Boiler Surveys and
Inspection
Our team of highly qualified and
experienced personnel offer a complete
comprehensive worldwide inspection and
reporting service for industrial and marine
boiler plants, turbines, steam chests and
valves using state-of-the-art inspection
equipment and procedures.
Fibre Optic Inspections
Apart from normal visual inspection,
internal tube inspections are carried put
using fibre optic equipment, which is
fitted with a video copy processor capable
of recording and printing any frame
displayed on the screen.
NDT Procedures
The inspection process can include

Modelling

of major changes in the heating surface
or boiler geometry can be assessed in a
matter of minutes, making our equipment

We are specialist boiler designers,
manufacturers and problem solvers. Our
team has built and designed boilers for
some of the largest boiler companies in
the world including B&W, NEI and ICAL.
Many of the problems inherent in a boiler
plant are caused by errors of judgement
and short cuts taken in original design
of the boiler. By correctly specifying
the equipment from the outset we can
prevent such problems from occurring.
Additionally, our independent assessment
of the plant can be rectified prior to the
boiler coming on-line.

Boiler Circulation Analysis
Globally, we are the only steam engineers who can independently
assess the internal water circulation of any sub-critical boiler.
Our computer based circulation modelling facility has been
extensively field tested, with both conventional primary element
flow measurement equipment and radio active tracer techniques
carried out by the Australian Atomic Energy Commission.

The boilers and associated equipment are available either fully
assembled or in flat pack from the Harris Pye manufacturing
facilities in the UK, China, UAE, Singapore or Brazil to service the
emerging markets in these regions.

Harris Pye Steam Boilers

These boilers, which are intended primarily for use on the marine
installations, can easily be adapted and modified for use in any
number of application where there is a requirement for power
and / or process steam.

Each boiler package will be custom-designed to meet the

requirements of individual customers. We can undertake all
aspects of the design in-house. These include - but are not

Harris Pye offers comprehensive design and manufacturing
facilities for both plain tube and extended surface exhaust gas
economiser assemblies. Extended surface configurations include
single and double ‘H’ gilled, spiral wound and serrated type.
Helical Solid Fin
Helical solid fin tube is produced on state-of-the-art frequency
spiral fin tube welding machines. Tube sizes range from 25mm to
115mm OD and can be found with a range of fin heights from 10-
25mm on varying pitches. This covers virtually all configurations
found in marine service today. Spiral wound tubes greatly
increase overall heat transfer rate by increasing surface area and
evening out the heat transfer between the inside and outsides
of the tubes. This decreases the total number of tubes required,
reducing the overall equipment size and cost.
Differential Fin Pitch
The fin pitch can be reduced at localised areas along tube length
to provide load bearing / surface contact point for tube plate
supports, alleviating the need for expensive fabricated designs
or thicker tube plates.

‘H’ FIN
Pairs of parallel shaped steel fins are resistance welded to
the single pressure tube surface under carefully controlled
conditions. The purpose built welding machine ensures precision
indexing along the entire length of the tube and exact parallel
attachment.
The ‘H’ design reduces draft loss and allows straight-through flow
of gas over the unit. Both of these factors facilitate a self-cleaning
effect, which greatly reduces fouling and the potential for
damaging and sometimes catastrophic soot fires. The compact
design of these units can realise a 50% saving in space compared
to plain tube designs. This is another important consideration n
the ever increasing necessity for space and weight savings.

HP Economiser Range
The ‘HP’ Economiser range is specifically designed to recover
the waste heat in boiler exhaust gases, and to transfer as much
energy as possible to the incoming boiler feed water stream by
pre-heating the water before it enters the boiler. The design and
construction of the HP Economiser lends itself to installation
into most boiler exhaust gas outlet ducts. HP high efficiency
tube banks are purpose-designed units, constructed from
selected finned steel tubing, manufactured on Harris Pye’s own
specialised, in-house ‘Spiral’ and ‘H’ type tube finning machines.
Installation of a HP Economiser provides many advantages:

• For each percentage point efficiency the system gains,
an equivalent fuel saving is achieved. i.e. an increase in

corrosion resistant materials allowing for the highest possible

The full range design service includes initial survey; production
of drawings for Class approval by way of a full CAD system; and
preparation of a full scope of work and specification of materials.
The design, supply and installation process is carried out in full
accordance with Harris Pye’s ISO 9001 Quality Assurance system.
This system ensures full traceability of all aspects of a particular
project.

Pipework Services

Harris Pye offers full pipework system design and installation

service. We offer pipework systems for high pressure pipe lines,
cooling water, hydraulic control systems, fire fighting systems,
etc. in a wide range of specialists materials such as:

Pipe stress
Analysis
Harris Pye is capable of performing stress analysis on
interconnecting piping systems. We offer static and modal
analysis at the design stage of piping systems, as well as static
and dynamic analysis of existing systems.
• Analyse systems to various stress codes including
B31.1, B31.3, EN13480
• Define the placement and required pipe support
types in a system
• Assess existing systems which show evidence of
excessive dynamic loading (field data required)
Our Experience in carbon, stainless and more exotic duplex
materials means that all requirements can be met locally.
This reduces the time needed to put the equipment to work
for meeting production targets. Full materials and equipment
selection is also available, and we will cooperate with specified
sub suppliers if applicable.
Skid
Manufacture
Harris Pye has built a solid reputation for both engineering
design and the manufacture of various skid mounted equipment
for offshore and onshore hydrocarbon recovery and treatment
applications.
Pumping, cooling, water treatment, RO and steam injection
for recovery are all applications where Harris Pye has supplied
multiple clients with batches of skids. The Group has all the
engineering disciplines are available in-house to complete the
mechanical, electrical and instrumentation requirements of the
skid.
The skids are manufactured in one of our many global facilities,
depending on the client’s region of operation and if required
they can be installed and commissioned.

Instrumentation Services
Harris Pye’s Electrical and Instrumentation department has a team
of experienced engineers, with the ability to design, build, install,
commission and maintain electrical and instrumentation control
systems. We work for the marine, oil and gas, petrochemical and
power industries in the following areas:

feedwater control systems

Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG)
HRSGs are used for recovering waste heat from exhaust gas
produced by gas turbines in boilers and refinery operations.

This wasted heat, usually vented to the atmosphere, can be
turned into steam and used to greatly reduce operational energy
costs. HRSGs are individually designed using our in-house
propriety software, tailored to each specific application, and can
be retrofitted to existing plant in most cases.
Harris Pye has designed, manufactured and installed many
HRSG’s. With the centre of our engineering excellence being in
Dubai, our skilled engineers have global access for individual
applications. The units are then manufactured at one of the
Group’s ISO and ASME accredited workshops.
Our complete in-house capability means that clients from
all industries can contract with a single supplier for design,
manufacture, installation and commissioning.
Process Heaters
Harris Pye regularly undertakes inspections and evaluations
of process heaters around the globe. Accurate independent
measurements and analysis by thermal engineers provides an
assessment of plant operation and efficiency. This information
is then used to suggest various improvements to equipment
and operation procedures. We design, manufacture , install and
commission complete process heating solutions of any scale, to
satisfy of any scale, to satisfy your specific requirements.
