UMEMPLOYMATE RATE (PHILIPPINES)

- The Philippines' unemployment rate rose to 8.7% in April 2021, as the country resorted to lockdowns after
failing to lower COVID-19 cases, latest figures from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed on Tuesday,
June 8.
- This translates to 4.14 million Filipinos without jobs amid the worst health and economic crisis in recent
history.
- The latest unemployment rate is higher than the 7.1% recorded in March 2021, which was equivalent to 3.4
million jobless Filipinos.
- National unemployment rate among residents aged 15 and above stood at 7.7% during the month, similar to
May. This is equivalent to 3.76 million jobless Filipinos, higher than the 3.73 million tally in the previous
month.
- The number of underemployed Filipinos, or those looking for more work hours or better job opportunities,
climbed to 6.41 million — up from the record low 5.49 million logged in May. This represents a 14.2%
underemployment rate, higher than the previous month’s 12.3%.

Unemployment rate is recorded at 13.4 percent

 Unemployment rate is estimated at 13.4 percent, higher by 0.3 percentage points compared to 13.1
percent in the first quarter of 2021. As compared to the unemployment rate of 16.7 percent in the same
period last year, it is lower by 3.3 percentage points.

translates to 64.8 percent labor force participation rate.
 Total employed persons in the region for the second quarter were approximately 6.37 million

 Underemployment rate was recorded at 18.6 percent or approximately 1.19 M employed


persons.

DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, THE LOCAL VENDORS ARE ONE OF THE MOST AFFECTED DURING THIS TIME AS THERE
ARE PROTOCOLS TO BE FOLLOWED. IT HAS AFFECTED THEIR SOURCE OF INCOME AS WELL AS THE CULTURE OF LAGUNA
AS THE PRODUCTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET FOR SEVERAL MONTHS.IN ADDITION, PEOPLE TEND TO LEAN
MORE TOWARDS TECHNOLOGY WITH THE CONTINOUS EVER CHANGING OF TRENDS AND ARISING OF MODERNIZATION,
ATTENTION TO CULTURE, HERITAGE AND IDENTITY THROUGH FOOD AND PRODUCTS WERE BEINGS STEPPED ASIDE AS
MOST OF THE VENDORS CAN’T KEEP UP WITH THE FAST PACING OF TECHNOLOGY.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

 TO HELP GENERATE LIVELIHOOD AND INCOME TO THE LOCAL VENDORS AROUND THE AREA.
 TO PROMOTE AND SHOWCASE THE CULTURE, HERITAGE AND IDENTITY OF LAGUNA BY LETTING THE USERS
EXPERIENCE THE CULTURE OF THE SITE.
 TO PROMOTE A HEALTHY WELL BEING FOR THE GUESTS THROUGH FOOD AND ARCHITECTURE

DESIGN CONCEPT

KUBO-A-AYAN IS A CULTURE HUB – PASALUBONG CENTER THAT PROMOTES THE CULTURE, HERITAGE AND
IDENTITY OF LAGUNA IN ORDER FOR THE USERS BOTH LOCAL AND TOURISTS TO EXPERIENCE AND FEEL THE JOY OF THE
PLACE. THE PASALUBONG CENTER WILL HOUSE SOUVENEIR SHOPS TO GENERATE LIVELIHOOD AND INCOME FOR THE
LOCAL VENDORS AS WELL AS TO THE ARTISTS WHO SHOWCASES THEIR TALEND THROUGH CRAFTS AND ARTS. IN ORDER
FOR THE GUESTS TO FULLY EXPERIENCE THE CULTURE OF LAGUNA, THE HUB WILL ALSO HAVE A MINI
FACTORY/WORKSHOP OF THE CREATION OF THE SPECIAL DELICACIES SUCH AS BUKO PIE, BUKO JAM, UBE HALAYA AND
MORE. YOUNG ARTISTS/LOCAL ARTIST WILL HAVE A SPACE TO SHARE THEIR TALENTS AND WORKS THROUGH
WORKSHOPS AND MINI MUSEUM.

IT AIMS TO CREATE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE LOCALS TO SHOWCASE THEIR IDENTITY AND PROVIDE A
WHOLESOME EXPERIENCE FOR THE LOCALS AND TOURISTS. SINCE THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC FORCES THE PEOPLE TO STAY
AT HOME FOR MONTHS NOW, PEOPLE SEEKS A SPACE TO BREATHE, WHICH IS WHY ASIDE FROM THE CULTURE HUB, A
COMMUNITY PARK IS PROVIDED IN ORDER FOR THE USERS TO BE ONE WITH NATURE. WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL IS THAT,
THIS PARK IS ELEVATED IN SOME PARTS WITH THE CONSIDERATION OF FLOODING, ESPECIALLY DURING RAINY SEASONS.
GUESTS AND LOCAL VENDORS CAN STILL OPERATE EVEN WITH RAIN.
