Welcome to Sunday Worship
Father’s Day
3rd Sunday after Pentecost, June 21, 2020 10:00 am
Welcome and Announcements
GATHERING AROUND THE WORD
Opening Prayer
Out of deep need, we enter your holy temple, O Lord, seeking your
presence and your guidance. As Jesus charged his waiting disciples,
deliver now your charge to us. And lead us, as he led them, into the
fields white unto harvest, that we may become faithful laborers in your
vineyard. AMEN.
Call to Worship
One: The Lord bore you on eagles' wings to enter into a covenant
with you. Now therefore, if you will obey the Lord and keep
the covenant, you shall be the Lord's own possession
among all peoples.
All: We recognize the Lord's voice and keep His covenant.
One: The Lord bore you on eagles' wings to establish a colony of
heaven on earth. Now therefore, if you will obey the Lord
and keep the covenant, you shall be the Lord's
ambassadors to all peoples.
All: We recognize the Lord's voice and keep His covenant.
All that the Lord has spoken of we will do.

Hymn
How Great Thou Art
O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed; (Refrain)
Refrain
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander

And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down from lofty mountains grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze; (Refrain)

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing,

Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin; (Refrain)

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation

And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art! (Refrain)

Litany
One: O God of Peter and Andrew, Mary and Martha, you
change simple people into powerful disciples.
All: The reign of God is at hand. Let us proclaim the good
news in word and deed.
One: O God of St. Francis, you teach us to minister to the poor
by taking your place at their side.
All: The reign of God is at hand. Let us proclaim the good
news in word and deed.
One: O God of John Knox, you turn fields into pulpits and
streets into sanctuaries.
All: The reign of God is at hand. Let us proclaim the good
news in word and deed.
One: O God of Mother Teresa, instead of waiting for them to
come to you, you take your hospice to the sick.
All: The reign of God is at hand. Let us proclaim the good
news in word and deed.
One: O God of nameless ones who would become your
disciples if we would but lead them in the way of the Lord,
help us no longer to obstruct their path.
All: The reign of God is at hand. Let us proclaim the good
news in word and deed. Amen.

PROCLAIMING THE WORD
Prayer of Illumination
Reading from the New Testament
Romans 6:1-11
…Should we continue in sin in order that grace may abound? 2 By no
means! How can we who died to sin go on living in it? 3 Do you not know
that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized
into his death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism
into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory
of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have
been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with
him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified
with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we might no
longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For whoever has died is freed from sin. 8 But
if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again;
death no longer has dominion over him. 10 The death he died, he died
to sin, once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 So you also
must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Reading from the Gospel
Mathew 10:24-39
24 “A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a slave above the master;
25 it is enough for the disciple to be like the teacher, and the slave like
the master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how
much more will they malign those of his household! 26 “So have no fear
of them; for nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing
secret that will not become known. 27 What I say to you in the dark, tell
in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops.
28 Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear
him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows
sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from
your Father. 30 And even the hairs of your head are all counted. 31 So
do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.
32 “Everyone therefore who acknowledges me before others, I also will
acknowledge before my Father in heaven; 33 but whoever denies me
before others, I also will deny before my Father in heaven. 34 “Do not
think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to
bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his
father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against
her mother-in-law; 36 and one’s foes will be members of one’s own
household. 37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not
worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not
worthy of me; 38 and whoever does not take up the cross and follow me
is not worthy of me. 39 Those who find their life will lose it, and those
who lose their life for my sake will find it. The Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version. (1989).

My Sermon Notes:

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

Affirmation of Faith Psalm 69
O LORD, your steadfast love is good; according to your
abundant grace, turn to us your people. Do not hide your
face from your servants, for we are in distress—make
haste to answer. Draw near to us, redeem us, set us free
from our own selves that we would seek to serve you
alone. Our prayer is in you, O LORD. At an acceptable
time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love,
answer your people and draw us to you. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

GOING OUT INTO THE WORLD

Hymn
Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
‘Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,

Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.
Benediction

ministries here at Christ Presbyterian Church, we thank you for your
generous heart. If you have not given recently, we encourage you to
consider doing so. Three ways to give from home:
1. Online at www.largocpc.org
2. Through GIVEplus App on Apple or Android devices
3. Mail a gift directly to the church
Each of these options allows us to continue to meet the needs of the
ministries that Christ has called us to do as His church in this
community and in the world.
