1. For the W250 X 167, A36 steel beam with the following properties

W = 167.4 kg/m Axis x – x

A = 21 300 mm2 I = 300 X 106 mm4
d = 289 mm S = 2080 X 103 mm3
bf = 265 mm r = 119 mm
tf = 31.8 mm Axis y - y
tw = 19.2 mm I = 98.8 X 106 mm4
S = 746 X 103 mm3
r = 68.1 mm
Find the allowable bending stress if unsupported length is 3m.

2. An axially loaded concrete column carries a factored load of Pu equal to 2100 Kn, If Fy is
280 MPa and F’c is 21 MPa, design the column as a square tied column and as a spiral column

3. Solve for the maximum force P which the fish plate connection shown could carry if
allowable stress are the ff: 150MPa for tension, 300 MPa for bearing of plates and 105 MPa for
shearing of rivets. Note: rivets are 20 mm diameter: plates are 12 mm thick.

4. A W – shape section having the properties shown below is used as a purlin having a
simple support at its end with the bottom flange resting on top of two angular top chords of
a roof trusses is 6m. The purlin is supported laterally by sag rods placed at third points of
the purlins running to the ridge purlins. A uniform load of 1300 N/m is acting normal to the
top flange of the purlins and a vertical uniform load of 2350 N/m including the weight of
purlins ia acting at the centroid of the purlins.
PROPERTIES:
A = 3338mm2
Sx = 220 x 103 mm3
tѠ = 5mm
ry = 21 mm
tf = 10.63 mm sagrods

rx = 81.5 mm
Iy = 1.48x 106 mm4
Ix = 22.23 x 106 mm4
d = 200 mm
Ø 1
