Question 1:
A) Statement of work (SOW)
It is hard to give a precise statement of work here as the only given information is “Production
of punching machine” so I’m just going to state what was presented in the lecture with some
added questions that can be written for each part:
1- Introduction and background: what do the firm produce? How does a punching machine work?
What do you know about the production of punching machines? Why does the firm want to
produce punching machine? What do you know about the market demand for punching
machines? Are there any competitors in the area?
2- Technical description of the project: what type of punching machine you are going to produce?
What budget do you have as a constraint for the project? What machines and equipment’s you
will use for the project? Describe the production line? How many employees will be needed?
3- Timeline and milestones: where will the project take place? When will the project start and it
will be completed? Is there an expected delivery schedule?
B) Work Breakdown structure (WBS): 1. punching machine production

Question 3:
a) We can see from the case that Sami is over pushing the team and focusing only on the task, he
disregarded the fact that the team came from different background and their mental health and
social life is important at this part of their life. Sami lacked the empathy and social skills to
connect the team and make them enjoy what they are doing. And when Sami noticed that the
team is not effective, he pressed them to work more and that ruined their confidence and
demotivated the whole team.
b) Sami has a great experience in his job and I’m sure he would be a great manager during ordinary
working conditions. However, the project here is a fast track one and the team members came
from many different backgrounds, none of which is an ordinary situation. Being a good a manger
is not enough. Sami needs to be a good Leader, to focus on the people rather than focusing on
the system. This can be achieved by having an effective communication skill, to connect the
group together and add a social aspect the project. This will cheer the group, motivate them,
and make a strong influence on their skills.
in addition to the social aspect, Sami can develop a unique reward system to encourage the
team. Also, Sami can hold a training program; each member came from a different background
and maybe they are used to work using different technic, so by training them and showing them
the right way to do the task they would become more efficient and productive. Work smarter,
not harder.
