Prewriting is the first stage during which the writer needs to consider three main factors:

topic, audience, and purpose.

The main purpose of prewriting activities is to find the focus of the paper. Focus is the

point on which all energy is concentrated. If the topic is too broad, the paper will be

vague, superficial, and likely disorganized. To determine if the topic is limited enough,

consider the audience. You may want to take a general approach if your audience does

not have specific knowledge of the subject. You are also limited by our own knowledge

of the subject. You cannot be specific about something you know little about. Of course,

research will give you needed information about a topic.

Once you have chosen your topic, you should use these prewriting techniques:

Writing

Writing is a complex combination of skills that is best taught by breaking down the

process. The writing process involves a series of steps to follow to produce a finished

piece of writing.
Stages of the Writing Process

Prewriting: This is the planning phase of the writing process, when students

brainstorm, research, gather and outline ideas, often using diagrams for mapping out

their thoughts.

Drafting: Students create their initial composition by writing down all their ideas in an

organized way to convey a particular idea or present an argument.

Revising: Students review, modify, and reorganize their work by rearranging, adding,

or deleting content, and by making the tone, style, and content appropriate for the

intended audience.

Editing:  writers proofread and correct errors in grammar and mechanics, and edit to

improve style and clarity.

Publishing: the final writing is shared with the group.

Why is important?

The writing process mirrors the way proficient writers write. In using the writing

process, your students will be able to break writing into manageable chunks and focus

on producing quality material.

In conclusion, the writing process is very important because it helps us develop writing

skills and allows us to express ourselves correctly, punctually and directly; making clear

the message we want to share.

it is a process of organizing ideas and creativity through text. The focus of process

writing is on process, not on the end-product. It breaks the act of writing into

manageable steps that can be taken over a period of time, rather than all at once.
