Assignment 8:

Ethical dilemmas of Robotics

1. What are the ethical dilemmas posted by robotics?
Answer:
Asimov's three laws only address the problem of making robots safe, so even if we could
find a way to program robots to follow them, other problems could arise if robots became
sentient.

• If robots can feel pain, should they be granted certain rights?

• If robots develop emotions, as some experts think they will, should they be
allowed to marry humans? Should they be allowed to own property?

2. Which among the instruments for human rights-based approach to science, technology
and, development discussed in this section may be useful in contending with the ethical
dilemmas of robotics?
Answer:
Since the instruments may seem theoretical in nature to address such issues, the
potential to solving this certain dilemma is worth to consider. The three laws mentioned
might seem like a good way to keep robots from harming people. But to a robotics they
pose more problems than they solve

3. How can the instrument inform lawyers and ethicist and engineers and scientist in
answering the moral and legal questions raised by the development in robotics?
Answer:
The instrument itself will be able to inform them what needs to be done and what
questions should be answered especially the moral and legal ones because each
decision they make will affect us. If they make a single wrong step, it could cause us a
massive destruction.
