Anong courses or strands ba dapat ang i-offer ng school sa community natin?

(What do you think are the courses or strands that should be offered in our
community?)

Mr. Marion Joseph Aguinaldo

Mr. Marion Joseph Aguinaldo is a 3rd year BS Psychology student in Ateneo de Manila
University. He is also one of my friends since elementary and grew up in the same
community as mine. When I asked him on what courses or strands should be offered in
our community, he said that “They should make Tech-Voc strands prevalent. Some
families in smaller towns (e.g. Bamban) cannot afford university education. Therefore,
Tech-Voc strands can provide them the skills and opportunities necessary for jobs that
don't require a degree.”
Ms. Mary Shalom Bacani
Ms. Mary Shalom Bacani is a 4th year BS Medical Technology student at Angeles
University Foundation. She is my cousin and we live in the same community. According
to her, “In our community, various strands should be offered to cater the needs of the
students such as GAS, STEM, ABM, HUMSS, TECHVOC. It will be convenient for
students as these will be just few minutes from their home without compromising the
quality education they need. Also, other students from other areas may transfer in our
community especially if the school is known for its excellence and core values.”
Mr. Adrianne Emmanuel Bacani
Mr. Adrianne Emmanuel Bacani is currently a Grade 10 student at Sto. Nino Academy,
Bamban Tarlac. He is now preparing to enter Senior High School in this next coming
school year. According to him, “Ang mga course or strand na maaaring ioffer sa aming
paaralan.”
Mr. John Vincent Vital
Mr. John Vincent Vital is a 3rd year BS Electrical Engineering student at Holy Angel
University. He is one of my closest friends and lives in the same community with me.
He stated that, “I think the strands that should be offered in our community are
HUMMS, STEM, ABM, Tech Voc, and GAS. Since there are some state universities here
in the Philippines that provide free college programs, I think they should focus more on
the HUMMS strand. For example, a student in our community under the HUMMS strand
wants to take a degree in education. In our community, there are a lot of public schools
where he can apply for a job after he graduates from college. He doesn’t even have to
worry about going to distant places to look for a school that he can apply to if he does
not want to be separated from his family.”
Mr. Angelo Guilas
Mr. Angelo Guilas is a 3rd year BS Civil Engineering student at Tarlac State University.
He is one of my closest friends and live in the same community as mine. According to
him, “The schools in our community should offer various different strands mainly ABM,
STEM and HUMSS since these three strands cover most of the possible courses that
students may take when they apply for tertiary education.”

Reflection:
With the current state of our community, which is not that civilized unlike nearby
communities, the schools and colleges only offers limited strands and courses that
students may choose from. Therefore, making the students find other schools and
universities from different places.
Most of my interviewees emphasizes on making the common strands such as
HUMMS, STEM and ABM to be readily available within our community so that students
should not rely on going to places far away from our community for the sake of
education. One also suggested to make Tech-Voc programs available for those students
that cannot afford university education since it helps the students acquire skills that can
be applied in jobs that do not necessarily require a degree.
Overall, thy all agree that having various strands available to students increases
the chance of them to be prepared in whatever course they may take in college. It will
also benefit the students in saving time and energy by not traveling far away from our
community just to study.
