GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

Opening Prayer
Call to Worship
One: The Lord has said, “Zion is my resting place forever; for I have desired it.
All: “I will abundantly bless its provisions; I will satisfy its poor with bread.
One: “Its priests I will clothe with salvation, and its faithful will shout for joy.
All: “There I will cause a horn to sprout up for David, a lamp for my anointed
one.”
One: Let us worship God!

Hymn
Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.
Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore thee,
casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.
Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide thee,
though the eye of sinfulness thy glory may not see,
only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,
perfect in power, in love and purity.

2
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth and sky and sea.
Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!
Prayer of Confession
O God of mercy, woe be upon us, for we do not obey you. We confess one
baptism, yet we foster divisions in Christ’s body. We observe the Lord’s Supper
but work not for Christ’s peace. We confess our reluctance to extend your favor
to those we don’t like. Forgive and restore us for the sake of your Son, Jesus
Christ. You are a God of dominion; we live by your grace alone.

Silent Confession
Assurance of Pardon
One: We are told in Scripture that the days are coming when God will raise up a
righteous Branch, who shall reign and deal wisely, who shall execute justice
and righteousness in the land. We believe that Christ has come and performed
all that was foretold by the prophets. I can assure you that in Jesus Christ we
are forgiven.
All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God!

PROCLAIMING THE WORD

Prayer of Illumination
Reading from the Psalms
Revelation 1:4b-8
Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from
the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful
witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who
loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and made us to be a kingdom,
priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever.
Amen. 7 Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye will see him, even those who
pierced him; and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail. So it is to be. Amen.

Reading from the Gospel

John 18:33-38
Then Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, “Are
you the King of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered, “Do you ask this on your own, or did
others tell you about me?” 35 Pilate replied, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation
and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done?” 36 Jesus
answered, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my
followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it
is, my kingdom is not from here.” 37 Pilate asked him, “So you are a king?” Jesus
answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the
world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” 38
Pilate asked him, “What is truth?”

Sermon Rev. John Scott

“Thanks - Living”
RESPONDING TO THE WORD
Affirmation of Faith Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of
all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, eternally
begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
4
begotten, not made, of one being with the Father; through him all things were
made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of
the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was
crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the Third
day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge
the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy
Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who
with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken
through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We
acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the
resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. AMEN.

Prayer after Communion

GOING OUT INTO THE WORLD

Hymn
Come, Thou Almighty King
Come, thou almighty King, help us thy name to sing;
help us to praise: Father, all glorious, o’er all victorious,
come, and reign over us, Ancient of Days.
Come, thou incarnate Word, merciful, mighty Lord,
our prayer attend. Come, and thy people bless, and give thy word success;
Spirit of holiness, on us descend.
Come, holy Comforter, thy sacred witness bear
in this glad hour. Thou who almighty art, now rule in every heart,
and ne’er from us depart, Spirit of power.
To thee, great One in Three, eternal praises be,
hence evermore! Thy sovereign majesty may we in glory see,
and to eternity love and adore.
Benediction

Blessings Box
Did you know that one in five Floridians are presently food insecure? In the
Tampa Bay area, food insecurity has doubled since the pandemic began. The
demand on our outdoor food pantry confirms this need. Please help us keep
the pantry full as our community continues to struggle with hunger. Presently
we have a great need for Chunky Campbell soup w/ meat, canned meats
(chopped beef, pulled pork, corned beef, corned beef hash, Chef
Boyardee Spaghetti & meat balls, tuna in water, chili), boxed mac &
cheese, and other pasta noodles. Please avoid glass containers. Food
items can be dropped off on Sunday mornings prior to service and placed in
the wheeled grocery cart, at the church office any morning, Monday,
Tuesday, or Thursday, or Tuesday between 4 PM and 6 PM. Contributions to
support the Blessing Box can be donated to our “Neighborhood Food
Ministry Fund.” Thank you for your continued support as we bring hope to
our neighborhood.
