USING SONG LYRICS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE
DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTION (FLDI) AL-

Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the important language elements in mastering English which is a form of
4 language skills, namely reading, listening, writing and speaking. Most people learning
languages, especially English, must use vocabulary properly and correctly both in writing and
in writing which makes the way of speaking more accurate. FLDI is an institution that
specializes in the field of language, namely Arabic and English. This institution stimulates and
develops the interest of language enthusiasts, both Arabic and English, researchers will see
the extent to which the vocabulary mastery process is trained, studied, and practiced in
language skills at the FLDI in the Al-Hasyimiyah Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School. The
research was carried out from 20 June to 20 August 2021. This research is qualitative
research whose type of research is a case study research on the method of learning English
vocabulary in the field. The method of collecting data in the field in this research is using test
techniques (giving material tests), interviews, and observations. The result showed that
learning English in mastering vocabulary using song lyrics is very effective and fun. This
learning can also developed four basics English skills; listening skills, speaking skills, reading
skills, and writing skills. The researchers used the song "A whole new world" as an instrument
that contains 11 incomplete lyrics. Then, the researcher calculated the average score in the
test where the result was 93 and the score was in the excellent category. And this value
proves that learning English using song lyrics is very effective in helping students to master
vocabulary.

Abstrak

Kosakata merupakan salah satu unsur bahasa yang penting dalam penguasaan bahasa
Inggris yang merupakan wujud dari 4 keterampilan berbahasa, yaitu membaca,
mendengarkan, menulis dan berbicara. Kebanyakan orang yang belajar bahasa, khususnya
bahasa Inggris, harus menggunakan kosakata dengan baik dan benar baik secara tertulis
maupun tertulis yang membuat cara berbicara lebih akurat. FLDI merupakan lembaga yang
mengkhususkan diri dalam bidang bahasa, yaitu bahasa Arab dan bahasa Inggris. Lembaga
ini merangsang dan mengembangkan minat peminat bahasa, baik bahasa Arab maupun
bahasa Inggris, peneliti akan melihat sejauh mana proses penguasaan kosakata yang
dilatih, dipelajari, dan dipraktekkan dalam keterampilan berbahasa di FLDI Pondok
Pesantren Al-Hasyimiyah Nurul Jadid . Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 20 Juni
sampai dengan 20 Agustus 2021. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang jenis
penelitiannya adalah penelitian studi kasus tentang metode pembelajaran kosakata bahasa
Inggris di lapangan. Metode pengumpulan data di lapangan dalam penelitian ini
menggunakan teknik tes (pemberian materi tes), wawancara, dan observasi. Hasil
penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dalam penguasaan kosakata
menggunakan lirik lagu sangat efektif dan menyenangkan. Pembelajaran ini juga dapat
mengembangkan empat keterampilan dasar bahasa Inggris; keterampilan menyimak,
keterampilan berbicara, keterampilan membaca, dan keterampilan menulis. Para peneliti
menggunakan lagu "A whole new world" sebagai instrumen yang berisi 11 lirik yang tidak
lengkap. Kemudian peneliti menghitung menggunakan rata-rata skor pada tes tersebut
dimana hasilnya adalah 93 dan skor tersebut termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik. Dan
nilai ini membuktikan bahwa pembelajaran bahasa Inggris menggunakan lirik lagu sangat
efektif dalam membantu siswa menguasai kosakata.
