Call to Worship
One: I love the Lord, because God has heard my voice and my supplications.
You have inclined your ear to me; therefore I will call on you as long as I
live. What shall I return to the Lord? I will lift up the cup of salvation and
call on your name, O God. I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence
of all God’s people.
All: We come to worship God on this Holy night!
Hymn
Change My Heart, O God
Change my heart, O God; make it ever true.
Change my heart, O God; may I be like you.
You are the Potter; I am the clay.
Mold me and make me; this is what I pray.
Change my heart, O God; make it ever true.
Change my heart, O God; may I be like you.
Litany of Intercession
One: Lord, have mercy.
All: Christ, have mercy.
One: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, hear our prayer.
All: Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us.
One: Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; grant us your peace.
All: O Christ our Lord, hear our prayer, have mercy.

2
One: Eternal Father, by sending your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, you
proclaimed peace to the world, and by shedding his blood on the cross,
he opened the way for all humanity to find peace with you. Hold the cross
high that every eye may see. Kindle every heart with your Spirit that all
may follow Christ’s example and be faithful to serve you, that peace may
fill every heart and govern the nations of the world; through Jesus Christ
our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now
and forever. Amen.

Reading from the Epistles
1 Corinthians 11:23-26
For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus
on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, 24 and when he had
given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in
remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way he took the cup also, after supper,
saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink
it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the
cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

John 13:1-17, 31b-35
Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to
depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in
the world, he loved them to the end. 2 The devil had already put it into the heart
of Judas son of Simon Iscariot to betray him. And during supper 3 Jesus,
knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come
from God and was going to God, 4 got up from the table, took off his outer robe,
and tied a towel around himself. 5 Then he poured water into a basin and began
to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around
him. 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash

3
my feet?” 7 Jesus answered, “You do not know now what I am doing, but later
you will understand.” 8 Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet.” Jesus
answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no share with me.” 9 Simon Peter said
to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” 10 Jesus said
to him, “One who has bathed does not need to wash, except for the feet, but is
entirely clean. And you are clean, though not all of you.” 11 For he knew who
was to betray him; for this reason he said, “Not all of you are clean.” 12 After he
had washed their feet, had put on his robe, and had returned to the table, he said
to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call me Teacher and
Lord—and you are right, for that is what I am. 14 So if I, your Lord and Teacher,
have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have
set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. 16 Very truly,
I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater
than the one who sent them. 17 If you know these things, you are blessed if you
do them. 31 “Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified
in him. 32 If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself
and will glorify him at once. 33 Little children, I am with you only a little longer.
You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, ‘Where I am
going, you cannot come.’ 34 I give you a new commandment, that you love one
another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. 35 By this
everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Hymn
What Wondrous Love Is This
What wondrous love is this,
O my soul, O my soul,
what wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this
that caused the Lord of bliss
to bear the dreadful curse
for my soul, for my soul,
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul!
4
To God and to the Lamb,
I will sing, I will sing,
to God and to the Lamb, I will sing;
to God and to the Lamb
who is the great I AM,
while millions join the theme,
I will sing, I will sing;
while millions join the theme, I will sing!

Matthew 26:26-30 – The Lord’s Supper
While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it,
gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup,
and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this
is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
29 I tell you, I will never again drink of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it
new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” 30 When they had sung the hymn, they went
out to the Mount of Olives.

Matthew 26:36-46, 55-56 - Gethsemane
Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his
disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took with him Peter
and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and agitated. 38 Then
he said to them, “I am deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and stay
awake with me.” 39 And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and
prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not what I want
but what you want.” 40 Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping;
and he said to Peter, “So, could you not stay awake with me one hour? 41 Stay
awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial; the spirit indeed is
willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 Again he went away for the second time and
prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.” 43
Again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 So
6
leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same
words. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping
and taking your rest? See, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed
into the hands of sinners. 46 Get up, let us be going. See, my betrayer is at
hand.” 55 At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out as against
a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple
teaching, and you did not seize me. 56 But all this has taken place that the
Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and
fled.
