Prelude
Welcome and Announcements
One: The Peace of Christ be with You.
All: And also with You.
GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

Call to Worship
One: As we gather, may we open our hearts to receive newness of life.
All: We come with hope for renewal.
One: In our time of worship, may we be inspired by God’s wisdom.
All: We come seeking to learn and to draw closer to God.
One: Come, let us worship, as the beloved children of God.
*Hymn
God of Grace and God of Glory
God of grace and God of glory,
on thy people pour thy power;
crown thine ancient church's story;
bring its bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
for the facing of this hour,
for the facing of this hour.

2
Lo! the hosts of evil round us
scorn thy Christ, assail his ways!
From the fears that long have bound us
free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
for the living of these days,
for the living of these days.
Cure thy children's warring madness;
bend our pride to thy control;
shame our wanton, selfish gladness,
rich in things and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
lest we miss thy kingdom's goal,
lest we miss thy kingdom's goal.
Save us from weak resignation
to the evils we deplore.
Let the gift of thy salvation
be our glory evermore.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
serving thee whom we adore,
serving thee whom we adore.
Prayer of Confession
One: God of all life and creation. We confess the times when we fail to love our
neighbors as we love ourselves. Forgive us when we ignore or fail to see
our neighbors in need. God of love, forgive us when we reject love from
others, as we confess times when we do not tend to our own needs, and
deny ourselves of your forgiveness and grace. Lord, in your mercy, hear
our prayer.

3
All: In our confession, O God, we pray your abiding love be shown
through the ways we love more fully. AMEN.
Silent Confession
Assurance of Pardon
*Affirmation of Faith Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in
Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead,
and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the
dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the
Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the
dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion
of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life
everlasting. AMEN.

Psalm 4
Answer me when I call, O God of my right! You gave me room when I was in
distress. Be gracious to me, and hear my prayer. 2 How long, you people, shall
my honor suffer shame? How long will you love vain words, and seek after lies?
Selah 3 But know that the Lord has set apart the faithful for himself; the Lord
hears when I call to him. 4 When you are disturbed, do not sin; ponder it on your
beds, and be silent. Selah 5 Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the Lord.
6 There are many who say, “O that we might see some good! Let the light of
4
your face shine on us, O Lord!” 7 You have put gladness in my heart more than
when their grain and wine abound. 8 I will both lie down and sleep in peace; for
you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety.
The Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version (National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, 1989)

Acts 3:12-21
When Peter saw it, he addressed the people, “You Israelites, why do you wonder
at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had
made him walk? 13 The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of
Jacob, the God of our ancestors has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you
handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate, though he had decided to
release him. 14 But you rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have
a murderer given to you, 15 and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised
from the dead. To this we are witnesses. 16 And by faith in his name, his name
itself has made this man strong, whom you see and know; and the faith that is
through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. 17
“And now, friends, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. 18
In this way God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, that his
Messiah would suffer. 19 Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins
may be wiped out, 20 so that times of refreshing may come from the presence
of the Lord, and that he may send the Messiah appointed for you, that is, Jesus,
21 who must remain in heaven until the time of universal restoration that God
announced long ago through his holy prophets.

I John 3:1-7
See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God;
and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not
know him. 2 Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet
been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like
him, for we will see him as he is. 3 And all who have this hope in him purify
themselves, just as he is pure. 4 Everyone who commits sin is guilty of
5
lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that he was revealed to take away
sins, and in him there is no sin. 6 No one who abides in him sins; no one who
sins has either seen him or known him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you.
Everyone who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.

How Great Thou Art
O Lord, my God! when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed;
Refrain
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
When through the woods and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze;
refrain
And when I think that God, His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
refrain

6
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim: my God, how great Thou art!

Reading from the Gospel
Luke 24: 36b-49
While they were talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to
them, “Peace be with you.” 37 They were startled and terrified, and thought that
they were seeing a ghost. 38He said to them, “Why are you frightened, and why
do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I
myself. Touch me and see; for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you
see that I have.” 40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and
his feet. 41 While in their joy they were disbelieving and still wondering, he said
to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled
fish, 43 and he took it and ate in their presence. 44 Then he said to them, “These
are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written
about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.”
45 Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, 46 and he said to
them, “Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead
on the third day, 47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be
proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are
witnesses of these things. 49 And see, I am sending upon you what my Father
promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from
on high.”

RESPONDING TO THE WORD
Hymn
Make Me A Channel of Your Peace
Make me a channel of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me bring your love.
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord,
and where there's doubt, true faith in you.

Refrain
Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek
so much to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love with all my soul.
Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope.
Where there is darkness, only light,
and where there's sadness, ever joy.
refrain
Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
in giving of ourselves that we receive,
and in dying that we're born to eternal life.
