ANALYSIS OF TEACHING AND LEARNING CYCLE IN A SET OF ACTIVITIES

UNIT FIVE BIOGRAPHY TEXT

Activities: Building Knowledge of the Field and Text

- Task 1: There are 3 pictures of famous people from Indonesia’s history. After the pictures,
there are some questions asking students about the knowledge of those three people. The
questions also mention the word ‘biography’. This means that this activity introduces the
students to the topic which is the biography of Indonesia’s important person.

- Task 2: Students need to complete table that include words category, phonetic transcription,
and their definition. Then, speak the words, repeat after the teacher.

- Task 3: Students are asked questions about what is known from a photo and what is not, the
facts and what can be taken from a character. after answering the question they will be given a
video explaining about the photo. It will be building a knowlegdge of bioghrapy the character.

- Task 4: There is a video that students should watch carefully and students must to answer the
question.

- Task 5: The student will answer 4 question about what do you know, what you want to know,
facts and what can be taken from the character's story. Supported Reading, Listening, and
Viewing

- Task 6: There is a biography material, There is a video that students should watch carefully and
answered the question. These activities encourage students to practice the relevant features of
biography text that will be needed in the next tasks.

- Task 7: Students must to discuss the unfamiliar words in order to help them incomprehending
the text. This activity helps students to comprehend their understanding of the text by discuss the
unfamiliar words and compare it with the ideas of their teacher and classmates.

- Task 8: This activity asks students to once more read the text and answer the questions. The
questions can develop students’ conscious knowledge about biography text. The task intent to
make students learn the pattern of language from the text.
- Task 9: Students work with a partner and analysis the tenses and the explanations that use in
biography text.

- Task 10: There are a sentences, students must complete each sentences with the right tenses.

- Task 11:In this task, the organization of the text that helps students in learning the text is
introduce. This task provide a biography text, the students read the following text and determine
the organization of the text and also its social function.

- Task 12: In This task, students compare their responses with other group.

- Task 13: This task helps students in learning language features of a biography text, also in
learning the organization of the text. Joint Construction of the Text.

- Task 14: Students must pay attention about the teacher explanation after that take note of the
definition, characteristic, function, structure of the text, and language feature of biography text.
This activity helps students to figure out what their need to explore, and determine what concepts
need further instructional attention. Modeling/ Deconstruction of the Text

- Task 15: The teacher leads students to construct a biography of Hamka by searching for his
personal life, career, and award. This activity is in accordance with the nature of joint
construction step where students begin to construct own examples of the texttype being
examined.

- Task 16: The teacher checks the content and gives criticism as a help in the development cycle.

- Task 17: Students check their classmate’s writing. The teacher will let the students to revisit
and critique using feedback, this activity encourage students in the constructions process.

- Task 18: Student will write the final topic that given from teacher Independent Construction of
the Text

- Task 19: There is a picture of important person in Indonesia’s history. Students must make their
own biography text that related to the picture.

- Task 20: This activity leads students to independently construct the text. Learners’
performances will be assessed and evaluated.
