ACTIONS TAKEN BY THE PHILIPPINE
GOVERNMENT IN FACING COVID-19
(Persuasive Speech)

Good morning, everyone! I am Chrelle P. Tenebro and here goes my speech: One of the crisis that we’re facing today

is the COVID-19 Pandemic. Almost 2 years has passed since the ECQ (Enhanced Community Quarantine) was first implemented

here in the Philippines. Do you still remember back when the media and the government announced that there was a suspension of

classes because of the first local transmission of the virus here in our country? Do you also still remember the happy feeling you felt

when classes were suspended because going to school is exhausting, without knowing that it would be the last time that you’ll

spend time with your friends and classmates? If you would ask me, I remember it all too well.

The COVID-19 made a big impact to the lives of the Filipino citizens. A lot of Filipinos struggled, lost their jobs and

was unemployed due to the pandemic. The Philippine Government along with the Local Government Units, stepped in and provided

food packs, government aid, and assistance to their respective constituents. The Philippines' response to the COVID-19 pandemic

included a number of declarations of emergency, the closure of schools, lockdown implementation, and other measures aimed at

slowing the virus's spread. The Philippine Government also mandated all the citizens to wear face masks and face shields. After

knowing that face shields were mandated, the first thing that went into my head is, “Who needs face shields anyway?” It’s really

unnecessary. Face shields are only useful in a healthcare setting and only in areas with possibilities of liquid splashes. Otherwise,

they are useless. Also, while other countries are busy procuring vaccines, the government has been stuck long in defining mass

vaccination instead of procuring vaccines. Failure to procure vaccines because of delay and lack of supply is different from

incompetence and mistakes. Apart from that, students are struggling mentally, emotionally, and physically because of the draining

learning system under the failed pandemic response of the government. Instead of having safe resumption of classes, we’re being

stuck in this system. Implementation of lockdowns should also stop because if this will continue, our economy will not prosper and it

will sink. And they should also make a way to persuade the citizens to get vaccinated because in the future, we’ll also be the ones

who will benefit from it.

With all of these actions being mandated and taken by the Philippine Government, the overall pandemic response of

the country is very low. I mean, I know that there is no perfect government but some of our current government officials are very

incompetent and corrupt. If only they had made a pandemic plan and preparedness in the first place, we would not have taken this

long to recover from the COVID-19 Pandemic. We need to wake up and realize that we need better governance. And to all those

people who are eligible to vote, your vote is your choice but please know that your decision matters more than you think so vote

wisely because history might repeat itself. What we have experienced is enough. Never again.
