Welcome and Announcements

*Call to Worship (Psalm 100: 1 – 5)

1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into God’s presence with singing!
3 Know that the Lord, the Lord is God!
It is God who made us, and we are God’s;
We are God’s people and the sheep of God’s pasture.
4 Enter God’s gates with thanksgiving, and God’s courts with praise!
Give thanks to God; bless God’s name!
5 For the Lord is good;
God’s steadfast love endures forever,
And God’s faithfulness to all generations.

*Invocation
Gracious God, you have promised that if we draw near to you, you will draw near to us. In this time, prepare our hearts and
minds that we might receive your wisdom and understanding. Relieve our bodies and souls from all the desires and cravings
shaped by this world, that we might be filled with your peace. Pour out your Spirit upon us, that our worship might be joyful
and authentic, bearing good fruit in our lives with our neighbors. In the name of Jesus Christ, risen Savior, we pray. Amen.

*Hymn The God of Abraham Praise Hymnal #49

Call to Confession
As we come to this place of prayer, let us come with open minds, willing to honestly confront our shortcomings and with open
hearts ready to receive God's forgiveness.

Prayer of Confession
Giver of all good things, we praise your name this day! You have given us all that we need, and we are a thankful people. We
are mindful, too, that we continue to grasp for more and more - because this is the definition of success in our world. We pray
for each of us, because we do not allow enough of you in our lives. May we learn simplicity and the freedom that simple living
brings. May we not be tied to our belongings, but live in the joy of giving so that others might have enough. Help us to see
beyond ourselves and our resentments to find you; for in finding you, we become new persons, knowing that we have all that
we need. Teach us stewardship of our earth, our money, our possessions, we pray, so that we might become open to a path
closer to your heart. Amen.

Silent Confession

Words of Assurance
Friends, hear and believe the good news - in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God. Amen! Amen.

*Response: Surely It Is God Who Saves Me Hymnal # 71

Surely it is God who saves me; I will trust and not be afraid.
For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure defense, and God will be my Savior.

WORD
Prayer for Illumination
O God, we quiet our hearts and minds. We do not know what words you will speak to us today, but we open ourselves to receive
your truth. We want to hear your Word, to know you more and to receive your love and to respond in faith. Change us because
we have been in your presence.
Amen.

First Reading: Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14

7:9 As I watched, thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne, his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of
his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire.
7:10 A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten
thousand stood attending him. The court sat in judgment, and the books were opened.
7:13 As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the
Ancient One and was presented before him.
7:14 To him was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion
is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed.

Second Reading Psalm 93

93:1 The Lord is king, God is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed, God is girded with strength. God has established the world; it
shall never be moved;
93:2 Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting.
93:3 The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring.
93:4 More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters, more majestic than the waves of the sea, majestic on high is the
Lord!
93:5 Your decrees are very sure; holiness befits Your house, O Lord, forevermore.

Gospel Reading John 18:33-37

18:33 Then Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?"
18:34 Jesus answered, "Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me?"
18:35 Pilate replied, "I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you
done?"
18:36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting
to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here."
18:37 Pilate asked him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came
into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice."
The Gospel of the Lord
Praise to you, O Christ.

*Affirmation of Faith: The Theological Declaration of Barmen (edited)

1. Jesus Christ, as he is attested for us in Holy Scripture, is the one Word of God which we have to hear and which we have to
trust and obey in life and in death. We reject the false doctrine, as though the church could and would have to acknowledge as
a source of its proclamation, apart from and besides this one Word of God, still other events and powers, figures and truths,
as God’s revelation.
2. As Jesus Christ is God’s assurance of the forgiveness of all our sins, so in the same way and with the same seriousness is he
also God’s mighty claim upon our whole life. Through him befalls us a joyful deliverance from the godless fetters of this world for
a free, grateful service to his creatures. We reject the false doctrine, as though there were areas of our life in which we would
not belong to Jesus Christ, but to other lords—areas in which we would not need justification and sanctification through him.
3. The Christian Church is the congregation of the brethren in which Jesus Christ acts presently as the Lord in Word and
Sacrament through the Holy Spirit. As the church of pardoned sinners, it has to testify in the midst of a sinful world, with its faith
as with its obedience, with its message as with its order, that it is solely his property, and that it lives and wants to live solely
from his comfort and from his direction in the expectation of his appearance. We reject the false doctrine, as though the church
were permitted to abandon the form of its message and order to its own pleasure or to changes in prevailing ideological and
political convictions.

COMMUNION

Invitation
Beloved in the Lord, hear what gracious words our Savior says to all who truly turn to him: Come to me, all you who labor and
are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you
shall find rest unto your souls. I am the bread of life; you who come to me shall never hunger, and you who believe on me shall
never thirst. You who come to me I will in no wise cast out. Blessed are those who do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for
they shall be filled.

WORDS OF THE INSTITUTION

Hear the words of the institution of the Holy Supper of our Lord Jesus Christ, as they are delivered by the Apostle Paul: I received
of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the The Lord Jesus, on the night of his arrest, took bread, and after giving
thanks to God,
he broke it, and said, “Take, eat. This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
In the same way he took the cup, saying: “This cup is the new covenant sealed in my blood, do this, as often as you drink it, in
remembrance of me.” Every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the saving death of the risen Lord, until he
comes.

Prayer Of Consecration

The Bread and The Cup

THE BREAD Take and eat: this is the body of Christ which is broken for you. Do this in remembrance of him.

THE CUP “This cup is the new covenant in the blood of Christ, which is shed for the remission of sins. Do this, as often as
you drink it, in remembrance of him.
(Please discard used communion cups in the available receptacles)
