Welcome to Firelands Church, a community of believers gathered by the Holy Spirit and committed to serving God and growing
together in Jesus Christ.
We invite all of our worshippers to stay for fellowship following the service
so that we might become better acquainted.

THE ORDER OF THE LITURGY

*Those who are able are invited to stand.

GATHERING

Prelude Children of the Heavenly Father. Traditional/Page

Welcome and Announcements

*Call to Worship (Women, Men, Everyone)

This is the day, This is the day, that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made;
We will rejoice, we will rejoice, and be glad in it, and be glad in it.
This is the day that the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made.

*Invocation
Lord, help us to be wise in our walk with you, and with one another. Help us, we pray, to understand your will for our church.
We can be impulsive, so temper our enthusiasm with Your Holy Spirit as we “address one another in psalms and hymns and
spiritual songs, singing and making melody to You with Your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Amen. (Eph 5: 15 - 21
paraphrase)

*Hymn Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore #721 (1,3)

1) Lord, you have come to the lakeshore looking neither for wealthy nor wise ones;
You only asked me to follow humbly.
Refrain O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me,
and while smiling have spoken my name;
Now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me.
By your side, I will seek other seas.
3) You need my hands, full of caring, through my labors to give others rest
And constant love that keeps on loving.
Refrain

Call to Confession
Dear Friends in Christ, here in the presence of Almighty God, and with penitent and obedient hearts, we confess our sins, so that
we may obtain forgiveness by his infinite goodness and mercy.
Prayer of Confession Just a Closer Walk with Thee #835
Refrain Just a closer walk with thee, grant it Jesus, is my plea,
daily walking close to thee: let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
1) I am weak, but thou art strong; Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I’ll be satisfied as long as I walk, let me walk close to thee
Refrain
2) Through this world of toil and snares, if I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares? None but thee, dear Lord, none but thee.
Refrain

Silent Confession

Words of Assurance Amazing Grace #649

1) Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.

WORD
Prayer for Illumination
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your Holy Name; through Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.

First Reading: Psalm 23, read responsively

The King of Love My Shepherd Is #802

The King of love my shepherd is, whose goodness faitheth never;

I nothing lack if I am his and he is mine forever.
Where streams of living water flow my ransomed soul he leadeth,
And when the verdant pastures grow, with food celestial feedeth.
Perverse and foolish oft I strayed, but yet in love he sought me,
And on his shoulder gently laid, and home, rejoicing, brought me.
In death’s dark vale I fear no ill with thee, dear Lord, bedside me;
Thy rod and staff my comfort still, thy cross before to guide me.
Thou spread’st a table in my sight; thy unction grace bestoweth;
And O what transport of delight from thy pure chalice floweth!
And so through all the length of days thy goodness failest never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise within thy house forever.
God of mercy and might, all creation exists and is sustained by Your righteous rule. Govern our lives by your powerful and
gracious Spirit, that we may reflect the glory of your righteousness which we have seen in Jesus Christ, Savior of the world.
Amen.

Second Reading : Zephaniah 3: 17 & Exodus 15: 1 - 8

Zephaniah 3: 17
The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; God will rejoice over you with gladness; God will quiet you by his
love; God will exult over you with loud singing.

Exodus 15:1-8 1 Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying, "I will sing to the Lord, for he has
triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea. 2 The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has
become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him.
3 The Lord is a man of war; the Lord is his name. 4 "Pharaoh's chariots and his host God cast into the sea, and his chosen officers
were sunk in the Red Sea. 5 The floods covered them; they went down into the depths like a stone. 6 Your right hand, O Lord,
glorious in power, your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy. 7 In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your
adversaries; you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble. 8 At the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up; the floods
stood up in a heap; the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea.
The Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God.

*Affirmation of Faith: What a Friend We Have in Jesus Hymnal #465

1) What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit; O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

2) Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer!

3) Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge; take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he’ll take and shield thee; thou wilt find a solace there.

*Hymn I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry Hymnal #488

1) I was there to hear your borning cry; I’ll be there when you are old.
I rejoiced the day you were baptized to see your life unfold.
I was there when you were but a child with a faith that suit you well;
In a blaze of light you wandered off to fin where demons dwell.

2) When you heard the wonder of the Word, I was there to cheer you on.
You were raised to praise the living Lord to whom you now belong.
If you find someone to share your time and you join hearts as one,
I’ll be there to make your verses rhyme from dusk till rising sun.

*Charge
Go out into the world in peace; have courage; hold onto what is good; return no one evil for evil; support the weak; help the
suffering; honor all people; love and serve the Lord, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.

*Benediction
May God’s peace, which is far beyond our understanding, keep us safe in union with Christ Jesus. Amen. (Phil 4: 7)

*Benediction Response I Danced in the Morning Hymnal #157

1) I danced in the morning when the world was begun,

and I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun,
And I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth.
At Bethlehem I had my birth.

Refrain Dance, then, wherever you may be; I am the Lord of the Dance, said he;
And I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be,
and I’ll lead you all in the dance, said he.
