Tech III Year and IDD III Year Electrical Engineering Mid Semester Examination 2021-22
Sub: EE-322 (Synchronous machine and Induction Machine)
MM: 15
Duration: 24 Hrs
Note: In addition to uploading the neatly hand written answer sheet on MS Team, you have to send the same
answer sheet within stipulated time to following e-mail ids:
Roll no. 19085001-19085045: indrasisroy.eee20@itbhu.ac.in
Roll no. 19085046-19085090: dixchenghising.eee20@itbhu.ac.in

Attempt all questions. The number at the right side of the question indicate the marks assigned to it.
Q1. A three phase star connected 220 V (line to line) 7.5 kW, 60 Hz, six pole induction motor has the [3]
following parameters values in ohm/phase referred to the stator:
R1= 0.294, R2= 0.144, X1= 0.503, X2= 0.209, Xm= 13.25
The total friction and windage losses may be assumed to be constant at “A” watts independent of
load. For a slip of “B” percent, Compute the speed, output torque and power, stator current, power
factor and efficiency when the motor is operated at rated voltage and frequency.
Note: “A”= last three digits of your roll no.
And “B”= last digit of your roll no.

Q2. A 10 kW, 400 V, 3 phase induction motor has full load efficiency of 0.87 and power factor of 0.85. At [3]
standstill and at rated voltage, the motor draws 5 times its full load current and develops a starting
torque of “C.B” times its full load torque. An auto transformer is installed to reduce the starting
current and to give full load torque at starting. Neglecting the exciting current of auto transformer,
determine at the time of starting
(a) the voltage applied to the motor terminals
(b) the current drawn by the motor and
(c ) The line current drawn by the supply mains
Note: “C”= first digit of your roll no.
And “B”= last digit of your roll no.

Q3. A three phase, star connected, 400 volts, 50 Hz, 4 pole induction motor has the following per phase [3]
constants in ohms referred to stator:
R1= 0.15, R2= 0.A, X1= 0.45, X2= 0.45, Xm= 28.5
The total friction and windage losses may be assumed to be constant at “A” watts independent of
load. Compute the stator current, rated speed, output torque and efficiency when the motor is
operated at rated voltage and frequency.
Note: “A”= last three digits of your roll no.

Q4 Describe the method of rotor resistance starting of a slip ring induction motor by deriving relevant [3]
expressions for starter.
Q5. Derive the torque-speed characteristics of a three phase induction motor with the help of its [3]
thevenin’s equivalent circuit.
