Hypothesis

To determine the level of stress of students due to academic pressure, the following hypothesis were
formulated and stated:

* Academic pressure affects the level of students' level of stress


* academic pressure is higher on students in the higher level or grade.
* Academic pressure on female students is higher as compared to male students.

Assumptions

* This study aims to determine the level of stress of high school students due to academic pressure or
performance and whatever the results that will be revealed in this study will benefit certain groups and the
benefit that they may be able to gain are as follows:

To the students: They will be able to utilize this study to be knowledgeable at which level of stress they are
in, and to know how and when thay are already facing stress. students will be able to make themselves aware of
what is to be done in order not to experience stress, and be able to help others cope with same problem.

To the school administrators: They will be gaining informations about the problems being encountered by
students and as a result, they will be doing some necessary actions to address this problem.

To the future researchers: The findings of this study will serve as a basis for future studies related to
academic stress. It will be a good source of accurate and useful information for them. And they may extend the
the prior knowledge or information% given, and would like to deepen the study about academic pressure on
students.

Definition of Terms:

Academic performance - is mainly a function of students' study habits referring to the students' way of study
whether systematic, efficient or inefficient.
- it is the single indicator of the quality of time a student spent at school (Abid,2006)

Academic stress- it is a part of life and can impact the students' coping strategies in accordance with the
demands of academic life. This is because academic work is always accomplished with stressful activities.
( Agola and Ongori 2009)
- it is the tension, biological and psychological relating to the amount of works and pressure
given by the academic life as perceived by the students.
Academic performance- this refers to the general weighted average of students who are enrolled in SPCIS high
school department.
