INTRODUCTION
Evangelistic Bible Study (EBS) is a small group outreach program wherein the gospel is shared
to a group of people for a certain period of time. Lessons in the manual provided are
evangelistic. They aim to explain the gospel to the listeners, hoping that all or at least some will
believe and receive the Lord Jesus. Converts produced in this program shall then be
encouraged to attend a CBC church to complete the process of discipleship as mandated by the
Lord Jesus in His Great Commission. The following are the objectives of EBS:
THE PARTICIPANTS
The program aims to reach out to people who are outside the church, especially unbelievers,
who are willing to give time to gather in a certain place to meet and talk about the gospel each
week for a certain period of time. It is for everyone who desires to be saved. The program can
be used for high school or college students, married or single adults.
The mode of the EBS shall be less formal, and the people are encouraged to interact, raise
questions and clarify pointers in order to clearly convey the gospel and build relationships with
the prospects.
A group size of six to ten is the most conducive for a good discussion. If the group is larger,
consider dividing it into smaller groups.
FORMING A GROUP
The source of the candidates for this program shall be the following: Sunday Worship Service
visitors, CBC members that are willing to host EBS in their neighborhood, and the converts from
the CBC Evangelistic Drives such as street evangelism or one-on-one evangelism. Here are the
steps in forming a new EBS group:
1. Pray. Pray for your own readiness to become a spiritual parent. Pray to God to prepare the
hearts of the people you are praying for this program: their faithfulness, availability and
teachability. Also pray for the host who will house the EBS sessions for a period of time.
2. Coordinate with the host. Talk to a CBC member or the interested visitor who is willing to lend
a conducive place to conduct the EBS, agreeing with the time and duration of each session.
3. Ask the commitment of the people you prayed for to be part of the EBS you are about to start.
Help them understand the time requirement for an EBS.
4. Start the program and be consistent with it. Faithfully pray for each member of the EBS
group formed. Look for signs of spiritual life in each of the group member.
EBS MECHANICS
WELCOME
The leader and the host shall make the atmosphere of each session warm and welcoming.
He/She has to make a point to acknowledge everybody who attends, specially the targets.
During the session the leader should be careful not to offend anybody in order to encourage
people to complete the program.
WORSHIP
The leader has to encourage the participants to worship the Lord through the reading of the
word and through the singing of worship songs. He is to exhort everyone regarding the nature of
true worship and encourage them to live a lifestyle of worship.

The leader shall discuss the lessons prepared in the EBS Manuals. The leader has to take
charge of each meeting without domineering. The leader shall discuss it with clarity, being
sensitive to the reactions of the people and facilitate discussion as necessary, without getting
diverted from the objective to teach God’s word. The teacher should encourage the participants
to raise questions to clarify the idea the participants may have. The leader has to encourage
each of the participants to respond to the propositions provided in the manual and to share their
personal testimonies.
WORK
Before the session ends the leader shall provide take-home materials for the participants to
ensure that the participants are saturated with God’s word on a daily basis. He will provide an
interactive material which the participants shall bring home, read and answer daily. The leader
shall then check the take-home material during the next session.
2. Worship (5 minutes)
Prepare worship songs, 2 songs at maximum for each session.
Start the worship with a short prayer of worship and praise.
Provide a short exhortation about worship.
Lead the singing, if the teacher is not good at singing, he/she may partner with
someone who can lead the singing. He/she may also bring a musician with him
such as a guitarist.
4. Work (5 minutes)
Provide participants with the take home material and encourage them to read a
topic daily.
Check the works of each participant. Ask the participants to share their
reflections to the group.
Ask for any prayer item from each of the participant.
Pray for the participants’ need and close the session.
Encourage each participant to bring a friend with them next session.
Lesson 1:
The Saving Faith
Hebrews 11:1-9
Scripture is everywhere clear: the one thing a person must do to be saved is exercise "true
saving faith" in Christ. Faith is the gift and instrument that God uses to bring individuals into
a saving relationship with Himself (See Eph. 2:8-9). Unfortunately, there are a lot of false
faiths in the world today. People have very vague understanding of what faith is, and it can
cause people to think that they are saved because they believed and confessed some facts
and totally miss who and what God is, forgiveness, and Heaven. Today we will investigate
a passage to see for ourselves what our faith should look like.
5. Faith is necessary to _________ the true God who rewards those who seek Him (v.
6).
a. True faith is not simply believing that a divine being exists but objectively
believing in the God of the Scriptures as the Only real and true God who exists.
b. True faith is believing that the God of the Scriptures will reward men’s faith in
Him with forgiveness and righteousness because He has promised to do so.
6. Faith propels one into _________ to God even beyond uncertainty (v.8).
(See also James 2: 14-26)
7. Faith keeps one _________ even when faced with poverty, persecution, and death
(v.9).
(See also Heb. 11:36-37)
Propositions:
Discussion Questions:
3. What is your reaction on the truth that faith is God’s gift for a person to be saved, not
something out of one’s will?
4. Why can’t one validate that faith in another god/s or deity is the true saving faith?
Lesson 2:
The Aspects of True Repentance
Psalm 51:1-17
Jesus’ opening call to the world when He began preaching is repentance (Matt. 4:17). Many
understand the term repentance to mean “turning from sin.” But in the Bible, the word “repent”
means “to change one’s mind.” The Bible also tells us that true repentance will result in a
change of actions (Luke 3:8-14; Acts 3:19). The full biblical definition of repentance is a change
of mind that results in a change of action. Today we will see if our repentance is genuine or not
by looking into its aspects.
3. There is a request for _________ from sin by God himself (v.2, v.7-9).
a. Only God can wash away all our sins and cleanse us from it.
b. Only God can remove the moral filth and make us blameless in His sight.
c. Only God can wipe out and destroy sin in our lives. (See Heb. 9:14)
4. There is a plea for _________ of relationship with God (vv. 8, 10-14, 17).
a. A true believer would be scared that he’d be cast out from God’s presence because
he understands the dread of sin.
b. A true believer should recognize that God deals with his sin as a mark of being God’s
child and, therefore, he should be willing to be corrected and disciplined.
c. A true believer is overwhelmed by joy and will be enthusiastic to tell others about
being forgiven from sins and loved by God. (See Matt. 5:8; Eze. 18:30-32 and 36:25-
27; Heb. 12:5-8; Act 9:21-22; Ps. 96:2)
Propositions:
1. Acknowledge that you are a sinner and in need to be saved from sin.
2. Humbly seek God’s mercy and grace.
3. Turn away from sin and turn to God.
4. Look up to Jesus Christ alone for righteousness.
5. Tell others about the way of salvation that can only be found in Jesus alone.
Discussion Questions:
3. Why does mere turning from sin not qualify as true repentance?
4. Why does repentance always result in joy and peace with God?
Lesson 3:
The True Submission to the Lordship of Christ
Luke 6:46-49
Jesus is the Creator of all things, who sustains all things in the universe. The God who saves
those who sinned against Him is the Lord of all. Everyone shall bow down and confess that He
is Lord (Phil. 2:9-11). Calling Jesus “Lord” is not a mere title for Jesus (John 13:13) and neither
a mere outward confession required for salvation as though “Jesus is Lord” is a magic word and
a password to heaven (Rom. 10:9-13). Calling Jesus as Lord entails a deeper meaning and
requires certain response and reverence from His creation especially from those whom He
saved. God calls everyone to submit to His Lordship.
3. Submission to the Lordship of Christ is more than just doing good works (v.48-
49).
a. It is not proper to do good works apart from what Christ has already
accomplished as the foundation of life and salvation. (See Eph. 2:8-10)
b. All works performed apart from Christ will not be accepted, and those who
practice them will perish at the Day of Judgment.
c. Only the good works built on the foundation of obedience to God’s word in faith
stands.
d. It results in repentance, rejection of salvation by works, and trust in God’s grace
to save through His merciful provision. (See 1 Cor. 3:11-12)
Propositions:
1. Cleave unto Christ alone through faith, recognizing that we are saved by grace, not in
our performance of good works.
2. Substantiate our profession of faith in the Lord by our actions prompted by our love for
Him.
3. Be doers of the word of God.
Discussion Questions:
1. Why is calling Jesus “Lord” and not truly submitting our lives to Him evil?
5. Why is it wrong to do good works apart from Christ, apart from faith, and apart from the
glory of God?
Lesson 4:
The Assurance of Salvation
1 John 5:11- 13
Many followers of Jesus Christ look for the assurance of salvation in wrong places. They tend to
seek assurance of salvation from the fruits of salvation such as obedience to the Word, spiritual
maturity, good works, etc. While these things can provide proof of salvation, they are not what
we should base the assurance of our salvation on. Rather, we should find the assurance of our
salvation in the objective truth of God’s Word. We should have confidence that we are saved
based on the declared promises of God and not because of our subjective experiences.
1. God has given His _________ that those that are in His Son have eternal life (v.11).
a. God wants us to have the assurance of our salvation. (Rom. 8:16; Gal. 4:6)
b. God, the supreme and highest being, has the full authority to keep His promises.
(See 1 John 5:9-10)
c. God does not lie and does not change. (See Num. 23:19; 1 Sam. 15:29; Heb.
6:16-19; Rom. 11:29)
d. The Spirit of God bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. (Rom.
8:16)
2. God has provided a _________ that those who have Jesus have life (v.12).
a. Those who believe in Jesus are saved. (See Acts 4;12; John 3:16; Romans 10:9;
John 3:36)
b. Those who are united in Jesus in death are also united with Him to life. (See
Rom. 5:8; 2 Cor. 5:21)
3. God _________ His unchanging promise of salvation on written form so that those
who are united with Christ shall not need to worry anymore but live in joy and
confidence in God.
a. Jesus Himself assures those who truly believe in Him. (See John 10:28-29)
b. Assurance of salvation is a certainty for those who have a relationship with Jesus
and possessing His nature. (See John 20:31; John 1:12)
Propositions:
Discussion Questions:
2. What are the things that cause you to doubt your salvation?
Lesson 5:
The Authority of God’s Word
Psalm 19:7-11
Everything absolute which we know about the one true God and his will for all He created is
found in His Word, namely the Scriptures, or as we call it in our time, the Bible. The Scriptures is
God-breathed. Through it we know God and the way to salvation. It is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness (2 Tim. 3:16). It is our manual of faith and the
authority pertaining to the divine truths of God and to godly living.
1. It is _________ (v.7a).
It refreshes the soul.
It is free from error. (Ps. 119:142)
It is the standard to which matters get a perfect reflection from. (James 1:27)
2. It is _________ (v.7b).
It makes the naïve wise. (Dt. 4:6; Ps. 119:130)
It is always true. (Ps. 19:9; Ps. 119:142)
It endures through generation after generation. (Ps. 93:5)
3. It is _________ (v.8a).
It gives joy to the heart.
It is impartial and unbiased. (Ps. 33:4)
4. It is _________ (v.8b).
It provides illumination or enlightenment. (Ps. 119:105)
5. It is _________ (v.9a).
It endures forever.
6. It is _________ (v.9b).
It will remain. (Matt. 24:35)
7. It is _________ (v.10a).
It is more precious than pure gold. (Ps. 119:72; Pro. 8:10)
8. It is _________ (v.10b).
It is sweeter than honey. (Ps. 119:103; Eze. 3:3)
Propositions:
Discussion Questions:
1. Why is it important to solely rely in the Scriptures to know anything about God?
3. Why is the word of God special and set apart from any other book written?
Lesson 6:
Living for the Glory of God
2 Peter 1:3-11
God by His grace made a way for us to be saved through faith in Christ Jesus. If by faith you
truly repented of your sins, received Jesus Christ as your Savior, and acknowledged Him as the
Lord of your life, congratulations! You are now forgiven of your sin (1 John 2:12), free from
condemnation (Rom. 8:1), now possess eternal life (1John 5:13), and called children of God
(John 1:12) to fulfill the purpose God created you for (Eph. 2:10). How great is the love of God
that He has lavished on you that you should be called the son of God (1John 3:1)! So, what is
next? Now that you are His son, you ought to live for His glory!
Propositions:
Discussion Questions:
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that
Christ Jesus is in you-unless, of course, you fail the test? 2 Corinthians 13:5
If List I is true of a person and List II is false, there is cause to question the validity of
one’s confession of faith. Yet if List II is true, then List I will be also.
