CHIMING OF THE HOUR

GREETING Dr. Jan Davis

OPENING VOLUNTARY When I Survey the Wondrous Cross arr. Linda McKechnie
(with Bach’s Air on the G String)
Scott Montgomery, organist & Frode Gundersen, piano

* CALL TO WORSHIP Dr. Steve Pulliam

Pastor: Let us worship God, for whom our souls thirst and our bodies long.
People: Listen, listen to me, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.
Pastor: We have come to hear the Word God has sent.
People: God’s Word will not return empty,
but will accomplish through us his holy purpose.
Pastor: Let us worship God in spirit and in truth.
All: Then we will go out with joy and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and the hills will sing;
the trees of the field will clap their hands.

* OPENING HYMN 173 Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies RATISBON
1. Christ, whose glory fills the skies, Christ, the true, the only light,
Sun of Righteousness, arise, triumph o'er the shades of night;
Dayspring from on high, be near; Daystar, in my heart appear.
2. Dark and cheerless is the morn unaccompanied by thee;
joyless is the day's return, till thy mercy's beams I see;
till they inward light impart, cheer my eyes and warm my heart.
3. Visit then this soul of mine; pierce the gloom of sin and grief;
fill me, Radiancy divine, scatter all my unbelief;
more and more thyself display, shining to the perfect day.

* AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (The Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

* GLORIA PATRI 70 MEINEKE

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen. Amen.

CALL TO CONFESSION Dr. Steve Pulliam

By Christ’s power our old selves are crucified, put to death,
and buried with him, so that desires of this world may no longer rule us,
but that instead we may offer ourselves as a sacrifice of gratitude to him.
In humility and faith let us go God in prayer.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, we are your covenant people –
one church, drawn from all nations. Our citizenship is in heaven.
Yet we confess, Lord, that we sometimes lose sight of your kingdom and its ways.
We confess that we live more as citizens of our own country than as citizens
of your kingdom. By your truth you call all people into obedience.
Forgive us for losing our way. Focus us on the cross and on the salvation
you give through him, who is the Lord and King and Judge of all,
Jesus, the Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.

PASTORAL PRAYER

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT
We are blessed to be able to partner with Micah 6:8, which is a ministry for men moving from addiction recovery into
a self-sustaining life in Christ through discipleship, supportive housing, community engagement, and church
participation. The Micah 6:8 House is located adjacent to our Genesis Church campus and the men living in the house
can often be seen volunteering at Genesis Church, the Dickson Street campus, and around the community. This is an
outstanding local ministry that is making a difference in our world. Central’s Easter Offering is being received to
resource this ministry. Thank you for generously supporting all that God is doing through the mission and ministry of
our church.
