What I Can Do Lesson 01:

1. What polynomial will represent the length of a

rectangular garden?
Given

 The width of a rectangular garden is (2x + 3) meters. Its

length is four more than thrice its width.
Looking at the given, we can say that the length is more than
the width so we will represent the number sentence to a
polynomial equation.
Four more than thrice its width is 3x + 4. Then add it to the
width which is 2x + 3.
(3x + 4) + (2x + 3)
(3x + 2x) + (4 + 3)
= 5x + 7 is the length of the garden.
2. What polynomial will represent the perimeter?
Use the formula of the perimeter of a rectangle to find the
polynomial equation.
Given

 Length = 5x + 7
 Width = 3x + 4
P = 2L + 2W
P = 2(5x + 7) + 2(3x + 4)
P = 10x + 20 + 6x + 8
P = (10x + 6x) + (20 + 8)
P = 16x + 28 is the polynomial for the perimiter
3. What polynomial will represent the area?
Use the formula for the area of the rectangle to find the
polynomial equation.
Given

 Length = 5x + 7
 Width = 3x + 4
A = LW
A = (5x + 7)(3x + 4)
A = 15x² + 20x + 21x + 28
A = 15x² + 41x + 28 is the polynomial for the area.
