 Read the directions carefully and comprehend the following items
 Answer the following items as directed.
 Cheating is strictly not allowed, anyone caught will automatically get zero in the exam.
 For items with solving, write your solutions clearly and neatly in a clean sheet of paper. Avoid erasures as much
as possible.

I. Classifying Situations

A. Classify whether each situation applies to Law of Inertia, Law of Acceleration, Law of Interaction

Example:
_ Law of Inertia ___ Matt Bryant kicked the winning field goal for the Atlanta Falcons football game.

________________ 1. Your book bag is sitting on your desk and not moving.
________________ 2. The book bag is applying a force on the table and the table is applying an equal and opposite force
on the book bag
________________ 3. You apply a force to your book bag and it causes the book bag to accelerate across the table.
________________ 4. A baseball player hits a homerun.
________________ 5. The force that the baseball player applies on baseball causes the baseball to accelerate

B. Classify whether each situation has positive work, negative work, zero work.

Example:
positive work The angle between the Force and displacement is 20°.

________________ 1. The angle between the Force and displacement is 90°.

________________ 2. The angle between the Force and displacement is 180°.
________________ 3. The angle between the Force and displacement is 0°.
________________ 4. The angle between the Force and displacement is 75°.
________________ 5. The angle between the Force and displacement is 100°.

C. Classify whether each situation has increasing KE, decreasing KE, constant KE.

Example:
increasing KE The angle between the Force and displacement is 20°.

II. PROBLEM SOLVING (3 points each)

Directions: Solve the following problems. Write your solutions clearly and neatly in a clean sheet of paper. Avoid
erasures as much as possible.

12 N 26 N
1. Give the net force and the direction on the block.

2. The mass of a large car is 1000 kg. How much force would be required to accelerate the car at a rate of 3 m/s 2?

3. A force of 250 N is applied to an object that accelerates at a rate of 5 m/s2. What is the mass of the object?

4. Give the dot product of the following vectors.

𝐴⃑ = 20𝑗̂ − 30𝑘̂
⃑⃑ = 10𝑖̂
𝐵
5. Give the dot product of the following vectors.
𝐴⃑ = −6𝑖̂ − 10𝑗̂ + 10𝑘̂
⃑⃑ = 𝑖̂ + 𝑗̂ + 𝑘̂
𝐵

6. A 75.0 kg man pushes on a 5.0 x 105 ton wall for 250 s but it does not move. How much work does he do on the
wall? (2000 lb = 1 ton; 0.454 kg = 1 lb)

7. Calculate the work done by a 2.4 N force pushing a 400 g sandwich across a table 0.75 m wide.

8. Missy Diwater, the former platform diver for the Ringling Brother's Circus had a kinetic energy of 15,000 J just
prior to hitting the bucket of water. If Missy's mass is 50 kg, then what is her speed?

9. A cart is loaded with a brick and pulled at constant speed along an inclined plane to the height of a seat-top. If the
mass of the loaded cart is 3.0 kg and the height of the seat top is 0.45 meters, then what is the potential energy of
the loaded cart at the height of the seat-top?

10. A spring has a spring constant of 256 N/m. How far must it be stretched to give it an elastic potential energy of 48
J?

11. A 75-kg piano is hoisted on a crane and delivered through the window of a 6th-story apartment (20 meters above
the ground). What is the potential energy of the piano?

12. Determine the kinetic energy of a 1000-kg roller coaster car that is moving with a speed of 20.0 m/s.

13. A L.8 kg book has been dropped from the top of the football stadium. Its speed is 4.8 m/s when it is 2.9 metres
above the ground. What is its mechanical energy?

14. A 60-Watt light bulb runs for 5.0 seconds. How much energy does it use?
15. Fill in the missing values. Assume no energy losses due to friction.
