Difference between metals and non metals

METAL NON METAL

• Shiny metals such as copper, silver, and gold are • Non-metal is the basic requirement of life. Oxygen is
often used for decorative arts, jewelry, and coins inhaled while breathing
• Example : copper: copper is used from coins to pipes. • Non metals may be solid, liquid or gas.
Copper is used in electric wires because it conducts
electricity • Non meals which are solid are britle.
• Strong metals such as iron and metal alloys such as • Non metals do not have metallic lusture but
stainless steel are used to build structures, ships, and some have a dull lusture.
vehicles including cars, trains, and trucks.
• The non metallic minerals industry is best
• Iron, copper and aluminium metals are used in the known for the production of cement, ceramics,
making of house-hold utensils and factory equipment
glass and lime products.
• Copper and aluminium metals are used in the making
of electric wires, as they have very low electrical
resistance and good electric conductivity.
NON METAL
GLASS
Glass is used in the following non-exhaustive list of
products: Packaging (jars for food, bottles for drinks, flacon for
cosmetics and pharmaceuticals) Tableware (drinking glasses,
plate, cups, bowls) Housing and buildings (windows, facades,
conservatory, insulation, reinforcement structures)
NON METAL
DIAMOND
• Diamonds are used in jewellery.
• Diamonds is used in industrial purposes to cut glass and other hard
material.
• Diamonds are used to replace silcon in computer.
• The use of diamonds in high-end speakers.
NON METAL
OXYGEN
• Common uses of oxygen include production of steel, plastics
and textiles, brazing, welding and cutting of steels and other
metals, rocket propellant, oxygen therapy, and life support
systems in aircraft, submarines, spaceflight and diving.
METAL
COPPER
• Most copper is used in electrical equipment such as wiring
and motors. This is because it conducts both heat and
electricity very well, and can be drawn into wires. It also has
uses in construction (for example roofing and plumbing), and
industrial machinery (such as heat exchangers).
ALUMINIUM
• Aluminium is used in a huge variety of products including cans,
foils, kitchen utensils, window frames, beer kegs and
aeroplane parts. This is because of its particular properties.
LEAD
• Lead is still widely used for car batteries, pigments,
ammunition, cable sheathing, weights for lifting, weight belts
for diving, lead crystal glass, radiation protection and in some
solders. It is often used to store corrosive liquids.
