JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Gas Supervisor

Responsible to: Operations Manager

Responsible for: Gas Serving, Maintenance and installation Engineers

Main Purpose of Job

Supervise a team of gas engineers responsible for delivering a high quality and cost effective
facilities, gas servicing, installation and maintenance service across Devon and Cornwall.

Principal Tasks and Duties

• The job holder will supervise operational staff who are undertaking allocated repairs,
renewals and other associated works to ensure they work within agreed timescales and
to the required standard.

• Prepare heating designs for quotation and installation.

• Be first point of contact where problems and issues arise and take responsibility to
resolve them with operational staff.

• Use your broad trade skills to undertake quality control to ensure that the most
effective solutions are being utilised.

• Be responsible for maintaining stocks of materials, ensuring accurate records are kept
of both usage and requisitions and authorising requisitions within budgets.

• Ensure that health and safety issues are communicated effectively and promoted within
your area of responsibility and that staff fully understand their responsibilities for and
fulfil their duties in accordance with the Group policy and procedures.

• Operate within the appropriate health and safety regulations ensuring the working
environment, property and occupants are safe and secure at all times.

• Supervise the carrying out of construction, fault fixing and maintenance duties in
accordance with contract and service specifications.

• Assist in the recruitment, performance management and development of quality staff to


ensure required skilled staff are available to fulfil contracts.
• Carry out installation, fault fixing and maintenance duties, specifically but not limited to
commercial boilers.

• Timely completion of allocated duties within contract specifications, effective cover of


duties in place within the team(s)

• Manage resources effectively ensuring tools and equipment are maintained by staff and
stock requests are within agreed budget.

• Prepare quotation and tender documentation as required to meet customer


expectations and to win new business where appropriate.

This is not an exhaustive list and other duties requiring similar skill levels may be required.

Management of Staff
• Provide support and supervision to the Gas team to ensure effective development and
performance.

• Ensure staff training and development needs are established through the appraisal and
review processes.

• Promote continual review and improvement of services by creating an environment in


which staff are encouraged to use their initiative and creativity for the benefits of
customers.

• Carry out monthly tool box talks, one to one meetingsand annual appraisals

Out of Hours Service


Participate in an emergency ‘out of hours’ service as required.

Health and Safety


Be responsible for the care and condition of all vehicles, plant tools and equipment issued
to or used by the post holder, completing all related pre use or scheduled safety
inspections as required.

Ensure that all necessary documentation and/or verbal reports relating to unsafe equipment
are immediately communicated to their line manager, advising the line manager of any
defects requiring repair, and to ensure that the equipment is stored or made safe in such a
way as to not be used by a third party.

Work to operational procedures, safe working practices and Health and Safety procedures
and approved codes of practice as appropriate.

Attend safety meetings, training and briefings as may be required.

Be responsible for completing dynamic risk assessments when arriving at site, checking that
the safety of themselves and/or others will not be compromised by completing the task.
Ensure that all accident, near miss events or potential hazards are reported to their line
manager immediately.

Ensure that work areas are kept in a safe condition whilst the work is being carried out and
that the area is made safe at the end of the day.

Other Duties
Complete and sign off worksheets, time sheets, vehicle inspection forms, warning notices
and any other forms as required by Westward Property Services.

Carry out responsibilities with due regard for Westward Equality & Diversity requirements
Attend training as required

Provide general support and assistance to the operations manager as required

Carry out any other duties as reasonably required by the Operations Manager.

Purpose of a Job Description

NORTH DEVON
Westward Property Services, based in Bideford, is a rapidly expanding building maintenance
and refurbishment contractor operating across Devon and Cornwall.

3. Salary OTE* £32,000 per annum
4. Hours of Work 40 hours per week to include occasional
evening weekend and bank holiday working
5. Out of Hours You will be required to be part of the out of
hours on call service on a rota basis

7. Pension Scheme A contributory staff pension scheme is

10. Car Mileage The Group sets its own car mileage rates.
Currently the amount payable is aligned with
the Inland Revenue rate of 45p per business
