People: May God continue to bless our country and all the countries in the world.
Pastor: We seek to live in harmony with all peoples on the earth.
People: May God continue to establish peace on earth,

Pastor: Come, let us worship our Lord!

* OPENING HYMN 698 God of the Ages NATIONAL HYMN

1. God of the ages, whose almighty hand
leads forth in beauty all the starry band
of shining worlds in splendor through the skies,
our grateful songs before thy thrones arise.
2. Thy love divine hath led us in the past;
in this free land with thee our lot is cast;
be thou our ruler, guardian, guide, and stay,
thy Word our law, thy paths our chosen way.
3. From war’s alarms, from deadly pestilence,
be thy strong arm our ever sure defense;
thy true religion in our hearts increase;
thy bounteous goodness nourish us in peace.
4. Refresh thy people on their toilsome way;
lead us from night to neverending day;
fill all our lives with love and grace divine,
and glory, laud, and praise be ever thine.

* SCRIPTURE LESSON Psalm 130

Pastor: Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.
People: Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!
Pastor: If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?
People: But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered.
Pastor: I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope;
People: my soul waits for the Lord,
more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.
Pastor: O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is great power to redeem.
People: It is he who will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
Pastor: This is the Word of God for the people of God.
People: Thanks be to God.

HOPE

CALL TO CONFESSION Dr. Frode Gundersen

Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him,
who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another.
Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND PARDON

Lord Jesus Christ, you are the way to peace. Come into the brokenness of our lives
and our land with your healing love. Help us to be willing to bow before you in true
repentence and to bow to one another in real forgiveness. By the fire of your Holy Spirit,
melt our hard hearts and consume the pride and prejudice that seperate us. Fill us, O Lord,
with your perfect love, which casts out our fear. And bind us together in the unity that you
share with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

GIVING OF OUR TITHES AND OFFERING

Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him, all creatures here below.
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

* GREAT THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
The pastor gives thanks, remembering God’s acts of salvation, and concludes:
And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven,
We praise your name and join their unending hymn:

The pastor continues the thanksgiving and concludes:

And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ,
we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice,
in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith:
The pastor invokes the present work of the Holy Spirit and then praises the Trinity, concluding:
All honor is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever:

RECEIVING PRAYER & INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP

* CLOSING HYMN 717 The Battle Hymn of the Republic BATTLE HYMN
1. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
he is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
he hath loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword;
his truth is marching on.
(Refrain)
Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on.
2. I have seen him in the watchfires of a hundred circling camps,
they have builded him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read his righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
his day is marching on. (Refrain)
3. He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
he is sifting out the hearts of men before his judgement seat;
O be swift, my soul, to answer him; be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on. (Refrain)
