the ball. When the other team retrieves the ball the same
situation occurs.

OBJECTIVES: Work to improve the pressure (pressure on the ball). I work to improve the pressure
output. I work for the improvement of the 4vs3 attack.
5 vs 5: 3 PLAYERS DEFEND 4

WE NEED: 2 teams of 5 players (4 players + goalkeeper)

DEVELOPMENT: the team that has possession of the ball, comes out of pressure with 4 players
and the defending player only does it with 3. At the moment in which the defending team
recovers the ball, the player of this team that was out of the field Unites and the team that lost
possession of the ball, also loses a player for the defense.

OBJECTIVES: Work to improve pressure (pressure on the ball and dominate the spaces). I work to
improve the attack. I work for the improvement of the 4vs3 defense.
