Desktop Publishing is designing high quality publications with a variety
of layouts, text, shapes and pictures. Some types of publications are:
Posters, Cards, Calendars, Brochures, etc. In desktop publishing
programs, text and images are placed in separate boxes called Frames.
These frames can be moved around the page and placed in suitable
positions very easily. Therefore, a desktop publishing program is more
suitable for designing publications than a word processing program.

Some Basic Tools in Desktop

Publishing:
• Text Box Tool – This is used to insert
text frames or text boxes for entering text
in publications.

WordArt Tool – This is used to add artistic

text to a publication.

Picture Frame –This is used to insert to a

publication clip art from the clip art gallery as
well as pictures saved in a file on the computer

Shapes Tool – This tool is used to insert

shapes e.g. triangle, square, star, etc. into a
