Prelude
Welcome and Announcements
One: The Peace of Christ be with You.
All: And also with You.
GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

Call to Worship
One: Say among the nations, The Lord reigns.
All: Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!
One: The Lord is coming to judge the earth.
All: God will judge the world with righteousness and the people with truth.
One: Come let us worship God in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
All: Blessing and honour, glory and power be to our God now and always.

Prayer of Adoration
God of majesty and mercy, we give you thanks and praise for your
commitment to your creation. In Christ, you have turned the world upside
down, revealing your strength through weakness, and your power through
compassion. In the cross of Christ you taught us that no hopeless situation
or frightening possibility is beyond your reach. We praise you for your
love at work around us and within us, always able to do more than we can
ask or even imagine. Receive our love and our loyalty this day, our
Sovereign and our Savior. AMEN.

*Hymn
Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Come, thou Fount of every blessing;
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above;
praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
mount of God’s unchanging love!
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
hither by thy help I’m come;
and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God;
he, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood.
O to grace how great a debtor
daily I’m constrained to be!
Let that grace now, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here’s my heart; O take and seal it;
seal it for thy courts above.

Prayer of Confession
God of wisdom and warning, we confess that we often prefer our own plans
to your purposes. We shrink from acts of service that seem too demanding.
Forgive us when our commitment wavers and we think someone else will
take up the challenges we face. Inspire us with the example of Jesus, and
energize us with your Spirit to follow him as our Shepherd wherever he
leads.
Silent Confession
Assurance of Pardon
*Affirmation of Faith 1 Corinthians 13:4-13
I believe Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or
arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or
resentful; 6 it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. 7 It
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8
Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for
tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. 9 For we
know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete
comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like
a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an
adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly,
but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know
fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love
abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

PROCLAIMING THE WORD

Prayer of Illumination
Reading from the Old Testament
Psalm 100
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. 2 Worship the Lord with gladness;
come into his presence with singing. 3 Know that the Lord is God. It is he that
made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him,
bless his name. 5 For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and
his faithfulness to all generations.
The Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version (National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, 1989)

Reading from the New Testament

Ephesians 1:15-23
I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints,
and for this reason 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you
in my prayers. 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, 18 so
that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to
which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among
the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who
believe, according to the working of his great power. 20 God put this power to
work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand
in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and
dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in
the age to come. 22 And he has put all things under his feet and has made him
the head over all things for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him
who fills all in all.
The Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version (National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, 1989)

One: This is the Word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God!

My Hope is Built on Nothing Less
My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus' name.

Refrain
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand:
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.
When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on his unchanging grace;
in every high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds within the veil.
refrain
His oath, his covenant, his blood
support me in the whelming flood;
when all around my soul gives way,
he then is all my hope and stay.
refrain
When he shall come with trumpet sound,
O may I then in him be found,
dressed in his righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before the throne.

Reading from the Gospel
Matthew 25:31-45
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he
will sit on the throne of his glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him,
and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep
from the goats, 33 and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at
the left. 34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are
blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation
of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you
gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was
naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in
prison and you visited me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when
was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you
something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and
welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we
saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ 40 And the king will answer them,
‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members
of my family, you did it to me.’ 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘You
that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and
his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you
gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me,
naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit
me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry
or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?’
45 Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of
the least of these, you did not do it to me.’

RESPONDING TO THE WORD
Hymn
Baptized in Water
Baptized in water,
sealed by the Spirit,
cleansed by the blood of Christ our King;
heirs of salvation,
trusting the promise,
faithfully now God's praises we sing.
Baptized in water,
sealed by the Spirit,
dead in the tomb with Christ our King;
one with his rising,
freed and forgiven,
thankfully now God's praises we sing.
Baptized in water,
sealed by the Spirit,
marked with the sign of Christ our King;
born of the Spirit,
we are God's children;
joyfully now God's praises we sing.

GOING OUT INTO THE WORLD

*Hymn
Child of Blessing, Child of Promise
Child of blessing, child of promise,
baptized with the Spirit's sign,
with this water God has sealed you
unto love and grace divine.
Child of love, our love's expression,
love's creation, loved indeed!
Fresh from God, refresh our spirits,
into joy and laughter lead.
Child of joy, our dearest treasure,
God's you are; from God you came.
Back to God we humbly give you:
live as one who bears Christ's name.
Child of God, your loving Parent,
learn to know whose child you are.
Grow to laugh and sing and worship,
trust and love God more than all.

B&G TASKS November 6, 2023

Underway or Completed:

1. Temp repair of the railing wall on the porch above the Thrift
store. The whole wall needs to be replaced, perhaps by just a
railing. Thank Dana and Lindy.
2. The choir transept drain is still slow, despite many attempts,
but seems to work for the dehumidifier and the A/C.
3. Adjust the sanctuary schedule to turn on A/C at 4:30 AM. The
chillers seem to come on ok, and the air handlers work so long
as each day of the week is set separately on each thermostat.
4. Secure and replace the John Deere mower left front tire.
5. Take “before” photos to be able to document damage from
storms or fire. DAH needs photos.
6. Weed rock gardens around sanctuary. Continuing. Thanks
Jeanne and Fred
7. Clear undergrowth around sanctuary chiller cage. About 1/3
done.
8. Trim the north fence line. Thanks Bill M and Pat for work
done so far.
9. Replace three compartment sink faucet. Done. Very pricey by
The Drain Team.
10. Repair cut in sidewalk outside pastor's office. Done with fence
post cement, but needs final finish.
11. Repair (again) one of the Atosa refrigerators in the kitchen:
about $550
