Introduction
Thank you very much for selecting a product of ours.
This document is an Operations Manual for ALV2 Series PC-Server Software. This document has been
created for its intended users who have a reasonable amount of engineering knowledge in the PC-Server
Software.
* Important notice
Operating in the PC-Server Software requires a certain level of system engineering knowledge. It should
be noted that a mistake in operations or maintenance work could lead to reducing the security level. It is
also recommended that this manual is stored in a secured place when not in use. In order to prevent
malfunctioning of the system, please refrain from installing the PC with other software than this one since
warranty does NOT cover such cases.

1. Function Overview
PC-Server Software (hereafter called “the Controller unit”) is the equipment to issue and manage
various cards for Miwa’s Hotel Card Lock System, ALV2 series. This system works on a PC installed with
“WindowsXP / WindowsVista / Windows7(32bit only)” as its operating system (OS).
2. System Structure
The general structure of the condition where this system can work is shown in the following
“ Diagram 1 General Structure”.

Card Issuing System … This is the system to issue cards that consists of the controller unit part,
the encoder unit part and the keyboard display unit part (optional). In
this configuration, a PC-Server Software has been used as a controller
unit part. One PC-Server Software can be connected to up to 32
encoders.
Card … Card key for entry – issued at the card issuing system.
Locking unit … Locking unit for doors – unlocked with card keys issued at the card
issuing system.
DTU … Data Transfer Unit – Hand-held interface terminal between the card
issuing system and locking unit.

(2) Encoder
Encoders can issue cards for ALV2 system. Up to 32 encoder units can be connected per
Controller unit with as many as 51 of them in the total system including the sever and all the
client controller units.
Types of encoders are as follows.
Encoder with print function (MCR)
Data can be written down on cards and such data can also be read with the encoder. In addition to
that, room numbers, checkout times and other information can be printed on the surface of the cards.

4. Card Type
The following chart shows the various types of cards that can be issued in this system.
(Please also refer to “18.1 Card type”)
A newly issued card, when used for entry at the locking unit, will invalidate previously issued ones.
* There are two types of cards, “A” and “B” for Guest card, Multi card, Maintenance card, One-shot card
and Standby card.
“A” type cards are for Mifare 1K and “B” type cards are for Mifare UltraLight.
Type selections are to be made according to the desired operations.
(Please also refer to “13.10 System operation set”)
4.1 Guest card
Cards for guests – can be issued through both the server and client unit.
(1) Guest card(GUA/GUB)
Cards for guests – can unlock the corresponding locking unit during the set check in / checkout period. The
following functions can be added.
* Secondary room designation
In addition to 1 main room, 5 other rooms for GUA and another room for GUB can be registered as
secondary rooms.
* Shutout (to prohibit housekeepers’ entry)
While the guest is still staying, disable sub-master, maintenance, housekeeping lockout, master lockout
and cancel cards from unlocking the target locking unit.
* Buzzer indication when unlocking
When unlocked a buzzer sound goes on. (It buzzes also upon operation error.)
* Dead bolt override
An entry becomes possible even when double-locked.
(2) Multi guest card (GM1/ GM2/ GM3/ GM4)
Cards for guests - 4 types are available: multi card 1 (GM1: Entry to 4 individual rooms), Multi card 2
(GM2: Entry to 2 individual rooms and 1 room range), Multi card 3 (for entry to 2 room ranges), Multi card 4
(for entry to a commonly used room and 3 individual rooms) - can unlock the corresponding locking unit
during the set check in / checkout period. The following functions can be added.
* Shutout (to prohibit housekeepers’ entry)

and cancel cards from unlocking the target locking unit.

5. Basic Operations
This section covers basic operational methods commonly used in the system as a whole.
Since the main menu is always displayed, you can move to another function menu while the
previously selected sub-menu is still displayed.

Values can also be directly input.
* Calendar
To have a calender display, click “V” on the right side of the item box.
Please refer a separate explanation: 「5.3.3 Calendar screen」 in a later part.
Direct input is also possible by selecting Year / Month / and Date / part respectively.
* Time
Select the desired values by clicking ▲/▼ to set the time.
Direct input is also possible by selecting Hour / and Time / part respectively

Select this with a mouse to display the system menu.
* Minimize button
Select this to minimize the menu screen (store it in the task bar).
Can be used only on the main menu screen.
* Maximize button
Select this to maximize the screen image to the limit of the monitor size.
Can be used on all the menu screen with a title bar.
* System menu

* Screen move
Drag a title bar on the screen to move it. They can be moved with arrow keys when
“move” is selected in the system menu.
* Maximize the screen
Select the maximize button on the title bar to maximize the screen image to the limit of
the monitor screen. You can also select “maximize” in the system menu to do the
same.
* Minimize the screen
Select the minimize button on the title bar to minimize the screen image. You can also
select “minimize” in the system menu to do the same.
* See- through
On any screens except the main one, the screen image becomes transparent so that
another screen behind it can be seen through when CTRL+ALT keys are pressed.

6.1.1 Startup
The system will be automatically booted when the PC is started.
To manually boot it, do one of the following operations. (For rebooting after shutdown, etc.)
* Navigate Start -> Program -> ALV2 PC Server -> ALV2 PC Server
In the startup screen, the version information and the progress bar will be displayed to let the user know startup is in
progress.
The progress bar may repeat its movement after it has reached the right end if the startup procedure is still in
progress at that point.

Navigate through “Setup” -> ”System operation setting” to display the designated property name.

The version of the server in use.

Shows the transit information of the displayed screen

Refer to “15. Master data synchronization” for details.
* Main menu
Displays sub menus to select the desired function.
* Help button
Navigates to this manual.
* Logoff button
Closes the currently displayed function and displays the login screen.
* System operation info.
Displays the following information on the system.
* Controller unit No. Displays the number (C01 – C99) set in the “System
operation setting” of “Setup” menu.
* Staff name The name of the staff who is logging in
* System date System date (a day of the week) of the PC-Server

* System time System time of the PC-Server Software
(5) Verification
If the password matches the inserted authorization card, the main menu screen will be displayed.
6.2.3 Shutdown
Go through the following procedure to shutdown.
Click the “Log off” button to go to the “Log in” menu screen.
(2) To shutdown a PC server unit, a staff member with the “Shutdown authorization” must operate it.
In the same manner as the logging in operation, type in a staff code and the matching password
and then click the “Shutdown” button.
* If an authorization card has been used to log in, insert the authorization card.
(Refer to ”6.2 Log in operation”)
* Please refer to “13.8 Authorization set” for setting authorizations.
(3) Navigate “Start” -> “Shutdown” to turn off the main power of the PC after returning to the
Windows screen.

* Main menu display
Displayed menus on the main menu screen vary in accordance with the setting depending upon the staff
member to log in .
* Auto log off function
When the software has sat idle for the preset time, the user will be automatically logged off to prevent
unauthorized persons from operating the sytem.
The duration is changeable by setting and the auto log off function itself can also be disabled by setting.
(The unit has been dispatched without the function preset)
7. Guest card
This menu is for guest-card-related operations.
Press the “Guest card “button in the main menu to go to the “Guest card sub-menu” screen.

Room list
When designating a successive combination, put “-“ between the two ends of the range.
To additionally issue (duplicate) multi cards which had been issued for a group guests, a selection will have to
made whether the additionally issued cards can unlock all the rooms or individual, respective rooms.
(6) Multi card / Individual card
Multi cards: GM1(2,3,4) cards can unlock all the target locking units.
Individual card: GUA(B) card can only unlock individual rooms.
(7) Room range
When issuing multiple individual cards, type in the target room numbers.
* When additionally issuing (duplicating) individual cards, other than the above change, changes can be
made with the shutout flag, deadbolt override flag and buzzer flag settings.
Multi card issue can be done only when set to be effective at the initial setting .
(For setting, refer to “13.10 System operation set”)
* GM1
For entry to 4 individual rooms
* GM2
For entry to 2 individual rooms and 1 room range
* GM3
For entry to 2 room ranges
* GM4
For entry to 3 individual rooms and 1 commonly used room
(2) Room number
Type in the target room numbers
(3) Issue
Go to the card issuing menu screen.
(refer to “7.1 Guest card issue” for the card issuing operation.)
* No secondary room can be set for multi cards.
7.8 Checkout
This function is to delete information of an issued card to change the room status to unoccupied. After the room
status has become unoccupied, a new card can be issued to that room. There are two ways of doing a checkout
procedure: “Room checkout” by designating the room number, and “Card checkout” by using an actual card to
retrieve the necessary information.
In “Room checkout” function, regardless of the status change of the room to “unoccupied”, issued cards within the
valid duration can still work. It is, therefore, recommended that “Card checkout” function be used instead to
invalidate the actually issued cards by erasing the room key information on them (If multiple cards have been issued,
all of them must go through “card checkout” procedure).

(1) Tower
Select the tower (if there is no tower segment, this item will not be displayed).
(2) Room number
Type in the target room number and press “Enter” to see the issued card information on the
screen.
(3) Card issue information
If multiple cards with different durations had been issued, a list of card information will be
displayed. Select the duration for checkout.

(4) Checkout
When the “Checkout” button is selcted, the checkout
confirmation message will be displayed.
Press “Yes” for checkout and “No” to cancel the
operation.
* Do not retrieve the card even after the reading has been completed.
(3) Issued card information
Check the displayed information on the issued card.
(4) Checkout
When the “Checkout” button is selcted, the checkout confirmation message will be displayed.
When the “Checkout” button is selcted, the checkout confirmation message will
be displayed.
Press “Yes” for checkout and “No” to cancel the operation.
If multiple cards had been issued, repeat the procedure: (1) thru to (3).
(1) Encoder
Select the encoder (Print character erase can be done only with an MCR)
(2) The number of cards
Type in the number of the cards which print characters are to be erased.
(3) Continuous erase
Use this function to continuously erase the print characters without indicating a
specific number of cards. Press the “Stop” button to terminate the operation.
Note: when erasing print characters on more than 50 cards continuously, the
operation will be slowed down as the equipment gets heated up. The equipment
temperature will get back to normal in several minutes after the operation has been
completed.
(4) Erase (F9)
Start the operation. Insert the card according to the instruction displayed on the
screen.
8. Information
This function is to display card issue information and room occupation status.

Go through the following procedure (1) thru to (4) to narrow down the search condition.
(1) Room number
Type in the target room number. Searching by room numbers is possible only for STA/STB/PS type
cards.
* If left blank, all the rooms will become the subject.
* When the subject is 1 room only, use the left-hand-side space only.
(2) Card type
Select the target card type. If the blank is selected, all the cards will become the subject for the search
(3) Staff code
Type in the staff code who had issued the target card. If left blanc, all the staff members will become the
subject for the search.
If less-than 6 digits have been typed in, the corresponding numbers in the latter part will be searched.
(1) Level
Select the the inoformation level for the target event log.
If not selected, all the levels will become the subject for the search.
* Significant error: unexpected abnoramalities such as forced shutdown.
* Error: abnormalities such as setting trouble
* Warning: abnormalities which are minor enough to let the operation go on.
* Information on operations, etc.
* Debugging: Maintenance information
(2) Controller unit
Select the controller unit in which the target event has occurred. If not selected, all the controller units will
become the subject for the search.
(3) Start date / End date
Designate the date of the event happening.
No initial values have been set for Start date / End date. Use ”▼” button next to the date column to
narrow the data by date.

With this function the staff code of the card user will be encoded on the card.
(1) User (Staff) list
Tick the check box of the intended card user.
Staff to whom master cards have been issued are displayed in blue. For additional issue, tick
only the boxes for the staff to whom cards are to be issued this time. For reissue (replace) for
lost or stolen cards, tick all the boxes including ones for those to whom cards have been
already issued. The list shows staff who have been registered and checked with their
master cards being issued. (For detailed settings, refer to ”13.4 Staff registration“)
(2) Deadbolt override flag
When ticked, entry will be granted even though double-locked.
(3) Additional issue
Tick the “Additional issue” to duplicate existing cards so that newly issued cards can be used
along with the existing ones.
* Cards issued with other means will override and disable the existing ones from working.
(4) Issue (F9)
Insert (place) a card into an encoder unit to issue.
* As for the screen transition, refer to “5.4 Card issue operations”.
* At initial setting, if ticked in the box for “Issue SMS card without staff designation”, staff code of
the card holder cannot be encode on the cards – audit entry of such card cannot be used to
identify the card holder. Please do not use this function if it does not match your way of
managing the property. set”)
(As for detailed setting, refer to “13.10 System operation set”)
(1) Issue
Tick the boxes for the staff to whom cards are to be issued in the staff (Sub-master group) list.
* This menu is for card issue only – setting changes such as entry condition alteration cannot be done
here.
(For setting, refer to “13.7 Sub-master setting“)
(2) Audit trail overwrite
Audit trail function is to store the entry recorde log on the card itsown.
If not ticked in this box, the intended card will stop unlocking the corresponding locks when its audit record
log exceeds 140 cases (to be reissued for continuous use). If ticked, the old data will be overwritten with
new ones.
(3) Deadbolt override flag
When ticked, entry will be granted even though double-locked.
(4) No entry at battery extremely low
If this box is ticked, the card will keep on unlocking the corresponding locking units even at the point
where batteries are nearly dead. If ticked, in such cases, it will not unlock the locks, warning the battery
status by letting the locking unit’s buzzer go off to prevent the locking unit from completely stopping
working just before the batteries are all dead.
(5) Additional issue
If there are already issued cards, tick the check box for “Additional issue” so that newly issued ones can
be used along with the old ones. i
(6) Issue (F9)
Display “Sub-master card issue confirm” menu.
(When staff has not been selected, the confirm menu will not be displayed)
(1) Room
Designate the range of the rooms to which the cards are to be issued by typing in the room number to
start with and the one to end with. If it is for only one room, just type in that room number in the left-hand
side box.
* List (F5)
To specify a certain rooom, select the target room from the list (F5).
* Special room
If the target room has been set in a combination with special rooms, the entry to those special rooms will
be accordingly granted. (As for setting, refer to “13.5 Room set”)
(2) Number of the cards to be issued
It is recommended that 2 to 3 cards be issued per room including spare ones.
(3) Encoding Terminal (Card print)
It is recommended to issue 2 to 3 cards per room including spare ones. If in need of issuing standby
cards in a large quantity, it is recommended that an encoder unit with card print function be used to put
their room numbers on each of them respectively.
(4) Sequence
In normal use, the initially set values (the current time / date) should be kept. If other cards with a later
time / data are used, they will invalidate the old ones.
* If there are already issued cards, tick the check box for “Additional issue” so that newly issued ones can
be used along with the old ones.
* The change of sequence values will be effective only when issuing one card at one time.
(5) POS Information
To encode POS data on the card, refer to “13.13 POS data set”)
(6) Issue (F9)
Insert (place) a card into an encoder unit to issue.
* As for the screen transition, refer to “5.4 Card issue operations”.
Error log
Entry log
9 Interrogation log card / Error log card can retrieve a log data from one locking unit per card. When in
need of retrieving information from more than one lock, issue cards in the necessary quantity.
9 Although a locking unit can store up to 600 entry audit logs, an interrogation card can retrieve the latest
153 logs maximum. When in need of retrieving all 600 logs from a locking unit, please use a DTU.
(A locking unit can store 100 error logs maximum – so one error log card can retrieve them all)
In the “Management card read” menu, when MS or SMS cards are inserted, the “Auto audit trail” button will appear
on the “Card read” menu screen. Press this button to display the audit trail record on the usage of those cards.
(1) Staff / SMS group
* Staff code and name of the card user designated at the point of the card issue will be displayed.
* If is a SMS card, its SMS group will also be displayed.
(2) Audit trail
Date / Time The dates/time when the card was used.
Room number The rooms to which the card was used
Battery level Battery conditions of the locking units the card was used to
Deadbolt Double-locking condition of the rooms the card was used to
(“OFF”,”ON”)
Error counts The times of failed entry attempts.
Room type The room types of the rooms the card was used to
Abnormality Abnormalities, if any.
10. Maintenance
These various menus are to do with system settings and operation management.

If in need of a manual adjustment, tick off the box for “ Auto summertime adjustment”.

These are menus to do with various system setting and operations.
Press the “Technical” button to display the technical sub menus.

To display DTU sub menus, press “DTU” on the main menu screen.

12.4.1 Download
Implement a data download to register the DTU using staff set at “12.3 DTU User designation” to let them use the
equipment.
(1) Select “Down load”
12.4.2 Upload
This function enables locking units’ data log stored in the DTU to be monitored on the PC screen.
(1) Select “Upload”
13. Setup
This function menu is for initial setting of the system.
Press “Setup” button in the main menu to go to the “Set-up sub menu“ screen.
* For security reasons, if not operated for 30 minutes during the initial setup, the auto-log-off function will be activated.
When in need of leaving during initial set-up operations such as staff registration, make sure that “Set” button is
pressed to save the data before you go. Set data will all automatically be deleted at the point of auto logging off
unless saved.

This function is to register the card issuing system users, master/sub-master cardholders and DTU users.
Registration, editing and deletion of staff will be limited to those with a one-level lower authorization than the one
who is currently logging in the system (for further details about authorization levels , please refer to “13.8
Authorization set”).
Staff code The numbers for staff identification (to be used when logging in)

If forgotten, let staff with a higher level log in and change the forgotten
password to another one.
Validity term / Unlimited Tick the box, if there is no limited term to use the card issuing system
and the sub-master card.
Validity term / Finish date When the finish date passes, the sub-master card stops working and
logging in to the card issuing system with the staff code will become
impossible
Time / Start - Finish The time zone of the day in which access with the card is granted.
Validity term / the day of The days of the week on which access with the card is granted.

Level Different levels can be set from at 1 to 500. It is recommended that
each single staff member be given a different level for a smoother
rectification in case of card lost or theft.
Authorization type Authorization types can be set differently by staff to limit their access
level to the management card issue menus, etc.
Card issue / MA Tick the boxes for the staff who issue authorization (MA) cards.
Card issue / MS Tick the boxes for the master (MS) cardholders.
When issuing MS cards, the eligible staff will be displayed.
Card issue / SMS Tick the boxes for sub-master (SMS) cardholders.
When issuing SMS cards, the eligible staff will be displayed.
DTU operation Tick the boxes for the DTU operators.
Eligible staff will be displayed in the DTU user list menu.
* If the sub-master card issue has been set to be “No staff designation”, any sub-master related
menus will not be displayed.
(1) Addition
To register one new room
* Use “Bundle setting (F5)” to register multiple rooms at one time.
1. Room No.
Select the desired range such as 101 – 120.
2. Common items
Floor No., room type, special rooms are to be all in common in the same range.
3. Set
Close this screen and get back to the list display
* Room numbers are to be set for room names.
* If there are already-registered rooms, new ones will be written over them.
Use the scrawl bar to move the screen image sideways to see the hidden information.

(2) Addition(F1)
To add new SMS group
The following settings will be required
Validity term Type in the duration in which access should be granted.
When “with staff designation” is selected, validity term will vary
depending upon the staff information.
Room / All Access will be granted to all the guest rooms
Room range 1,2 Input the room range in which access should be granted.
If only the “Start” is input, the access will be granted only for that one
room.
Special room / All Access will be granted to all the special rooms
Special room Tick the special rooms to which the access should be granted.
Non-guest room / All Access will be granted to all the non-guest rooms
Non-guest room Tick the non-guest rooms to which the access should be granted.
Individual set To display the “Individual set” menu screen
- 1. Addition
Select “Addition (F1)” to add a new free command.
- 2. Free command select
Select “Room No.”, “Room range”, “Room type” and “Floor”.
- 3. Addition/Deletion select
The free commands are to be checked from the top to lower ones one by one to
determine if the specified rooms should be accessible or not.
1.Addition “Room 101- 103”
2.Deletion “Room 102”
If set like this, accessible rooms will be two rooms:”101 and103”.
- 4. Value input
Type in values for necessary commands respectively (such as room No., room
type, floor, etc.).

【Countermeasures】
In case of having trouble with the server unit, change the designation of the secondary client unit to the “server”
status. Other client units in the system will automatically recognize the secondary unit as a new server. When the
secondary unit setting change has been completed, normal operations will be resumed.
