TASK 3. What is it?

News is noteworthy information about current events printed in newspapers or broadcasted by

the media. News can be composite, in-depth or investigative.
Investigative news aims discover and uncover the truth about a certain subject, person, or event
such as but not limited to serious crimes, corruption or corporate wrongdoing. (Wikipedia)
In-depth news intends to dig far below the surface. It does intensive research and rigorous
investigation into an issue. In-depth news covers and explores one aspect of a story, more often than
not, focusing on elements of HOW and WHY. It goes beyond simple facts and include background
information.
Both in depth and investigative news demand a lot of research. Many news writers follow the
Wall Street Journal writing model.
On the other hand, investigative news story is longer and consumes more time than in depth
news. In depth stories come AFTER the news break whereas an investigative story may come as a result
of a TIP and BEFORE the news break of.
Composite news is a combination of two or more news topics put together for the sake of
coherence and space. It is composed of units, each one made of fresh spot news. All the features in a
comprehensive lead must be included in the order of their importance. Next step is to explain and
elaborate in the body each feature in the order in which they are in the lead in order to put the less
important details to less important position. Nevertheless, each unit of facts although covered
separately must be handled as a unified story.

TASK 4. Break It
