OF COMPLIMENT AND DESCRIPTIVE TEXT MATERIAL

I. EXPRESSIONS OF COMPLIMENT
1. Please watch the video about GIVING COMPLIMENT that will be played by the teacher.
2. Re-write the explanations about how to compliment someone in English that are given in the
video in your note book.
3. Re-write the following chart in your notebook and complete it based on the information given
in the video and don’t forget to write down your name on the top right of your notes, then capture
your notes, put it in form of word document and save it as pdf. Then send it to google classrom.
Save the file with: Students’ No._Full Name_Class_Expressions of Compliment.
4. You will get the maximum score from all correct answer if you submit it on time after the class
schedule is over. Wrong punctuation, spelling, and capitalization will be considered as wrong

II. DESCRIPTIVE TEXT

A. DEFINITION
A descriptive text is a text that describes a particular object like a place, thing, or person.
B. SOCIAL FUNCTION
What is the author’s purpose in writing a description? The author wants to describe the
particular object by describing its or his/her specific features to help readers visualize what a
person, an animal, a park, or a thing is like.
C. GENERIC STRUCTURE
1. Identification. We can find this part in the first paragraph. This part Identifies phenomenon
(person, place, or thing) or introduces the object, place or person that will be described in
detail in next paragraph.
2. Description. We can find this part in next paragraph. In this part we can see the descriptions
of parts, qualities, characteristics from an object, a place or a person in detail.
D. LANGUAGE FEATURE
1. Focusing on a specific object
2. Using Simple Present Tense. It uses present simple because it talks about fact. For example:
I usually read the Newspaper. It doesn’t snow in Bangkok.
3. Using adjectives and adverbs to add information to nouns and verbs in the provision of
detailed information. Adjective example: Wide, beautiful, good.
4. Using action verb. For example: See, visit, go, research.
5. Using adverbial phrases of manner, place, or time.
6. Using words explaining characteristics or features (size, shape, location, colour,etc).
7. Using details to visualize the topic. Providing examples (using the phrases for instance,
such as, to illustrate, or to demonstrate)
8. Using the topic word or the topic-synonymous word repeatedly.
9. Frequently using pre-and post-modified noun phrases.

How we use present simple?
Positive: subject + verb + (O)
He/She/It + V1 + -s/-es
Negative: Subject + Auxiliary Verb (do/does) +not +V1
Don’t/doesn’t, don’t/doesn’t, don’t’/dont’ (x)
Interrogative: Do/Does +S+ V1 ?
QuASM=Question word, Auxiliary verb, Subject, Main verb.
ORDER OF ADJECTIVES
When we have more than one adjectives before a noun, they usually come in this order:
Opinion
Size, length
Age
Shape
Texture
Colour
Origin
Material
Purpose

to do.
