BETM 2333 – Hydraulic & Pneumatic Technology

Sem 2 - 2015/2016
Tutorial 1

1. At a velocity of 3 m/s, how many m3/s of fluid will flow through a 0.10-m inside
diameter pipe?
2. The kinematic viscosity of a hydraulic oil is 0.0001 m2/s. If ut us flowing in a 30-mm
diameter pipe at a velocity of 6 m/s, what is the Reynolods number? Is the flow
laminar or turbulent?
3. A pump having a 96% volumetric efficiency delivers 29 Lpm of oil at 1000 rpm. What
is the volumetric displacement of the pump?
4. A pump has a displacement volume of 98.4 cm3. It delivers 0.00152 m3/s of oil at
1000 rpm and 70 bars. If the prime mover input torque is 124.3 N.m,
a. What is the overall efficiency of the pump?
b. What is the theoretical torque required to operate the pump?
5. A steel tube of 25-mm ID has a burts pressure of 50 Mpa. If the tensile strenght is 397
MPa, find the minimum acceptable OD.
6. Air is used at a rate of 1.0 m3/min from a receiver at 40 °C and 1000 kPa gage. If the
atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa abs and the atmospheric temperature is 20 °C, how
many standard m3/min of free air must provided by the compressor?
