2021 Family Medicine In Service Training Examination (FITE)


General Guidelines

The examination is designed to measure the knowledge, diagnostic reasoning, clinical decision
making and diagnostic skills expected of a Family Medicine in training. The activity will tackle
various cases that are commonly seen by Family Medicine Specialists in the clinic or hospital
set up ranging from practical problems to completed cases. This exercise will also evaluate the
competencies of the Foundation Courses which served as the main curriculum of the training
program.

We are still conducting a virtual/online written examination. This year, we include the Patient
centered, Family focused and Community oriented approach both in the written and oral
examination. This has been designed for the examinees to experience a more family medicine
approach in their practice.

1. Who can take the FITE?


a. All FM residents are eligible to take the examination.
b. The examination is a requirement for senior residents (2nd year and up).
c. Certified Family Physicians and graduates of the CME track are also encourage
to take the examination.
d. All PAFP members who are interested to participate as part of their self-
assessment and lifelong learning improvement are welcome.

2. When and where to register?


a. Registration is open starting November 15, 2021 until December 10, 2021.
b. Please email the names of the examinees to helen@thepafp.org once payment
has been done using this account.

3. How much is the registration fee?


a. Registration fee is P300 pesos per examinee.

4. When is the examination date?


a. The written examination will be on December 12, 2021, Sunday from 8:30AM
-12NN.
b. The oral examination (OSCE) will be available starting Monday, December 13,
2021 and the conduct of the exam will be upon the discretion of the institution.
Deadline for submission of OSCE results will be on December 31, 2021.
The examination.

1.Written Examination

i. The written examination is a one time on line examination using a digital


platform approved by the Residency Committee.
ii. It is a 200 multiple choice questions composed mostly of clinical based
questions comprising mostly of clinical analysis and application type of
questions while few items are simple recall type.
iii. Questions may include images, diagram, laboratory results or data that
may simulate actual case scenarios usually encountered by family
physicians in the OPD, ER , wards or community setting.
iv. The blueprint of the written examination is attached in this guidelines.
v. References are from the official family medicine textbooks, latest
clinical practice guidelines and all references uploaded in the PAFP
website.

2. Oral Examination (OSCE)


i. The examination is compose of 6 stations.
Station 1: Patient Centered Case
Station 2: Family Focused Case
Station 3: Community Oriented Case
Station 4: Procedural Skill
Station 5: Teleconsultation
Station 6: EBM
ii. For station’s 1-3, only one case will be presented and the
examinee will answer the case based on the questions
provided.

3. The General conduct.


a. Training institution or local chapter shall provide an examination
area conducive for the conduct of the examination with strong and
stable internet connection.
b. The venue must strictly abide the minimum health protocols
imposed by their respective institutions and local government unit.
c. All examinees must be in the examination site at least 15 minutes
before the examination time.
d. Late examinees are allowed to take examination provided that they
are verified by the RTO and should not be more than 30 minutes late.
e. The RTO and its training team will act as proctors during the
examination.
f. All institutions or chapters will be assigned in a zoom breakout room
during the examination period. Videos must be switched on
including the speaker phone.
g. Examinees who may not be able to come at designated site due to
valid reasons or who are not currently part of a residency program
are allowed to take the examination in their homes provided that they
have another electronic device such as laptop, tablet or smart phones.
One gadget is used for the examination and another gadget will be
used for the virtual monitoring. Surroundings of the examinee must
be visible for monitoring.
h. No other gadget or objects on the examination table.
i. Bladder break maybe allowed but the examinee must be
accompanied by a faculty member.
j. In cases of power failure, natural calamities, disasters, health or
pandemic related concerns, the institution or the examinee must
immediately inform the PAFP secretariat at least 24 hours before the
examination date. A special examination might be granted to the
examinee once a formal approval from the residency committee is
granted. However the score of the examinee will not be included in
the ranking of the top 10 examinees it will only be included in the
institutional ranking.
k. The examinee can no longer change the answers once the “submit”
icon is clicked.
l. Professionalism and integrity in the conduct of examination is an
utmost important. Cheating of any form will never be tolerated.
