MOBILE PHONE ART & COMPUTER - GENERATED IMAGES

BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR LEARNERS:

Digital cameras capable of taking videos are

everywhere these days, they are built into tablets,
laptops, and even mobile phones. These cameras are a
boon to many ordinary photographers. They are
pocket- sized, light, and compact. They are ready when
and where you need them the most. The best camera
is the one that is with you—you "take anywhere your
phone camera."
The mobile phone that you constantly hold has
evolved from a mere communication tool, to a creative
device that allows you to generate original works of art
for an entire range of purposes. Fortunately, mobile phone cameras have come a long way from the first cameras
built into feature phones. No doubt. many people remember the terrible photos and videos they took blurry, low-
resolution pictures that were ridden with noise, and smeary videos barely tell one person from another.

The improvements in the quality of what is offered come nonstop in some phones (better lenses, high-
capacity storage, and higher resolutions). Whichever creative and production processes are used, camera phones
can now— through the evolution of technology—achieve professional, high-quality results never possible. Mobile
phones have built-in digital screens that offer instant playback, adjustment. and review of captured images and
videos.
Here are some programs and applications that run on today’s devices:

Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI) is the creation of

still or animated visual content with computer
software. In its broadest sense, a computer-generated
image (CGI) can be defined as any image that is
created with the use of a computer-based processor
or Program Because computers nowadays are so
widely used, these images are therefore remarkably
pervasive—from billboard advertisements to film
productions and photography. CGI most commonly
refers to the 3D computer graphics used to
create characters, scenes and special effects in
films, television, and games. The technology is
also used in everything from advertising,
architecture, engineering, virtual reality and
even art.
CGI is used extensively these days
because it is often cheaper than physical
methods which rely on creating elaborate
miniatures, hiring extras for crowd scenes, and
most commonly for when it is simply not safe
or humanly possible to create the visuals. CGI
is created using a range of different methods.
The use of algorithms can produce complex
fractal p patterns. 2D pixel-based image editors
can create vector shapes. 3D graphics software
can create everything for simple primitive
shapes to complex forms made from flat
triangles and quadrangles. 3D software can
even simulate the way light reacts to a surface
and generate particle effects.
Where CGI starts to get exciting is
when computer-generated imagery is layered
into digital film footage using a technique
known as compositing. This technique is
becoming more familiar to people as often
referred to as green screen.

If you want to create original images from scratch, you can make your own illustrations using specialized
programs for image generation and manipulation. Examples of these would-be Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw.
These are, however, designed to run on desktop computers and laptops, so you would need to have access to these
larger and more complex devices. There are scaled-down versions of such programs specifically developed for use
on smaller, handheld units like your personal tablet or android phone. These enable you to perform virtually all the
tasks that a program like Illustrator performs but, almost literally, in the palm of your hand. Many of these come at a
fraction of the cost of the more complex programs or, in some cases, even for free.
Among such programs are:
• Gimp (GNU Image Manipulation Program)
• Paint.net
• Inkscape
• Xara Extreme
• Artweaver
• Draw Plus
• Pencil
• Picasa
• Paint Star
• Smooth Draw
• Spray
• Karbon
• Adobe Photoshop Express
• Corel PaintShop Pro X5
