CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: The love of God has been poured into our hearts
through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us;
People: we dwell in him and he in us.
Leader: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his name;
People: make known his deeds among the peoples.
Leader: Sing to him, sing praises to him,
People: and speak of all his marvelous works.
Leader: Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
People: who was, and is, and is to come!

* OPENING HYMN 539 O Spirit of the Living God FOREST GREEN

1. O Spirit of the living God, thou light and fire divine,
descend upon thy church once more, and make it truly thine.
Fill it with love and joy and power, with righteousness and peace;
till Christ shall dwell in human hearts, and sin and sorrow cease.
2. Blow, wind of God! With wisdom blow until our minds are free
from mists of error, clouds of doubt, which blind our eyes to thee.
Burn, winged fire! Inspire our lips with flaming love and zeal,
to preach to all thy great good news, God’s glorious commonweal.
3. So shall we know the power of Christ who came this world to save;
so shall we rise with him to life which soars beyond the grave;
and earth shall win true holiness, which makes thy children whole;
till, perfected by thee, we reach creation’s glorious goal!

* AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (The Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

* GLORIA PATRI 70 MEINEKE

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen. Amen.

CALL TO PRAYER Rev. Greg Gibson

The Spirit of the Lord fills the world and knows our every word and deed.
Let us then open ourselves up to the Lord and go to him in penitence and faith,
as we pray together.
CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER
Generous God, you send us the Spirit of courage, but we have been afraid.
You send us the Spirit of truth, but we cling to our own illusions.
You send us the Spirit of healing, but we cannot let go of our hurts.
Holy Spirit of forgiveness, come to us again: shake our hearts,
set our souls on fire with your love, send us out into the world rejoicing in your power.
We hold out to you all of our particular burdens of worries and guilt,
and we ask your help to live the way of your justice and love. Amen.

PASTORAL PRAYER

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

* HYMN 347 Spirit Song SPIRIT SONG

1. O let the Son of God enfold you with his Spirit and his love.
Let him fill your heart and satisfy your soul.
O let him have the things that hold you, and his Spirit like a dove
will descend upon your life and make you whole.
Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill your lambs.
Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill your lambs.
2. O come and sing this song with gladness as your hearts are filled with joy.
Lift your hands in sweet surrender to his name.
O give him all your tears and sadness; give him all your years of pain,
and you’ll enter into life in Jesus’ name.
Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill your lambs.
Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill your lambs.

* SCRIPTURE LESSON John 16:4-15

This is the Word of God for the people of God.

RECEIVE

* HYMN 127 Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah CWM RHONDDA

1. Guide me, O thou great Jehovah pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but thou art mighty; hold me with thy powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more;
feed me till I want no more.
2. Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fire and cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through.
Strong deliverer, strong deliverer, be thou still my strength and shield;
be thou still my strength and shield.
3. When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside;
death of death and hell's destruction, land me safe on Canaan's side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises, I will ever give to thee;
I will ever give to thee.

PENTECOST
Pentecost Sunday commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and other disciples
following the Crucifixion, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus Christ (Acts 2). The season of Pentecost
marks the beginning of the Christian church's mission to the world.

MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT
The class of 2021 has finally graduated and is looking forward to the next chapter of life. Each of them has
brought a unique gift to Central and our body of Christ. And the Central family has helped steward these
gifts through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Together, our seniors and all who have walked alongside
them in their faith journey, have grown more and more into becoming like Christ. Thank you
to everyone at Central who has contributed to these seniors in their path to become followers of Jesus.
