Exploring the effectiveness of press conferences as a governmental public

relations tool used by the Supreme Committee in Oman During Covid-19

pandemic.

Introduction to Methodology:

Methodology consists of methods and techniques used to test any findings of the data. In this
chapter all the decision taken by the researcher with proper procedures are with clear goals and
understandings are discussed. Objectives of methodology is how the researcher testify the data
and findings and how the researcher focus on the sample size with proper techniques to conclude
the fact that is best suited for the research.

Research Questions:

The main purpose of the collection of research is to study the questions regarding the topic that
needs to be tested. In this topic press conference is the meeting help by the government officials
regarding the spreading Covid-19 in Oman and how they effectively relate their issues to the
general public so that a clear understanding could be made. But there are many questions that
will nullify the research in different ways to criticize the fact so that it can be tested. So, the
research question regarding to the government public relations could possibly be: [ CITATION
Twi19 \l 2057 ]

1. Which useful procedures government is taking to make government public relations

strong?
2. What are the measures taken by the government in the Covid-19 Pandemic control?
3. Which regulations are suitable for the sultanate of Oman in terms of controlling Covid-19
Spread?
4. Which strategies suit best for implementing all these methods effectively.

All these questions are related to the enhancement of relations between government and public.
The trust of public is the basic requirement in return of this conference.

1
Hypothesis:

Hypothesis is the proposed explanation on some basis of reasoning or evidence. Some hypothesis
statement relating to the research are:

1. Good public and government relations are based on the clarification of facts in the press
conference.
2. The gap between government promises and actions always related far from each other.
3. If the proper guidelines suggested in conference by government and followed by public
then Covid-19 spread could be reversed. [ CITATION Dua20 \l 2057 ]

Research Method/Design:

Research methods are the tools and design of the process to find the right information that suits
best according to the situation. There are two methods we follow in researching the suitable
answer of the questions. The methods can be of primary or secondary types and for the collection
but because of first-hand data we used primary data collection method of questionnaire in which
proper sequential questionnaire has been prepared to make it easier for the participants to
answer. [ CITATION OCo20 \l 2057 ]

The questionnaire can be distributed to the general public of middle-aged group who can really
have concerns with the government. The research questions ask individual about the trust and
responsiveness of government on the words they said at the press conference. Do they believe
that the government is taking suitable measures to prevent Covid-19 in Sultanate of Oman? If
yes then how much do they think this method will continue for the betterment of Oman
economy.

Population, Sampling and Data Collections:

To choose the right person for the data collection is always been difficult and for this research
when many people don’t even know about the public relations between government of people
even means. Though a handsome number of sample size was gathered. Some of the people
Participated voluntarily in the survey that consists of 8 questions. The topic was related to the
general public so everyone in the country can participate but we only gathered the data from the
size of 70 people as it is enough for our suitable data collection size. Moreover, the specific

2
collection of some data was our selected respondents from the areas that are highly educated like
school staff, media persons and some Civil servants of the country to balance the equation for
every circle so that we can say surely, we collected the right data from every perspective.

Tools for Data analysis:

After the collection of the data from our selected and voluntary participations of people the
perfect analysis has to be taken so that the findings can be perfectly focused on the topic. As we
all know there would be a completely different perception of the people who participated so it
will give us the hard time to organize them and analyze them very accurately. We can use
different data recording software’s to arrange the data and present the result in the form of charts,
tables, figures or statistical analysis ratios. This will make the data more presentable and can be
used in other suitable platforms in front of media or people so that their perspective can also be
changed to the most agreed upon fact collected from our questionnaire data and can prove others
wrong about their thinking’s by showing the majority thoughts from our collected data.

Ethical Consideration:

Ethics are the values and norms that differentiate us from animals and in this regard, we have to
put aside our own thinking’s and beliefs and come up to the point of agreement of majority
people collected from the data. There are more ethical concerns that have to be followed by us
and that’s the personal information of the respondents that have to be remained confidential and
no one can see each other’s information because of the involvement of government side in the
questionnaire. We will make sure that the data we collected from the individuals or persons must
be placed where no one can reach and it would only be reached by us. In this way the trust and
satisfaction of the respondents will stay with us and they will support us in future as well to help
us to do even more bigger analysis and present our findings. [ CITATION Wil18 \l 2057 ]

All these steps are included in finding the research objectives and doing the research from the
people. Research is not the purpose of making decisions against the authorities rather its
methodology and its analysis makes its easier to collect data from majority and be a one voice
together for a fact.
