Basis
1.- Darcy Friction Factor is calculated by iterating the Colebrook Implicit Equation.
Crane Technical Paper No. 410, 2010, Eq. 6-5, & 6-6
2.- Default value for pipe roughness is 0.0018 in for Commercial Steel; for other materials see Table: ROUGHNESS OF PIPE MATERIAL
3.- DP/100ft is calculated using Darcy's equation for pressure drop of incompressible flow in straight pipes. Crane Technical
Paper No.410, 2010, Eq. 6-8.
4.- The Darcy equation may be used for gases & vapors with the following restrictions:
a) When DP is less than ~10% of P1, use rho or velocity based on either up- or downstream conditions.
b) When DP is greater than ~10% of P1, but less than ~40% of P1, use the average density or velocity, based on the
upstream and downstream conditions.
c) When DP is greater than ~40% of P1, use compressible flow equations (or divide length in small increments)
5.- All equations are referenced in Excel comments on the corresponding headers.
Future improvements
2.- Implement 2-K method for extremely viscous materials (laminar flow)
3.- Only the first 16 rows get plotted on the 2-phase flow charts. Consider expansion to admit more rows.
