A LIVE SPORT MATCH THAT YOU WATCHED
Describe a live sport match that you watched
You should say:
What it was
When you watched it
What it was like
And how you felt about it
ANSWER
Home team >< visiting team
Dribble v rê bóng, để chảy nhỏ giọt dunk nhả bóng vào rổ , score a goal ghi bàn
The crowd brought the roof down when the home team scored reo hò cuồng nhiệt
Everybody Shouted and cheered
The audiences /spectators was at fever pitch phấn khích cực điểm
There is a hush in the crowd lặng đi
Players get very tensed up before the match
The match was thrilling
Catch the score on the game
We waited with a bated breath for the final results
I wanna be honest with you, never in my life have I got the opportunity to watch a professional
live sport. That's because I can't afford to buy a single ticket for any professional live sports
match. Although I'm making money off my part-time work, spending it on a live sports match isn't
reasonable for me.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Professional sport [noun] – sports in which athletes receive payment for
their performance Reasonable [adj.] – practical
And because of that, I'll just talk about the annual sports festival that my alma mater trường cũ
holds every summer. Last summer, I had the chance to watch a women's volleyball match
between the engineering students and fashion designing students in that university. I was
actually invited by one of my former classmates who is now working as an admin staff in the
said university.
I'm not a big fan of volleyball since I'm more into basketball but because I wanted to catch up
with my friend since we hadn't seen each other for quite some time, I said yes to his invitation
without a second thought. Well, I didn't expect anything because like I said, that sport isn't my
cup of tea.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Alma mater [noun] – the university, college, or school that one formerly
attended Catch up [phrase] – to talk to someone whom one has not seen for some time Cup of tea
[idiom] – something one prefers
During the game, the stadium was crowded, well, the majority were university students who
showed their enthusiastic and overwhelming support to the respective teams. When the game
started, the crowd went crazy, cheering their team, and singing their jingle for the team they
are supporting, to motivate the volleyball players. As a result, I couldn't help myself but get
excited as well, maybe because of the crowd's energy. The positive energy was truly contagious!
LEXICAL RESOURCE Stadium [noun] – an athletic or sports ground with tiers of seats and
spectators Jingle [noun] – a short slogan, verse, or tune designed to be remembered Can't help
oneself [phrase] – to be unable to control one's action Contagious [adj.] – spreads quickly among
people
The two strong teams were enthusiastically playing that made the audience go wild. You can
imagine how deafening chói tai the noise in the stadium. The first game was won by the
engineering students, however, in the second game, it was won by the fashion designing team. That
was a very entertaining game which I had never thought I could be so entertained. The third game
was the craziest, I mean, I could feel the tension between the two teams and at the same time their
respective supporters.
My friend and I were really having a great time watching until my phone rang. I got an urgent call
from my boss asking me to see him at the soonest possible time since there was a serious
problem in the office that required my expertise. I felt devastated as I needed to leave my friend
in the middle of our excitement.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Go wild [idiom] – to become very excited or enthusiastic Deafening [adj.]
– very loud Tension [noun] – pressure; stress Expertise [noun] – expert skill; a special skill
Devastated [adj.] – very upset
PART 3
Do you think children should be involved in sports competitions?
Personally yes, because through sports competitions children will learn the importance of
discipline and sportsmanship. They will learn discipline since they have to undergo some types
of training before competing with others such as physical training for endurance, mental skills
training to strategize the game, and emotional skills training to make them learn how to manage
their own emotions. Besides, when children join sports competitions, they will understand the
value of sportsmanship that is giving respect to other sports players, especially their opponents,
and having good relationships with them. So, by making children join some sports competitions,
they will surely develop a character that is admirable.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Sportsmanship [noun] – fair and generous behavior or treatment
Endurance [noun] – the ability to endure an unpleasant or difficult process Opponent [noun] – rival
What kind of sports competitions do people watch in your country?
The king of sports is football, patriotism, local= home team
Without a doubt, it's a basketball competition and boxing! It's because these two sports are the
most popular sports in our country. People in our country are passionate about basketball
because most of us are fanatics of the NBA. Men, somehow dream to be like one of those
basketball stars. Also, boxing is a sport that people can't resist watching, I believe it's because of
excitement. Watching a boxing match is full of emotions – one can't help himself but somehow feel
affected by what they see on TV. It feels like the viewer is the one playing. Honestly, when there's a
boxing match, we will postpone running errands so we can't miss the match. That's how
dedicated we are to that sport.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Can't help oneself [phrase] – unable to control one's action Run errands
[phrase] – to go out to buy or do something
Why do some people like to watch live sports? *****
Watch with bated breath hồi hộp theo dõi trận đấu
enjoy the electric and exciting atmosphere in a stadium
see sports stars playing before their very eyes
interact with other fans
I'm not sure about it since I've never tried watching live sports, well except when I was a
student. But I have never tried watching professional live sports yet. I think some people love it
because of the experience. They can see sports stars playing before their very eyes which is
more entertaining than watching them on TV. Also, I suppose they enjoy the electric and
exciting atmosphere in a stadium or a field because they can cheer their favorite team, and
interact with other sports fans. Those things can never be experienced when one is just watching
the game on TV.
Do you prefer to watch live sports or watch them on TV? meet like-minded people
As I've said, I've never had an opportunity to watch a live sport yet, so I can't compare the two.
However, I may prefer watching sports live because I like the idea of shouting or cheering the
team or players whom I'm idolizing. I think that's really fun! Besides, I want to meet new people
whose interest is the same as mine. I believe it's great to meet like-minded people as it helps
widen my perspective on life.

Describe an article on health you read in magazines or the internet
You should say:
What it was
When you read it
Why you read it
And explain what you learned from it
A N S W E R Lately there has been a huge buzz all over the internet about the keto diet among
the health advocates, gym instructors, and those who are eager to lose weight, that early this
year it became the talk of the town and the most searched word phrase in Google. Because I
don't want to feel that I'm missing out on something, out of curiosity, I educated myself about
what that keto diet was and why everyone was talking about it.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Buzz [noun] – a general excitement about or interest of someone or
something Advocate [noun] – a person who publicly supports a cause or policy Talk of the town
[expression] – a person or a thing that everyone in a town or city is talking about in an
interesting way Out of curiosity [phrase] – to show that you are interested in knowing something
TIP i.) The speaker developed his introduction in a creative way, instead of just saying "I'd like to
talk about…". He gave his answer right away and described the craze of the keto diet among
different kinds of people. By doing that, he already used some good topic vocabulary words. Then,
after that, he talked about his curiosity about that diet and expressed his interest in learning that diet.
Upon searching on Google search, I was directed to a website that provides informative
articles about living a healthy life, which is called Healthline. If I remember it correctly, the
title is The Ketogenic Diet: A Detailed Beginner's Guide To Keto. The article was substantially
long and took me almost 10 minutes to finish reading.
Right after reading the article, I was enlightened why everyone went crazy about the keto diet
that even local celebrities in my country are continuously promoting that kind of diet. Well, what
I learned from that article is that the keto diet is the drastic reduction of carbohydrate intake and
the replacement of carbohydrates with fat, the reduction of carbohydrate puts a person's body in
a metabolic state called ketosis. In other words, it is a low-carb, high-fat diet.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Keto diet [noun] – a kind of diet that practices low carbohydrates and high
fat Substantially [adv.] – considerably Enlighten [verb] – inform Drastic [adj.] – extreme; serious
TIPS i.) SECOND PARAGRAPH: The speaker simply talked about his way of finding the article
and the article itself that he found. He provided the title of the article that he read and this would
serve as his topic vocabulary words.
ii.) THIRD PARAGRAPH: In this part, the speaker started talking about what he learned upon
reading the article. His explanation was coupled with topic vocabulary words that helped him
explain his answer even clearer. By doing that, he showcased his vocabulary knowledge and at the
same time making the examiner understand better. In addition, his explanation here answered one of
the prompts – explain what you learnt from it.
What is more interesting about this diet is the fact that it can cause massive reductions in
blood sugar and it can help a person lose so much weight without counting or tracking one's
calories as opposed to a low-fat diet. Well, anyway, as I'm not a dietician, I could only
understand the basics of it. If I want to give it a shot, I should consult a doctor, or else I might
put my health at risk.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Massive [adj.] – huge Track [verb] – monitor Dietician [noun] – an expert
on diet and nutrition Give it a shot [idiom] – try
TIP i.) The speaker just mentioned supplemental details of the knowledge he acquired from reading
that article. That's a good way to extend his answer a little bit longer. And the last part was his way
to end his story better by using the conditional tense. That's a very good way to wrap up his story.
PART 3 Do you think articles about fitness are generally useful?
Yes they do, as those kinds of articles provide health education to people that can help them
understand the importance of living a healthier life. Most fitness write-ups talk about the effective
ways on how to lose weight, the right number of calories that people should intake, different
exercises that can tone up one's muscles, improving mental health, among others. By reading all
these extremely informative articles, people will be able to develop a lifestyle that is not prone
to acquiring several kinds of diseases. However, it is unfortunate that only a few proportions
of people in the world spend time reading those articles as they are not as appealing as the
entertainment articles that most people get attracted to reading. Well, anyway, to be healthy is
a choice.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Write-up [noun] – another term for article Intake [noun] – an amount of
food, water, or substance taken into the body Tone up [phrasal verb] – to become healthy or
vigorous Appealing [adj.] – attractive; engaging
TIP i.) The speaker gave a direct positive answer to the question and provided his main reason at
once. Then he cited some common examples of health articles and talked about how those articles
influenced people to live a healthy life. By doing that, he's able to provide topic vocabulary words
and express his answer in a more logical way. The last part of his answer acted as a conclusive
statement expressing his disappointment thinking that not a lot of people are interested in reading
those kinds of articles. This conclusion helped him develop a realistic answer.

When scrolling through the internet, most of the time, health-related articles grab my attention the
most. Likewise, this one time I was going through something when I came across an article that
talked about the advantages of drinking hot lemon water in the morning. This article was published
on a website called bodyandsoul.com.au.
Generally, people have a perception of lemon water only keeping the body hydrated during
summers. However, there is a gamut of other benefits that are mostly unknown. As per this article,
building a habit of starting the day with a glass of lemon water does a lot of favour to both the mind
and the body.
First of all, lemon juice is one amazing source of Vitamin C. Hence, it helps in boosting the
immunity to fight common and unusual infections. Not just that, lemons are also good for
combating early ageing signs because of their antioxidant properties. Lemon is useful in detoxifying
the liver and cleaning the urinary tract.
The list of warm lemon water doesn’t end here. Lemons contain a high level of potassium that helps
improve the functioning of the brain and nervous system while simultaneously controlling the levels
of blood pressure.
Lemon water is also helpful in warding off depression and stress, which are the two major things
associated with lower levels of potassium. As a result, this specific article suggested that if you
continue to drink warm, lemon water in the morning for the minimum of 21 days, you will start
noticing major differences to your skin as well as general health.

Topic 48
Sample 1: Describe a puzzle (jigsaw, crossword, etc.) you have played
You should say:
What it is like
How easy or difficult it is
How long it takes you to solve
And how you feel about it
Part 3:
Why do parents let their children play puzzles?
What kinds of puzzles improve people's intelligence?
Why are detective stories attractive to people?
Which do you think is better? A detective movie or its original novel?
I think puzzles are a good way to challenge our brains. Ever since I was a kid, I have enjoyed
solving puzzles.I was always very curious and even used to disassemble and reassemble my toys
just to see how they worked. My whole family used to do the Sunday newspaper crossword puzzle
together. I have also done many jigsaw puzzles and here I would like to talk about one that I did a
few years ago. On my 18th birthday, my friends gifted me a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle. Before that, I
had never solved a puzzle with so many pieces. 100 pieces was the maximum I had done before.
The jigsaw design on the box had a beautiful landscape with mountains in the background and a
lake in front of it. it looked easy but I when I started doing it, I realized it had a lot of tricky
repeating patterns and similar shapes and colors. It was very challenging and after spending 2 hours
on it I was not even halfway done. I was glad I was doing it on a weekend and didn’t have to go to
school that day. I started getting frustrated and at one point I wanted to give it up I took a 30-
minute break and decided to get back on it. The break helped, and I could concentrate better and
do it faster. I finally managed to finish it and in total, it took me about 5 hours to solve it. I felt a
great sense of achievement. I was so happy and showed the finished puzzle to my family. I didn’t
want to break it apart and kept it on my desk for a few days. I redid this puzzle after a few months
and finished it a little faster. I have bought many 500 and more piece’s puzzles after that but instead
of completing them in one day, I like to keep them on my desk and work 20-30 minutes on them
every day.:”
What it is like?
How easy or difficult it is?
How long it takes you to solve it?
And how you feel about it?
Solving puzzles is one of the challenging mental activities. Some masses have an ardent habit of
playing puzzles. There are different genres of puzzles, such as crossword puzzles, word-search
puzzles, number puzzles, relational puzzles, and logic puzzles. I would like to elaborate on one of
my favorite puzzle games, word puzzle, Which I began playing in my childhood.
It is a word game that consists of the letters of words placed in a grid, which usually has a
rectangular or square shape. The objective of this puzzle is to find and mark all the words hidden
inside the box.
It’s a mind-challenging game, it should be able to think deeply in order to create some of the words.
It is a great game, which helps me boost my vocabulary skills. I learn new words and I love the
variety of words used. It is tough to find words quickly as you go ahead, but those words are
actually common.
Nowadays, I don’t have enough time to play this puzzle but in my childhood, It was very
challenging and after spending 30 minutes on it I was not completely done. It took me about 1 hour
to solve it. In those days and I had solved it with great enthusiasm to see my interest developing my
father bought me a word puzzle book with hundreds of puzzles that my sister and I used to solve
every evening.
This game forced us to use our brain more and more and unlike other puzzles, a person never gets
bored of playing this game.
I would say, that is advantageous for every individual to engage themselves in one sort of puzzle
game or other to enhance their mental sharpness and to rejuvenate themselves mentally.
In fact, other than kids, puzzles have been known to be beneficial to just about any group of people
regardless of age, status in life, gender, or nationality.
Follow-ups
1.Why do parents let their children play puzzles?
Parents want their children mentally and physically strong because, with the help of puzzles,
children learn physical skills, cognitive skills, and emotional skills. Moreover, puzzles keep their
minds active and working and beneficial for their overall development.
2.What kind of puzzles improve people’s intelligence?
In the present scenario, there are several kinds of puzzles available which enhance all age groups’
intelligence. Most popular puzzles among kids crosswords, jigsaw, and Sudoku. These all games
are very beneficial for child development.
3. Why are detective stories attractive to people?
I think detective stories are so popular because it enables people to use their imagination and solve
the mystery. Humans have the natural drive to solve problems and detective movies let them do
that.
4.Which do you think is better? A detective movie or its original novel?
I think original novels are much better. Novels don’t have any time limitations and have more
depth. On the other hand, movies need to capture the entire novel in a few hours and some
important parts get left out. Also, novels are mentally stimulating and engage the imagination more
than movies.
Well, solving puzzles is an entertaining activity because people can make themselves relax when
they solve any puzzle, and a puzzle is related to a game, a toy, or a problem. Basically, it tests the
ingenuity or knowledge of a person. It doesn’t mean that only children can play puzzle games; even
elders also play to make themselves more relaxed and stress-free. So here I would like to speak
about a puzzle which I love to play with my daughter, and it is a jigsaw puzzle. It is very
entertaining because there are different types of pieces in this puzzle: regular, irregular, double ears,
and edge.
SPONSERSs
So sometimes it’s tough to put the correct piece in the correct position, and initially, when I started
to play it, I was unable to put the right pieces at the right position, and I can say I spent 1 hour
solving it. Still, during this process, I felt more happy and relaxed as it is considered a more
relaxing and meditative game. So whenever I have free time or at the weekend I play. Now,
whenever I solve any puzzle, then I take very little time instead of that of earlier times.
Puzzles really enhance the creativity and intelligence of a person because when people try to solve
any jigsaw puzzle then, they use their two brains at one time. So people enhance their reasoning,
visual and spatial ability by solving such puzzles.
Follow-ups
1. Is it hard to find quiet places in cities?
2. Why is it quieter in the countryside?
3. Why do people go to quiet places?
4. Compared with young people, do old people prefer to live in quiet places?
5. Why do some people not like quiet places?
6. Do you know other quiet places?
7. Do you need a quiet place when you are working?
8. Why do people like to spend time in quiet places?
9. Do you know anyone who likes noise?
Today, I’m going to share with you a place where I usually/often go to relax/read and write/ hang
out with my friends, which is a small café/restaurant near my company/my house named “ABC”.
As a full-time employee/student, I have to go to work/ school five days a week; therefore, the only
time that I can visit this place is on weekends. I always try to make time for my little trip to “ABC”
café every Saturday or Sunday. The coffee house is located on a quiet street with a lot of trees
planted on both sides. Additionally, it has a patio with hanging gardens which I like very much; it
makes me feel like I’m sitting in a garden of my own.
Far from the hustle and bustle of the city life in Hanoi, this place allows me to sit quietly and
reflect, relaxing after a week of hard work. I can concentrate on a personal project such as reading
or writing in my journal without being interrupted by other people. It serves excellent coffee, tea,
and cakes. Thus, the place always smells very nice. The employees are also friendly and helpful.
Sometimes, I go there with my friends. Over a nice cup of coffee/tea, we share our stories and smell
the beautiful scent of the flowers. At that moment, we can escape from reality for a little while and
enjoy ourselves even more.

Describe a time you were not allowed to use a mobile phone.
You should say:
Sample Answer
In my school, there used to be numerous rules and regulations c1. While everything seemed
acceptable during the junior years, some of the restrictions c2 seemed illogical when I reached
the senior classes. And, one of them was the rule of “bringing no mobile phone under any
circumstances”. Despite the stringent authorities, there were always some rebels trying to bring
in revolution.
When I was in school, cell phones were not extremely popular. However, despite the exorbitant
prices, my parents still got me one. I had to spend a lot of time outside the house because of
school and tuitions c2, so my parents wanted to stay in touch.
Then the principal of our school completely banned a cell phone on the campus as she believed
that such a device was a distraction c1 during the class. Adhering to this rule, I never dared to
take the phone to my school. Even if I did, I switched it off and handed it to the reception or my
class in-charge.
However, some students used to sneak phones into the classroom and create a lot of nuisance,
leaving everybody disturbed c2 and worrisome. As a result of this, the authorities started with
an inspection every morning where everybody’s bags and pockets were checked. And, no doubt,
there were plenty of phones that were being seized each day.
There’s a huge difference between how young and old people use cell phones. Majorly, it is in
terms of frequency. Also, younger generations are adept at using indispensable c2 devices. They
use it for calling, texting and surfing the internet. On the other hand, the older generation only
uses the phones to call somebody or pick the incoming call.
What are the differences between writing a letter and writing a text message on a cell phone?
Well, these are two different concepts. Writing a letter, be it formal or semi-formal, requires b1
an amount of effort and time. Language and punctuation b1 will have to be considered to write
something decent b2 that is easily understood. On the other hand, text messages are exchanged
between known or acquainted c1 people and can get quick replies, unlike letters.
Many people think mobile phones can be annoying b1 at times. Can you give any examples of
that?
Honestly, even I am one of those who find a mobile phone irritating b2 at times. I have never
been a fan of hi-tech devices. Sure, I appreciate them for the development but there are
problems that they create as well. One of the things I don’t like is that during a conversation
with others, people keep checking their phones. It makes me feel offended that the person is not
paying complete attention (collocation).. Another time is when you are in a meeting, a buzzing
phone can be disturbing and unprofessional.
I genuinely prefer a face-to-face conversation as I feel that is a more personal way of talking to
somebody. These days, with mobile phones gaining popularity, people have stopped spending
time with each other and continue neglecting their loved ones. While phones are necessary, they
should not create a hurdle [rào cản] between one another.
Vocabulary for Speaking Part 3
School days were fun and I miss those days very much. However, there was another thing, that I
really liked about my elementary school, which was the periodic art and craft activities. Today, I
would like to describe one such activity that I did as a young elementary school student. There was
a school competition in my school and our teacher asked us to make thread painting during the
weekend.
Since I’d never made a thread painting before, I’d thought it would be a tough task. But it
turned out that with the help of my mother, making a painting was actually just a piece of
cake.
Well, to be frank, my memory fails me and I cannot recall the exact date when I attended the
craft activity but I am sure it must be at the high school. I made a thread painting with the help of a
needle and wool and it was on a cloth. I bought everything ready-made from the market. On the
piece of cloth, I traced all the village scenes. On the one side, there was a well, ladies were getting
water from it. On the other side, farmers were doing work in the field.
It seemed to be arduous work as it took 4 to 5 days to finish it but finally, it turned out to be quite
rewarding. I got first prize and. Our hard work paid off. And my teacher was also very satisfied
with my work and praised me. I felt that this kind of art and craft ideas encouraged me to use the
imagination to create my own entertainment.
Anyway, I felt really great about this particular art and craft activity as I could actually see the
result of my hard works with my own eyes. Besides, this particular activity also allowed me to share
some good laughs and quality time with some of my other fellow students which otherwise
wouldn’t be possible.
Answer 2:
Thank you a lot for this opportunity to let me talk about an art or craft activity I did at school.
School days were fun and I miss those days very much. I enjoyed all the art and craft classes and
activities involved in it. Once I made a book about me and it was an interesting experience to make
a book all by myself and about me. The book contained various interesting information about me
and my family. I also wrote about my friends in the book and added some pictures of them. In the
later stages, the book became the best wealth for me. The cue card questions are standard and I love
answering such smart questions. The answers continue below.
Preparing a book for me was difficult. As a child of seven or eight years old, I was unable to collect
all the things. I needed paper, book design, crayons, markers, photos and obviously some
information about me and my surrounding people placed on the book. My siblings helped me
greatly to collect all the materials and make the work complete. I had to collect information and
images from my friends and parents to fill spaces in the book.
The project was individual, but I took helps from my friends and particularly from my elder brother.
My brother arranged the necessary materials. I asked to bring some coloured papers and he brought
accordingly. Moreover, I asked a friend to collect information about a few other friends. One more
thing to share. It was a time-bound project. The teacher allowed us only a day to complete the
project and submit to her. I was glad to gather everything on time.
I enjoyed making the book and it was fun. I had never made such books or worked in such an art
and craft project. Thanks to the teacher for her endeavour to arrange such an event. In fact, the
entire process made me confident. I felt joy and pride inside me. My book was chosen as the best
among the items submitted by many other students.
More Ideas to talk about this Cue Card topic:
1. I made a Christmas card as part of my art and craft activity in school in Yorkshire in the UK. I
had to collect some specific materials to make the card. I completed the task with the direct
support of my dad.
2. When I was a third-grader at a local school in New York, I made a craft to present in the
school. It was a USA flag. I collected a large piece of cloth and painted the flag. I took help from
my elder sister for this purpose.
3. My School in Pune, India asked to make a craft and I had made two little dolls and made them
traditional Indian attires. I had to collect some small fabrics to make them look like traditional
dresses for females. Without my brother’s support, I think it could not have been possible for me.
4. As a young child of five years, it was truly hard for me to make the Sydney harbour bridge. I
made it using plastics, papers and applied some colour to give it a final shape. My mom assisted
me greatly to complete the bridge and I was appreciated highly in the school.
5. Marking the Canada Day, my school asked students to bring some artworks. I went with a Maple
leaf. It was a large leaf made of plastic and paper. I also used scotch tape and glues. I did it all by
myself and used a large leaf to take the measurement.
6. As a student of sixth grade in my school in the UAE, I made a desert scene, particularly a cactus
in the desert. I used cucumbers, toothpicks, and sands to prepare the craft. I took the idea from my
mother and she also arranged the necessary things to make it happen.
7. New Year celebrations are outstanding in Vietnam and I made a red dragon marking the event
to present at my school. It was a complex process and I needed plastic cups, glues, colourful
wrapping papers and more other things. A cousin helped me complete the project.
8. A hand-fan was the best craft made by me ever. In fact, I made it marking the Chinese New year
Celebration in my primary school. It was made with colourful paper, two sticks, and threads. I got
the idea from my dad and he also helped to stitch the fan.
Sample 3
I’d like to talk about a craft activity I did in elementary school – origami. I guess I don’t need to say
much because origami is already so popular worldwide. It’s the art of paper folding in order to
create a particular object or animal.
It was all the rage in my old school because to do this, you have to be very skillful and patient to
make a beautiful paper figure. It was like a challenge for young kids, you see. I was caught up in
all this hype so I asked my desk mate to show me the ropes. Although he was a boy, he was one of
the best in my class when it came to origami. Anyway, he showed me how to fold the easiest figure
– the crane. It looked so easy when he did it. He told me to just follow the exact steps and I could
create a paper crane. Easier said than done, though, because in the end my crane was misshapen
beyond recognition. I didn’t know what I did wrong. Even when he patiently showed me one more
time, the result wasn’t much better. He finally gave up on me and I was sorely disappointed in
myself.
In retrospect, I think I was too clumsy and careless. I rushed things because I wanted to do it so
badly. But origami isn’t about speed, it requires patience and accuracy. That’s why I admire origami
artists so much. Maybe in the future I might try origami again, but this time I will take my time and
relax more.

India is a diverse country. There are many traditional products in India. We have earthen pots,
ceramic pottery of Jaipur, puppets of Rajasthan, phulkari embroidery of Punjab, hand-knotted
carpets of Srinagar, and many more.
Arts and crafts usually require kids to use both hands in a certain manner, which can help them
develop fine motor skills and bilateral coordination. Moreover, It makes them more creative
and productive as well as helps them develop other skills.
Some people say so because art is interpreted differently by different people. Secondly,
everyone has his or her own interests. Some may like classical music, whereas others may enjoy
folk music. According to my opinion, different people have different interests so that’s why some
masses don’t like art.
4. What can we do to make young people pay more attention to traditional art?
We can organize youth festivals on traditional art. When young people will compete in these,
their interest will be aroused. In addition to this, teachers can also stimulate their interest by
showing them such art through audio-visual aids.
Yes, Talking about art with children provides them with a forum for developing their literacy
and communication skills. They develop their imagination and become more creative.
All forms of art, including sketching or dancing, require and train the perseverance and focus
of a child, making them absolutely essential in enhancing his or her cognitive development. Art
and craft must be an integral part of a school’s ethos whereby a lot of topics and concepts are
learned through art forms.

Social media is a tool that is becoming quite popular these days because of its user-friendly
features. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and more are giving people a
chance to connect with each other across distances.
Last year I watched an interesting video on a social networking website by the name of Instagram.
The video was about a balanced diet is “the key” to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
According to the presenter of the video, having a balanced diet means eating a wide variety of foods
in the right proportions, and consuming the right amount of food and drink to achieve and maintain
healthy body weight.
I saw that he mainly focused on a healthy lifestyle. He said that a combination of a sober and
prudent living style with the soundness of body and mind. Both physical and psychological well-
being is important in order to have a healthy lifestyle. Moreover,
Obesity, for instance, is rare among people who have good eating habits.
In this video he showed that, Scientific research has proven that more than 30 percent of health-
related complexities could be avoided by having a good eating habit. This was what made their
video more fascinated to me.
At the end of the video, he explained the importance of life. He said that there is no doubt, The
modern era is highly competitive and we are so busy these days than the past generations. However,
this does not mean that we should not be aware of our health. We have got only one chance to live

I’m a big fan of cooking. In the recent days, as online media is getting more popular, everything
can be accessed online. Following that trend, I began to improve my cooking skills through online
websites as it is more convenient and easier to find suitable recipes. The website I visit a lot to
learn cooking is Feedy.vn, which is also very popular among foodies, gourmets.
In this website, I can easily find recipes for Vietnamese dishes or even some other Asian recipe
or even European courses. Each video lesson is produced with up-to-date culinary tips and
advice, along with tasty recipes. The dishes are extremely appealing to anyone that I come
across on the Internet, especially for foodaholics.

Sample 7 advertisement
So, I’m going to talk about an advertisement for Blue Electronics, which is one of the biggest
electronic brands in Vietnam. I’ve seen its advertisements everywhere, on TV commercials and
even on social media networks like Facebook and Instagram.
The advertisement shows a video of people dressed as blue household appliances, smiling and
staring creepily at the screen and dancing spontaneously to a really annoying yet catchy tune.
I think the aim of this ad is to create a big impression on the audience and to make the products
seem more appealing to them. I also think they are trying to traumatize the audience so that
whenever they hear that tune, they will think of Blue Electronics.
I think the advert is interesting because the company is deliberately trying to influence and attract
people’s attention, and they do this by trying to present the household appliances as something
special, and kind of like a useful friend for everyone. \I guess.
I think older people will probably not enjoy these kinds of advertisements because older people
usually prefer more informative, serious kind of ads, whereas the younger generation seems to be
more crazy about this kind of advertisement, as I think they seem to be more open and able to
perceive more innovative and hilarious ideas.

how its contestants have succeeded or why they've failed when persuading the investors. Along the
way, the show has offered advantages not just to entrepreneurs but to viewers, in terms of the

Model Answer 2: WEDDING CEROMONEY
Seeing other people laughing always makes me happy just as much as sharing a story of laughter.
I also believe that people should always try to laugh as much as they can, whenever there is a reason
for it because laughter makes us feel happy and alive. So, it is indeed a pleasure for me to talk
about this cue card topic.
It was about a couple of years ago when one of my cousins was getting married. All of our family
members, friends, relatives and many other distinguished guests had come to attend the marriage
ceremony. It was also attended by a number of little children. However, having the most fun at that
marriage ceremony was a “gang of children” who seemed to be “fearless”.
Immediately after arriving at my cousin’s place, they made sure that they were announcing their
“loud presence” everywhere by opening the “gift boxes”, playing with the flowers of wedding
decoration and running to the kitchen, among many other things. Sometimes, they could also be
seen “posing” for pictures to the wedding photographer.
Anyway, after finishing the formal activities of the wedding ceremony and enjoying the delicious
food, there finally came time for watching wedding videos. And, the videos were being played on
a big screen through the use of a projector so that everybody was able to enjoy them. The guests
got busy watching the videos (videos of important events and activities of the wedding ceremonies)
while enjoying some light snacks also at the same time. Then, suddenly, everybody burst into
laughter, and it had continued for about a minute. By the way, I think, it was one of the most natural
and “contagious” laughter, I had ever heard in my life.
Anyway, everyone burst into laughter because the particular “gang of children”, causing “mischief”
at the wedding ceremony, could be seen secretly carrying the big wedding cake, away from public
eyes, at a corner, and then eating it like there was no tomorrow! Well, the wedding guests couldn’t
possibly have expected to see any funnier video of children than this, could they!
The event was arranged marking the 19th birthday of Adaliz, my cousin. The event was held on
the rooftop of their house and the place was decorated nicely. Some traditional food items were
prepared for celebrating the event. And finally, it was time to take photos. Some took group photos
while some took selfies. I took a group picture of some of my relatives and they smiled at me
because I was holding the camera.
It was more than a birthday party. A family gathering would be the best term to explain the event.
The event was participated by almost all the relatives of my family. I went there with my parents
and other siblings. Everyone was asking me to take their photos and I was gladly meeting their
needs.
Unhappy faces are unexpected and so people smile when they pose for photos, especially in a happy
event like a birthday party. So, when I said that I will take group photos, everyone agreed. When
they posed, they smiled so that they look beautiful in the photo. When the photos were printed, the
smiling faces really looked beautiful.
Sample Answer 4:
Thank you for this interesting topic. Due to our busy and modern lifestyle, it is indeed rare to have
time and laughter together with friends and family. We cannot manage enough time for us due to
the hefty schedule we follow. But last month, we all celebrated and smiled as I was offered a
position for the senior executive at a multinational bank in Malaysia.
I went to attend the final interview with a reputed bank operating in Kuala Lumpur on the 24th of
last month and I was able to reach the last round of the interview. The interview was held around
10.30 am and it lasted for around an hour. The interview board consisted of five members. One of
the members was the Vice President of the bank. As it was a senior position, some other bank high-
ups were present in the interview session. Everyone present on the board was happy with my
overall performance and so I was offered the job.
So later this evening, I invited some of my friends and relatives in a restaurant to celebrate this
happy occasion. Every one of us laughed and enjoyed to our fullest. We enjoyed our food and
smiled even every funny and not-so-funny joke.

were smiling. I was happy to see them smiling.

person of them all.
5. While walking down the road the other day, I saw that a woman accidentally dropped a purse but

also thanked me a lot for caring for the purse she dropped.

Model Answer 6 WEDDING
Introduction:
A smile can brighten our day and lighten any situation In today’s fast-paced life we are forgetting
the importance of smiling. Today I will talk about a situation when I saw many people smiling
When it happened? and Who you were with?
It was when I was travelling with my cousin to Chandigarh on a bus. It was around a month ago
There were around 50 passengers on the bus and of all age groups. People were doing different
activities- some were talking to each other, a few were reading, children were busy playing games
on the mobile phones and some were sleeping.
What happened?
After about half an hour into the journey, a passenger sitting in the middle of the bus started talking
on the phone. He had a very loud voice and I could hear him even though I was sitting in one of the
front seats. I couldn’t help hearing his conversation because of his loud voice.
And explain why many people were smiling?
Apparently, he was talking to his wife. From his conversation, it seemed that he had forgotten about
their wedding anniversary. He was apologizing profusely to his wife and was saying that he was
ready to buy her anything she wished for. That conversation lasted for more than 10 minutes before
his wife finally accepted his apology. After the call ended, the person heaved a sigh of relief. My
cousin and I exchanged a few smiles during that conversation. And I happened to turn around and
saw that everyone on the bus was smiling. Everyone on the bus had overheard his conversation and
had enjoyed it. Even the person talking on the phone looked relieved and was smiling. Thinking
about that journey still brings a smile to my face.
Conclusion:
I think that we should smile more often, like when we greet someone or thank someone. It can make
someone’s day.
Sample 7 WEDDING
Last year I witnessed a very beautiful event. I was invited to my friend’s wedding. Usually, such
crowded events make me feel more stressed than excited, but I really enjoyed this one. There were a
lot of bride and groom’s friends, relatives and co-workers. There were many people who had never
seen each other before. What I vividly remember is wherever I looked, I saw smiling people I think
this is because smiling is contagious. When you see that someone smiles at you, even if you don’t
know the person, you can’t help smiling back. I guess the main reason why everyone was smiling is
that the atmosphere was really warm and everyone was in a good mood. As it was in the summer,
they decided to have an outdoor wedding in the grounds of a country restaurant. There was a nice
spot by the lake, surrounded by woodland, and this is where a large tent was set. The venue was
more than perfect. In my opinion, it was beautiful both outside and inside. So, the guests were
genuinely happy, the ceremony was very beautiful, the bride was simply irresistible. At some point
of the celebration we gathered together for a group shot, and we all were so happy that we had very
broad smiles on our faces.
Sample Answer 2:
Thank you so much for this nice topic. I really am proud to have the chance to live in the city of
Malaga in Spain. This is one of the oldest cities in the country and is adorned by numerous
structures which make it one of the most beautiful cities in the whole country. Recently we got a
large building in the southeast corner of the city which is basically is a mega shopping mall that
has different brands and local shops.
The architectural design of the building is attractive. The outer of the entire building is made of
glass. The 14-story building also looks gorgeous in the early part of the day. The sunlight
reflection on the building is wonderful. The tower-like shape is able to arrest attention from
everyone while the central heating control system provides comfort to the visitors.
The building is a shopping mall, and this is the largest one in the surrounding area. A wide number
of shops are available there. Almost every renowned brand could be found there and besides,
some of the local stores in the mall offer gorgeous and traditional local products. The collection
of local and imported products will equally amaze visitors and shop lovers.
Well, I like the building for its stunning outlook and facilities. But it hurts me to think that a large
portion of the natural environment was damaged during the construction of this large building. So I
have mixed feelings about this building. I love it for its look and facilities but I also hate it for the
fact that a large portion of the natural environment was damaged to construct it.
Model Answer 3
The number of high rising buildings is on the rise in my town, Choa Chu Kang in Singapore. This is
a residential town in the West Region of the country. It shares its border with some other cities and
has a moderate population. But the recent rising trend is a bit troublesome, and I will describe the
matter now.
Singapore is a country where people of all cultures and ethnicities live in harmony. The majority
of them are tourists while the remaining others are native and immigrant from different other
countries. To accommodate the huge population, a large number of buildings are underway and
the builders are expanding on the upper sides. So, the number of high-rise structures is on the rise in
my city as well. The building that I am talking about is located in the residential area where I live
in. This is a 20-storied building for multipurpose use. The building is the tallest structure in the
locality.
The building comes with a wide and spacious structure. The inside of the building is well
decorated and there are ample spaces for several purposes. The structure looks like a giant
building standing surpassing everything around. In fact, this is the only high-rise structure in the
locality. The remaining other buildings are not so tall as this one. Most of them are around four-
storied residential buildings. They are only used for residential purposes in the area. But this one is
different from them. The interior of the building is made with attractive design. I think a lot of
labour and money have been invested in the preparation of this building. Construction of the
building began around three years ago and the entire task is done now.
The building is meant for multipurpose use. Actually, this is a completely residential area. There
are no commercial buildings in the entire locality. But this is the first one here. So far I came to
know that the building will be used for commercial and residential purposes. The residential
section will begin from the sixth floor while commercial space is available till the fourth floor. The
spaces will be sold or rented for the shopping centre, food court, gymnasium, mini theatre and
others. It is also known that there will be a recreational park for the kids on the ground floor. The
remaining floors are planned for a residential complex that will come with several lifts and
alleviators, wide staircase and apartments. Moreover, there will an underground parking
facility for the tenants of the building.
I am not in favour of the building for some specific purposes. First of all, this is a multipurpose
building. It comes with various types of use. When the building will come in full-fledged
operation, it will be crowded and noisy. As a result, the existing peace of the locality will be
gone. On the other side, some of the local inhabitants are experiencing some troubles. Even, I am
also having some like I cannot the cellular network signal properly. Besides, I use the modem for
the internet and the modem signal is also hampered to a great extent. The residential status of this
portion of the city will be removed soon. I think this is the beginning of the commercialization of
the area and in the near future, there will be many other buildings like this. The landlords will sell
their properties to make more profit in exchange for sacrificing the existing serenity.
Model answer 4
Introduction:
Well, I have seen many buildings with unique design contemporary as well as conventional but I
would take this opportunity to talk about a very impressive and beautiful building that I saw
recently.
Where it is? and What it is used for?
And it is the building of Elante shopping mall which is in city Chandigarh.
Recently I was on holiday in Chandigarh with my friends, so one day we decided to visit this
shopping mall which is more like a shopper’s in paradise, and when we reached there we just got
amazed because from outside this building just looked breath-taking.
What it looks like? and And explain why you like or dislike it?
Because the elevation of this building is entirely made of glass that looks stunning, and it looks
exceptionally beautiful at night time when it gets illuminated with thousands of lights and we
really couldn’t stop ourselves from taking pictures of this building.
In addition, the interior of this building is even more impressive, it has a column design, because of
that from the inside it looks enormous in size, I must say Elante Mall has a state-of-art
architecture and has a perfect layout.
The lower LEVELS have all the major brands, where people can enjoy their shopping just under
one roof and buy anything they want from Clothes, Footwears to any other Household items, and on
the upper levels there are Cinemas, Food Courts, Game Parlours and many more for the
Entertainment of the visitors, and to access these all different levels, there are lots of escalators as
well as elevators, so that people could comfortably access different floors, not of this building.
Interestingly this show entire building is climate controlled, so people can enjoy their time at the
shopping mall without being affected by the weather.
Conclusion:
Lastly, this building also ensures the safety and security of the visitors, there are fire exits, smoke
alarms, water sprinkles, and everything is the to deal with any kind of emergency.
Model answer 5
Introduction:
I live in the countryside and there are mostly single story-buildings here. So I can’t really think
about a tall building in my village.
Where it is?
However, my family and I visit Ludhiana very often and it has a huge iconic landmark, the clock
tower. We locals call it ‘Ghanta Ghar’. The clock tower is at the entrance of the commercial centre
of Ludhiana and a just a few kilometres to its east is Ludhiana’s railway station.
What it is used for?
Today, it is a famous tourist hotspot. It is also a reminder of a colonial history as it was built nearly
during the preindependence times.
What it looks like?
The design reflects the traditional European Gothic Style. The building is made with red bricks but
it is still striking among the colourful and vibrant marketplace. By today’s standards, it would
not be considered very tall. I think if I had to describe it, its height would be the same as a four or
five-story apartment building. In the residential areas of the city, there are many 30-40 story
buildings as well. But considering the marketplace nearby, which are just single or double-story, it
stands tall. Today, the Ghanta Ghar is a hub of political activity. It is main location where political
parties gather for protests. Unfortunately, as the streets nearby are narrow, this leads to traffic
congestion. So, protestors are generally asked to move to nearby open grounds after some time.
And explain why you like or dislike it?
I like it because it is a reminder of our past. Moreover, the building has a certain charm to it. It
looks beautiful and tall among the haphazard development around it. Many times when I go to
Ludhiana to watch movies and for shopping, I meet friends there. So, it would always be important
to locals and people nearby as a landmark.
IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions
1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in tall buildings
I think the main advantage of living in tall buildings is better daylighting and air ventilation.
It also offers a great view of city life. Finally, the upper floors are free from the noise of the
streets below. On the other hand, the main drawback is the risk of disasters like fires and
falling down due to earthquakes. Another thing I dislike is that it is a lot more time taking to
enter or leave the apartments.
2. Do you think there will be more tall buildings in the future?
Yes definitely, as the land is becoming scarce especially in big cities. I think in the future it would
be a luxury to live in single-storey or double storey houses and tall buildings would be
commonplace.
3. Why aren’t there many tall buildings in the countryside?
The simple reason is the availability of land. As there is a lot of vacant land available in
countryside regions, tall buildings don’t make sense. Moreover, people in the countryside are
accustomed to spending times in open spaces and even if tall apartments are built in such areas, I
don’t think people would prefer living in them.
4. Why do some people like to live in tall buildings nowadays?
I think the main reason is that they are cheaper. Especially in bigger cities, the land is so costly
that it is impossible for even the affluent to afford single storey or double storey houses.
Moreover, tall buildings offer certain respite from the noise from the streets below.
Topic 57
Describe a company where you live that employs a lot of people (New)
What it does
How many does people it employ?
What kind of people work there?
How you feel about it?
Sample 1 NESTLE.
There are many companies in my hometown which employs a lot of people. Here I am going to
talk about one of that company and its name is nestle. It is quite famous in Punjab because out of
all the cities it is only situated in Moga. Moreover, the first branch of Nestle in India was also
set up in Moga in the year 1961. It is located on Ferozepur road. The Company's activities in Moga
have facilitated direct and indirect employment and provides livelihood to thousands of people.
the firm supplies various products such as noodles, milk powder, tomato sauce, chocolates and
many more. Workers working in nestle company enjoy a lot of benefits such as High salary, Job
security, Free food and work-life balance is also given a lot of importance. Nestle is the leading
food production company in the world. I think the best thing about nestle is its hygiene policy
and the safety it provides to employees. I know many people who have worked there in the past
and they always praise this firm whenever I ask them about their experience. Policies are
transparent and are employee-friendly. They provide a good platform to develop skills and
gain experience on technical skills. Whenever they need new employees thousands of people
wait in line to find a job in this organization. So this is the company in my hometown which
employs a lot of people.
Sample 2
I know of many workplaces in and around my home town such as industries, banks, and educational
institutes. Here I am going to talk about a workplace, which is in my hometown and employs a lot
of people. It is the JCT mill, which stands for Jagatjit Cotton and Textile Mills. It is on the G.T.
Road. This mill was established in 1946.The chairman of the company is Mr. M.M. Thapar. My
uncle works in the HR department of this Mill. He tells me a lot about the Mill. Many people,
nearly around 30,000, work in this Mill and they are proud to be part of this Mill. The employer
employee relation is very good. They provide many facilities to their employees. They provide
housing at a very low cost to their employees. Their housing colony is called Thapar Colony. They
also provide healthcare facilities for their employees. They have a school where the children of their
workers can study free of cost. This school is affiliated to the Punjab School Education Board. The
employees live in a world of their own inside the Thapar Colony. There is 24 hours power supply.
They give bonuses and perks to their employees from time to time. The Mill manufactures
cotton fabric. Even big names like Raymonds and Siyaram buy fabric from here and sell it under
their own tag. They have even started manufacturing organic cotton. They also export their
products. Recently they started their readymade garment section in which they have mass
production of Men’s shirts under the brand name of Tyrock. So, this is the workplace where
many people work.
Sample 3
Now I’m living in Hanoi, the capital city so there are many large companies to choose. But I guess
I’d like to describe a company of which I’ve been a loyal customer, a food-beverage company with
a large number of employees. It is BamiKing Joint Stock Company.
As far as I know, this firm has over 40 food stores all over the country, half of which are located in
Hanoi. Each store has approximately ten to fifteen employees, including managers, accountants,
salespeople, processors, and shippers so the total number of staff could be more than 500 people.
BamiKing originally served “banh my”, which is considered the world’s best sandwich, with
diverse fresh ingredients including roast chicken or pork, homemade pâté, cured ham,
headcheese and some veggies like carrot and cucumber. Now this company has expanded its menu
to a wider variety of side-dishes, drinks and desserts such as fries, fruit juices and even ice-cream.
Personally, I usually eat my “banh my” with sausage and pate with Maggi sauce and mayonnaise.
They have a secret recipe of making the bread crispy outside but moist and tender inside. All
ingredients are fresh and combined perfectly with each other. Besides, as a full-time office
worker, I don’t really have much time for cooking, so this kind of quick- service restaurant is an
ideal choice for me to fill my stomach during lunch breaks. It allows me some free time to relax
and recharge my batteries, or even take a short nap before getting back to work.
Model Answer 4 :
The town, in which I live, is not exactly a big one where many industries or businesses, be them big
or small, are to be found. Therefore, it is going to be a challenge for me to find a company that
really employs “many” (depending on how one chooses to define “many” though) people. So, what
I am going to do here is to talk about a company which employs the highest number of people of all
the companies we have in our town.
The company, I am talking about here, is a Textile Manufacturing Company. This textile industry is
primarily concerned with the production of yarn, and cloth, as well as the subsequent design or
manufacturing of clothing and their distribution. The raw materials, used in the company can be
natural or synthetic, depending on the demands and requirements of the customers.
Even though the company initially started to manufacture and operate on a small scale with a rather
limited number of staffs, its operation grew rapidly because of the high demands for its finished
products. Today, with more than 20 different kinds of machines, known as woollen mill machines,
thread winding machines, Bleaching/Dyeing Machines, Scutching Machines, Carding Machines,
Spinning Machines and Yarn Gassing Machines, this textile company employs about at least a
couple of hundreds of employees. Both male and female staffs work for this company, and they
certainly do a great job to contribute to the local economy of my home town. By the way, most
workers at this company are mostly unskilled or semi-skilled, and therefore, they are not really
that qualified other than having a high school diploma.
Anyway, even though, I am happy for the fact that this textile company is in my hometown, I
wouldn’t really work there because neither I have any knowledge about this industry nor I am
interested in this kind of working environment. Besides, the jobs at this company don’t really pay
well, and given how much I earn at my current job, I don’t really think that I would be interested to
work here at this time.
Sample Answer 5:
Thank you for this opportunity to let me talk about a company in my hometown that employs a
sizeable number of people from the locality. This is a chair manufacturing company and it has
been manufacturing chairs for a long time in Greece. The company employs a good number of
local people from the city to manufacture various types of chairs and other accessories to decorate
chairs and tables in my hometown. This is a smart cue card topic and I am really happy to have this.
Around 900 people work here and most of them are workers. In fact, the job of manufacturing
chair involves a huge number of hands to complete the process. Almost all the people of this
locality are involved in producing chairs and they work around the day in the company factory.
The majority of the people belong to the working class while some of them are working as high
officials in the company. Actually, the area I live in is densely populated and most of the people
are not that much educated. As a result, they are unable to manage a higher job for them.
High school graduation is a must to get a job with this company and with higher education, anyone
can apply for some other positions than that of the worker. But if someone can show some
extraordinary skills, educational barriers are relaxed for them. The authority employs them
without a second thought and considers them as the asset for the company. The salary offered by
this company is also higher and everyone working here is pleased.
I would be interested to work here if I get a chance. Actually, all the works are equal and
contribute to building society. So, I do consider the job of a chair company worker is respectable.
Moreover, the benefits of this company are also attractive and everyone loves their job here. I am
currently doing my bachelor degree in Business Administration and would love to get a relevant
administrative job in this company.
More Ideas to help you prepare your own answer:
Cue Card Topic: Describe a company which employs many employees in your hometown.
1. This is a renowned car manufacturing company based in Nuremberg in Germany. The company
employs a good number of employees and at present- around 150 employees work there. The
employees need to be moderately educated. They need the minimum qualification for getting
recruited. If I get the scope of working with the company, certainly I will work there. The packages
are highly lucrative for the employees.
2. T-mobile is a large mobile phone device manufacturer based in New York. This is a large
company and employs around 300 people in its plant. All the staffs need to be highly educated as
they deal with sophisticated mobile accessories, equipment and technologies. I am unwilling to get
a job there for some reasons. The most important thing is that the work in the factory is
complicated. The staffs inside the factory need to work with sophisticated tools to make or repair
the mobile phones. And I am unable to do those.
3. National Australia Bank is a bank in Australia. It employs a notable number of people in its
branches across the country. Now over 500 people are working there. Getting a job in this bank
requires a higher degree. Completing a university degree is the minimum qualification for a job in
this bank. Certainly, I am interested to get a job in this bank. The jobs are filled with responsibilities
and rewards are outstanding.
4. Singtel is a communication company based in Singapore. This is one of the largest
telecommunication company in the Asian region. The company employs a substantial number of
personnel to run its daily activities. A bachelor degree is a must to get a job here. I would like to
serve here if I can have the chance. The company has a wide pool of responsibilities and I have the
option to get one after my qualification.
5. In Russia, Inter RAO is a power engineering company. This is one of the largest companies in the
country and employs thousands of people. The company is based in Moscow and has its branches
across the country. An engineering degree is a must to get a job in this company. The rewards for
the employees here also smart. Despite my interest to get a job here, I would not be allowed because
I do not have the degree needed to get a job here.
1. Is it easy to find a job in India?
No, definitely not easy. India is a diverse country and has a population of more than 120 crores.
Obviously, there is a lot of competition in getting jobs.
2. What should the government do if there is unemployment?
The government should encourage self-employment and also set up cottage industries, so that
more and more people can be employed. MNCs should also be encouraged, so that the problem of
unemployment can be mitigated.
3. Is a high salary important?
Yes, a high salary is very important. Money is of course the most important motivation to work.
But sometimes, it is OK to get a job one loves, even if the salary is a bit less.
4. Is it ok to do a job you like with a low salary?
If I have to choose a job with a slightly high salary, but I don’t like it, then I wouldn’t do it and
choose the job of my liking. However, if the difference in pay is very high, then I would go for that
job even if I don’t like it much.
5. Are there many big companies in your country?
Yes, there are. India is a fast-developing country. There are many Indian companies, which are
very big such as Tata, Mahindra, Godrej, Reliance, Onida, and so on. There are also many
multinational giants which have opened branches in India, such as Samsung, LG, Maruti Suzuki,
Hyundai, and so on.
6. How can a small company grow big?
Small companies can do so in many ways. They can work hard, employ skilled workers, focus on
quality, and employ good marketing strategies.
7. Should big companies donate more to charities?
Yes, they should. I believe that anyone who has enough should help the needy on humanitarian
grounds. Many big companies help NGOs and NPOs. This is a win-win situation for both. When
they get publicity for their charity work, they are getting advertisement for free.
8. Should big companies be punished more seriously if they break the law?
No, they should not. Law should be the same for all – big as well as small companies.
Usually, big companies have big connections. So, they try to get away with their wrongdoings.
This also should not happen. Punishment should be equally serious for all law offenders.
9. What are the good things about working for a big company?
What are the differences between big companies and small companies?
10 What are the differences between being a boss and working for others? = Why do some
people open their own business?
They are worlds apart, I personally feel so. What sets working for others apart is that, you don’t
have to suffer from a lot of pressure, but the motivation is not so strong. As many people
contribute their effort to the wellbeing of the whole company, you usually receive help when
facing some trouble with the work, but as I have said, many would leave their work at some
point because they gradually become less interested in what they are doing. On the other hand,
if you are a boss, you should have comprehensive abilities. To put it simply, you have to possess
leadership, organizational skills and are responsible for the success or failure of your own
business.
11 Which is harder, working as a boss or an employee?
It can be pretty clear that the higher your position is, the more responsibility you have to
undertake, Bearing this in mind, being a boss is going to be more demanding as a boss has to
take care of all aspects of the company. He must know who to employ and how to make a good
use of the resources as well as thinking ways to expand the business. My parent is a manager in
a large corporation and often complains about the backbreaking workload which keeps him at
work and can never leave work before 8 p.m. in the evening.
12 What are the benefits of working for others?
When you are employed by others, you don’t have to worry about the whole running of the market.
If the company is in a bad condition, you may choose to leave. On top of that, you will have more
time to pursue other leisure pursuits like going to the cinema every weekend to watch a blockbuster
or having casual chitchat with your friends sometimes. This I reckon is a wild dream if you are a
manager in a multinational company.
13 What are important abilities for those working in a company?
You should be clear about the details of your responsibility. To put it in other words, workers are
supposed to carry out their assigned tasks effectively and efficiently, without lazing around or
thinking that laziness won’t affect the success of the whole company. After all, they are paid for
their work and contribution. I wouldn’t forget to mention that team spirit is essential as well, and
your efficiency can be improved when you cooperate with others, rather than individually sail
through the difficult times.
14 What kind of small business is popular in this city?
In my city, people prefer to open beauty salons or small coffee shops. I can put it down to the fact
that most girls or women would try their best to look gorgeous in others’ eyes, and spending money
to beautify themselves is considered as a must for them. Or in a similar situation, the youths tend to
hang out with their buddies for some casual/idle chitchat, which means many cafes are doing well
recently. Ah, not less popular are some small restaurants that can only accommodate no more than
ten people. It can be understandable that many would call on these places for a snack or drink when
they have time or feel hungry.
15 What are the things that you learned from a university and from your working
experience?
In my personal situation, I learn the basic knowledge from my university, and from my work, I
learn how to apply theory into practice. The importance of university study can never be denied
as it equips you well with the working or operation of certain things, so it’s much easier and faster
to make something work. Whereas, experience is the best teacher for the fundamental reason that
when you actually involve yourself in something, you can learn anything without much prior
knowledge. As well as this, I learn to find problems and then try to solve them with the
knowledge obtained from tertiary education.
16 Which is important if you want to run your own business? = What challenges and
difficulties do people face when they try to have a successful small business?
It requires people to have perseverance as well as response to challenges, and I guess careful
planning is more essential. To be more specific, you need to calculate how much capital needed
for investment, how many employees to hire, or whether the business can last long once it is in
operation. Another factor worth mentioning is luck. From my experience, I have seen some
entrepreneurs succeed only because they launched their business in the right place and at the
right time.
17 What changes in employment have there been in recent years in your country?
There has been a rejuvenation of the “entrepreneurial spirit” in our country; more and more
people are involved in starting their own businesses. The “start-up” community is now more
alive than ever, even college students launch their start-up businesses while in a university. Even
though there is a high failing rate of start-up businesses; still, people are starting to take risk and
put their ideas into creation
18 Is it easy to set up a company in Vietnam?
It’s not very easy. A person has to have enough capital to set up a business. This is the most
important stuff to take into account as you need enough money to make sure that your business is
gonna survive despite some initial difficulties. It can break even, make a loss or a profit. Ah, I
guess that you need to have some knowledge of the field you’re going to invest in so that you can
manage it more effectively and efficiently.
Topic 58 Describe what you think would be the perfect job for
you/What is your dream job?
You should say:
What job it would be
What you would do in this job
And explain why you think this would be the perfect job for you
Sample 1 a job in Marketing field
Being a girl/boy living in my 20s, I strongly believe that I should choose a right path for my
career. In my opinion, a good career is not only a job that can offer me a good income to afford
my living, but is enjoyable as well. That’s why I think a job in Marketing field will suit me well.
I had spent a great amount of time on defining my strengths and weaknesses as well as asking
for advice from other people. After that, I came to the conclusion that my outstanding skill is
writing which I have an inborn talent for. Since I was at the age of 8, I was found out to be gifted
in Literature by my teachers. They contributed a lot to developing my set of skills. During years
of study, majoring in literature, I was often considered to be among the best students. Along with
my writing skills, I think I will utilize my analytic skills and creativity which I acquired after
years of studying at my university to dig into customer’s behaviors, then, develop a good
campaign to get more customers for our company.
Additionally, I am strongly passionate about Marketing. Therefore, I began to work in this field
quite early, since I was a freshman. Those working experiences provide me basic knowledge and
skills of Marketing as well as strengthen my belief that this job would suit me.
Even though I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge of Marketing and I am currently
working in Marketing department of Fast-moving Consumer Good company, I still have a long
way to go before knowing it inside out. I also hope that I can be good enough to get some
promotion in near future.

Sample 2 AN AIR HOSTESS
For me, the ideal job that I would like to have is to be an air hostess.
This job involves taking care of customers on planes, serving food and drinks, and making sure that
they have a safe flight. In Vietnam, to apply for this position, an applicant has to meet various
requirements, including being at least 20 years old, having good communication and problem-
solving skills, having a good command of language, and so on. One special thing is this career is
open to both men and women, although women are preferred.
There are many reasons why I think this job would suit me. Firstly, I have a passion for traveling.
Taking this job, I could travel to many countries on a regular basis. Occasionally, when I have free
time between flights, I would be able to go sightseeing and enjoy a variety of local food.
Secondly, I have quite a good command of English and French, which are spoken by the majority of

Sample 3
What is the Job About? Everyone needs to do a job that gives them fulfilment, and I believe that
becoming a teacher is perfect for me because it allows me to represent the community. This work is
perfect for me because it is a learning experience. Aside from educating pupils, the teacher knows a
lot of things. The teacher will learn new learning from the pupils every day before the retirement
age. Aside from that, teachers are still well-respected members of society. Furthermore, a teacher is
responsible for the kids’ development.
Why Do You Like the Job? As a result, a teacher’s ability to transform students into any form is
unrivalled. An instructor is the foundation of all great physicians, scientists, and engineers. I
consider this work to be competitive because it allows me to combine my personal and professional
lives. It has an easy opening and closing hours, and as the saying goes, “rest is rust,” because
teachers are still learning new things. They are never done studying.
Explain Why You Think it is a Perfect Job for You? They seem to be more enthusiastic and
capable of adapting to changing conditions, in my opinion. They have the ability to influence
society; if there is a need for reform, teachers will make a significant contribution through their
teaching. As a result, I’ve found my calling in the education sector. But this is why I adore this
career and aspire to be a teacher in the future.
Sample 4
What is the Job About?
As a woman in her twenties, I am convinced that I must take the best direction for my future. A
successful job, in my mind, is one that not only pays well enough for me to survive but is also fun.
That is why I feel a career in marketing would be a good match for me.
I had invested a considerable amount of time identifying my strengths and shortcomings, as well as
receiving input from others. Following that, I came to the realisation that my excellent ability is
literature, which I was born with.
Why do You Like the Job? Cue Card Sample Answer
My teachers discovered that I was talented in literature when I was eight years old. They made
significant contributions to the development of my ability set. Throughout my years of study as a
literature major, I was often rated as one of the top students. Alongside my writing skills, I believe I
can use my analytic and creative abilities, which I gained from years of research at my university, to
delve into consumer habits and then build a successful campaign to gain more customers for our
business.
In addition, I am extremely enthusiastic about marketing. As a result, I started working in this area
when I was a freshman. Those work experiences provided me with basic marketing skills and
knowledge, as well as strengthened my confidence that this job would be a good match for me.
Explain Why You Think it is a Perfect Job for You?
Despite the fact that I have acquired a great deal of experience and understanding of Marketing and
am actually working in the Marketing team of a Fast-moving consumer products firm, I still have a
long way to go until I know it inside and out. I still expect to be successful enough to be promoted
in the immediate future.
Model Answer 5: TRAVEL WRITER
Today I am going to talk about my dream job for the future. I am going to tell you what the job is,
the sort of experience and qualifications I might need to do it, then what it involves including what
might be the most difficult thing about the job. I think it will be pretty obvious why it is my dream
job, but I’ll explain that too. My dream job would be to be a travel writer!
Travel writers are often self-employed. They travel the world to interesting places and then write
magazine, newspaper and internet articles about their experiences. In terms of qualifications, I think
that’s less important than having a portfolio of examples of your work that show you are a really
good writer. Having said that, possibly qualifications that provide a good basic level of English
language are useful, and maybe even creative writing or journalism courses might help you to build
confidence and develop a writing style
To do this job you have to be willing to go to lots of new places. You also need to be able to write
fluently and in different styles for different publications. Travel writers must be very flexible, as
you might need to go to difficult or uncomfortable places and to travel at short notice.
The most difficult part of the job? Well, it’s not very well paid, so often travel writers need to have
another job a well, because, unfortunately, you can’t really make a living out of this type of work.
Also, even if you are successful, it would be quite an unsettling way to live, it would be hard to
maintain friends and pursue hobbies if you are moving around all the time … mind you, I think that
would be a small price to pay to be part of such a fantastically interesting and stimulating
profession!
The reason I would like to do this job so much is that I love going to new places. For example,
earlier this year I got to go to Vietnam to work as a TEFL teacher, that was a new and wonderful
experience for me. I would so enjoy telling other people what it was like and encouraging them to
go on an adventure of their own. I also like communicating ideas in writing, it would be wonderful
to make a living out of the two things I enjoy most – travel and writing!
Unfortunately, there are very few opportunities to make a living as a travel writer, so I think it
might have to stay as my dream Job, rather than my actual job! Even so, I think it is important to
have a dream, because otherwise how can you ever have a dream come true!
Model Answer 6: MEDICAL DOCTOR
To tell the truth, I am reasonably happy with my current job, but it never really hurts to think about
a “dream job” once in a while, does it?
Anyway, the dream job, I want to have, is the job of a Medical Doctor. Interestingly enough though,
when I was a young student, the medical profession never really appealed me, probably because it
involved too much study time and very little fun time. Of course, my parents urged me to become a
medical doctor at some point of time, when I was a junior college student, but I chose to ignore
their suggestion because I rather wanted to be a business administration and management personnel.
So, I eventually finished my MBA before joining a very prestigious multi-national firm in my
country. But, anyway, while, so far, I have enjoyed my career as a top manager at a corporation, I
feel like I could probably offer a lot more as a doctor to my community. But, of course, it never is
an easy proposition because I would have to go back to school again in order to finish at least a 5/6
years of medical school. Then, I would also need to work as a resident or intern for at least a year
before qualifying for a medical practice license.
After all, healing sick people and give them a new and healthy life never is an easy job by any
stretch imagination. But, above everything else, I think that the most difficult thing about this job
would be to remain patient at all times since it is a matter of life and death for a person.
Anyway, I consider this to be my dream job, mainly because perhaps no other jobs in this world
draws as much appreciation and gratitude from another fellow human being as the job of a medical
doctor. It is my dream job also because it would always allow me to learn new things about human
life, the most fascinating subject of all.
Sample Answer 7: WILDLIFE CONSERVATION
My dream job? Easy. I’d like to work in wildlife conservation. I’ve thought about it quite a lot, so I
can tell you all about the qualifications and experience that can help you get a ‘foot in the door’
what the job might involve and the difficult parts of it too. I’ll try and explain why it would be, for
me anyway, a dream come true to be doing it.
There are lots of different ways to be involved in wildlife conservation all over the world. You
might be trying to save rhinos from being poached in South Africa, or looking after injured wildlife
like hedgehogs or foxes in the UK. Wherever you want to work, and whether it is with just one
species (like elephants) or whole ecosystems (like keeping the arctic or desert free from the impact
of man) a lot of the principles are the same. You have to demonstrate commitment through practical
experience. In practice, this means volunteering. It might be helping with a local conservation
charity, maintaining woodland habitats for example by removing non-native species and keeping
trees healthy through appropriate pruning. It could be volunteering in a more hands-on way with
animals, helping care for seabirds affected by oil pollution, or it might be through looking after
other mammals, working at a riding stable or farm. This experience shows that you quite literally
don’t mind getting your hands dirty and have some physical stamina too –working outdoors for
wildlife conservation can take you to some quite demanding environments, and it is hard work.
However, as well as this practical experience, qualifications are helpful too.
Environmental qualifications help you understand how habitats and ecosystems fit together. Science
courses in biology and botany help enormously, but so too might a politics or economics course. If
you take the example of rhino poaching this is not a ‘simple’ matter of protecting individual animals
or even their habitats, it is also about understanding the global business of dealing in rhino horn,
why it is in demand and how this demand might be stopped. Fundraising skills are needed, and IT
and communication skills too to help charities and NGOs explain their causes. Wildlife
conservation is a multi-disciplinary endeavour, many people are needed, from different countries
too.
In terms of what the job involves, it can be very diverse. It involves all aspects of managing and
protecting the local environment wherever in the world that might be. It could be educating local
people about their wildlife and encouraging them to understand why it is important to preserve it. It
might involve practically managing the habitat, planting trees or clearing paths. It could involve
observation and monitoring to see what wildlife is present and whether or not populations are
thriving or struggling. It could be working in a remote island or forest locations, or in more urban
habitats where the interests of wildlife and people clash as their territory encroaches on one another.
The role is exciting, but I think it could be really difficult too. Many animals are at risk of
extinction and sadly not all people want to preserve them. It would be heart-breaking to work to
protect an animal, like a rhino and then to have it poached and killed just for its horn. It must take
enormous tenacity to pick yourself up and keep on going after a setback like that, and yet that is
what is happening all the time to people in South Africa working to protect the precious few rhinos
that are left. I also think it would be very difficult when the interests of people are at odds with
those of animals and the wild environment. In some parts of the world, animals are really threatened
– like the gorillas in Rwanda, who are terribly endangered. However, the people who live around
the forests which the gorillas inhabit are themselves suffering. They have endured war and poverty,
they too need the resources of the forests in order to survive. That is a truly difficult test for
conservationists. How to protect the animals but look after local people with justice and compassion
too. If my family were starving I would see that as a greater immediate priority than saving a gorilla
I had never seen, but the crisis for the gorillas is real all the same. Solutions that help both man and
wildlife to thrive alongside one another (maybe through tourism, so people benefit from the
continuation of the species) are most needed.
I think it would be a really interesting role to help preserve rare and endangered species for future
generations in their natural habitats rather than just in zoos. For me, a ‘dream job’ would be one that
I could be proud to say I did, and which in some small way made the world a better place for my
time spent on it. However, I think it would be a troubled dream because it is a very difficult one to
succeed in. I think sometimes trying to save animals from extinction is as futile as trying to hold
back the tide of the seas, however, I still think it is important to try. If we give up now then
extinction is the only possible outcome, if we all keep on trying to preserve habitats and the animals
that live within them, perhaps we can have a brighter future for us all?
Sample Answer 8: BANKER
Everyone dream to have a good job. I am not an exception in this case. I also have a dream job and
it is to be a well-reputed banker. Thank you for expressing my about my dream job and I will
describe it in brief here.
Usually, a banker needs to have some special degrees in Finance or Management. An MBA is a
suitable one. Further, there are some other professional courses are also available like Bank
Management etc. to reach the job. I have completed my MBA and pursuing another degree to make
my dream come true. But it is really difficult for a woman to achieve her dream job and this is for
extensive competitions in the sector. A large number of women like me are after the job and hence
the scopes are limited. However, I am trying my best to reach the goal and someday I definitely will
be with my dream.
The job would involve a good number of tasks and responsibilities. In fact, there is no specific limit
for the job but there are some ideas about it. I think the job might want me to do some of the
documenting of the clients’ transactions, assist is the account opening with the bank, distribution of
money to the clients or the real owner and more other. In fact, I have to remain busy round the day
with numerous types of works and responsibilities. Sometimes, I may need to move out of the bank
for some official purposes. The bank may also send me to get training on other banking issues.
Arranging for remittance transfer and monitoring online transactions etc. are some of the notable
tasks that a banker needs to do usually. There might be some exceptions as well. So, I am preparing
for the responsibilities.
The most difficult thing about the job is to get it. Generally, banks recruit with recruitment
examinations. The candidates have to appear in the recruitment exams, and then they are asked for
formal interviews with the authority (if they can pass the written tests). Finally, the recruitment is
completed. But this is not as easy as it sounds. The recruitment test takes place for hours. It needs
lots of preparations. In fact, applicants who are weak in mathematics and accounting are unable to
pass the tests. Besides, the test also comes with analytical ability analysis. As a candidate, you need
to pass all the segments. Then comes the oral test. The Human Resource department is responsible
for arranging the written and oral tests. If I can cross both the barriers, I can have the job.
Baking is my dream job for several reasons. First of all, this is a secured job. I know there are lots
of troubles with this profession, but there are fewer chances of losing the job. Besides, the
remuneration that I will get is smart enough to lead a decent life. Moreover, I like to have some
challenges in my career and profession. Banking is one of the professions that comes with some
specific set of challenges. As a woman, I am able to undertake them and could exercise my mental
faculty to the largest extent. Based on the grounds, banking has become my dream job.
Sample 9 answer
You know, I have always wanted to become an author of fantasy novels
ever since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I was hyperlexic; you know, I knew how to read at
the age of 5, and when I was 6, I devoured 200-page novels on a monthly basis.
The art of discourse always fascinates me. – oh how I love the way writers shape and mould
landscapes, anecdotes, mysteries or urban legends into beautifully and logically written lines.
Dragons and dungeons run in my vein, and all too often I find myself sleep-talking about wizards
and witchcrafts.
Back when I was still naïve, I thought all writers were rolling in money. Just look at how J.K
Rowling earned easy money by sitting comfortably at a café, doing nothing but scribble on her
notes! However, when I get older, I realized that I was dead wrong. There can only be one J. K.
Rowling out there, and it takes years of practice, blood and tears to become a brilliant writer.
Although I failed to realise my dream as a fantasy writer, I do write short stories in my leisure time.
Come and visit my Facebook if you want to read mine!

Bài mẫu 02: chủ đề Describe your dream job
I must admit that my dream job has nothing to do with the current job I am doing. I have always
wanted to become an event manager for any kind of event from a conference to a concert. The
process of planning and preparing for an event is what I find intriguing and fascinating.
I’d probably enjoy working and being trained in such a flexible and dynamic environment that is the
event industry. I would like to get to know the behind-the-scene procedure of creating from a small
to a mega event. In Saigon, there are a lot of amazing event companies but If I could choose, I’d
say Gem Center is the company that I’d love to work for.
To be able to be an event manager, I need two things: a qualification in event management and
working experience. My bachelor degree is Tourism and Event Management so I only need to have
more competent working experience in this field to get into the position where I can be hired as an
event manager. An event manager is a highly well-organized person who can handle adversity
efficiently so I will need to improve at that part too.
Creating an error-free and successful event is my dream and I’m trying so hard to get to that
position where I am competent to work in that position. Thank you for listening!
Topic 59 Describe a law on environmental protection.
You should say
What it is?
How you first learned about it?
Who benefits from it?
And explain how you feel about this law?
Model Answer 1:
Introduction:
Well, the government of my country enacts various laws for the smooth functioning of the state.
What it is?
Here, I would like to talk about a very important law that has been introduced lately to protect
the environment. It is quite unfortunate to see that the environment getting degraded day by
day and if not taken seriously, it would lead to a dire consequence.
The biggest challenge at present is plastic waste. The amount of solid waste is constantly
increasing and a major proportion of this waste is plastic. Millions of tons of plastic waste end
up at landfill sites day in and day out. Since it is a non-biodegradable product, it stays there
forever. At the same time, it releases extremely harmful toxins and often become a cause of
birds and animal’s death that feed on landfill sites.
To overcome this challenge, the government of India has completely banned the use of plastic
bags. Now if people go shopping, they carry their own bags usually Jute bags which are
ecofriendly. Along with the ban, the government also aware the general public to say ‘No to
plastic’. In fact, plastic is also responsible for ruining the beauty of public areas parks and bus
stops.
Because plastic trash can be seen all around but under this law, if someone caught using plastic
bags has to pay a five thousand rupees fine and the shopkeepers who keep plastic bags have to
pay twenty thousand rupees fine. It is just because of this strict law and heavy penalty people
have started avoiding plastic bags.
Who benefits from it? and And explain how you feel about this law?
It is resulting in a substantial decline in the amount of waste produced and keeping the
environment clean and green.
Conclusion:
I hope there will be more laws that would be implemented to save the environment in future.
Model Answer 2:
Introduction:
Well, it is not wrong to say that global warming and the consequent climate change are the
direct outcomes of indiscriminate human activities. The increased amount of carbon dioxide in
the atmosphere warms the earth’s surface causing serious problems.
It is comforting to know that the nations around the world are giving priority to environmental
issues due to which various acts have been introduced like the environment protection act,
wildlife protection act, water prevention and control of pollution.
What it is?
But here I would like to talk about a major law that is to protect the trees. I got to know about
this act from a newspaper that I like to read in the morning. According to this act, no one is
allowed to cut the tree if it is not in their private land. Therefore, anyone found offending this rule
will not only be fined but also sentenced to non-bailable jail for 2 years. It is well said that
‘when the last tree dies, last man dies’.
Honestly, it was really significant to make this law as it is clear that millions of trees are Chopped.
As a result, the ratio of carbon dioxide has increased than Oxygen. Large areas of forest land,
which maintains the balance of nature, are also destroyed in the name of industrialization and
urbanization. Consequently, large glaciers in the polar region melt. Creating flood and
submerging vast areas of human-inhabited land Moreover, trees are the habitat of various
birds And animals and the extinction of these can really be deleterious to mankind.
And explain how you feel about this law?
Preservation of trees is imperative to prolonged life on earth.
IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions
1. Do you think this law is acceptable to the people?
Yes, I think this law has been accepted well by the people of India. There is growing awareness
about the environmental issues and Indians too are making their efforts to save and preserve the
environment.
2. Is there any situation wherein nơi mà people may disobey the law?
Yes, there are situations when people disobey the/this law. The main reasons for such laws not
being followed by the people are personal profits/benefits and the convenience that they may have
to give up.
3. Do people like being a police officer in your country?
Yes, many people in my country like being a police officer. Every year there are several people who
take the tests to become a police officer. The competition that exists for such exams is a clear
indicator that many people strive to become police officers and serve their country.
3. What qualities should a police officer possess? ***
A police officer should possess many qualities. He/she should be physically fit and active and
should have a passion to serve the people and the Nation. Some other qualities are honesty,
eagerness to search for the truth and bring justice to people, some skills like martial arts or
other such combat skills to fight the criminals, courage, fearlessness, determination, and many
more such qualities.
4. Why some people prefer to be a lawyer?
Some people prefer to be a lawyer because they want to ensure that everyone receives justice
and is treated fairly by the law. They may have a desire to fight for others’ rights and ensure
that everyone gets a fair chance to justify their actions. Some people choose this profession
because of the prospects of earning money and fame.
5. Should people be penalized when they use mobile phones while driving?
These days vehicles are well equipped with a system wherein you can connect via bluetooth to
your mobile and you can be handsfree and still use your mobile but if a driver is talking or texting
on the phone while driving he should be heavily penalized.
6. Is kindness the most important quality of a police officer?
No, kindness is certainly not the best quality of a Police Officer. A Police officer has to be honest,
straightforward, and very curious while performing his duty. Unfortunately, we cannot afford
to be very kind as the criminals may take advantage of the situation
7. Do you think both men and women can be police officers?
These days we are living in an egalitarian society so gender bias doesn’t hold ground in any
profession. Every man and every woman is worthy of any profession. So both and men and
women are equally capable of serving in the police department
8. Do you think the police officers are paid too much?
I think in the Western world police officers are paid well in accordance to their duties but in the
developing countries their salaries do not match the work they do, they deserve better salaries.
But I do not agree that they are paid too much because they face too many dangers of life and
limb while performing their services.
9. Do all Indian people obey the law?
Human psychology is the same everywhere in the world when the citizens know that they are
going to be caught, penalized, put behind the bars, they will obey the law. A law well
implemented is well obeyed. I think Indian people know they can find loopholes to save
themselves, so they do not obey the law. I have come across very honest Indians and very
dishonest people from other nations so the system that has to get strict.
10. Are there laws about education in India?
11. What kind of rules do schools in India have?
12. What can teachers do to make students obey rules?
13. What should parents do to educate children about laws?
Sample 3
I was born and raised in Hanoi and have been here for 27 years. I have watched the city develop
from a small town and grow into a modern metropolitan area in the new era. With the skyrocketing
population of recent years, the city’s environment has become significantly polluted. As a result, I
think environmental laws should be enacted immediately to solve this problem.
First of all, Hanoi’s mayor should consider putting more trash bins out in the streets so that people
won’t throw rubbish anywhere anytime. Furthermore, the city police should heavily fine those
who are caught littering the streets. By doing so, not only could we save a lot of money on cleaning
costs but we could also improve the surrounding public scenery.
Secondly, the city should run a campaign to educate people on how to classify and separate
garbage before throwing it out. This is necessary because unsorted waste contributes to the
pollution of underground water and the earth. In my opinion, although these above actions are
minor, they would contribute to diminishing the impacts of pollution in our local area if they were
done on a collective level.

Topic 60 Describe a film that made you think a lot
You should say:
What it was
When you saw it
What it was about
And explain why it made you think a lot
To be honest, I only watch movies once in a blue moon since I don’t have a lot of free time.
However, there’s one movie that really moved me and which I consider my greatest inspiration
every time I feel like giving up and that’s the 2006 movie, The Pursuit of Happyness.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Once in a blue moon [idiom] – very rarely Give up [phrasal verb] –
admit defeat; quit
That movie was released more than a decade ago but I got the chance to watch it sometime last
year when a friend of mine insisted on me watching it. The movie was starred by a high-caliber
actor Will Smith, together with his real-life son, Jaden Smith who acted as his young son in the
movie and who was only eight years old then.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Insist [verb] – persist in doing something Star [verb] – to play the most
important role in a film Caliber [noun] – when it’s used to describe a person, it refers to the quality
or standard of their ability, intelligence, especially when it is high
Well, it’s still vivid in my memory how the movie left me teary-eyed witnessing the struggle of
Chris Gardner, played by Will Smith. To give you a synopsis of that movie, Chris became a
single father after his wife left him because of financial instability. He was evicted from his
apartment with his son for failing to pay the rent, and because of that, they ended up sleeping in
a restroom at a station and in homeless shelters. Life’s a struggle for Chris but he refused to give
in to despair and did his very best to create a better life for himself and his son. Because of his
persistence, he’s able to get a job as a stockbroker and eventually became the owner of a multi-
million dollar brokerage firm.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Vivid [adj.] – clear Synopsis [noun] – a brief summary Homeless
shelters [noun] – a homeless service agency that provides temporary shelter to the homeless
The story was really inspirational, I remember after watching that movie, I thought about my life –
I thought about the personal struggles that I’d gone through and told myself that everything
would be alright. Since then, that movie became my reminder to not lose hope whenever I face
some difficulties that test my strength or when the time comes that I doubt myself. Like
recently, I’ve just got laid off from work because of the pandemic and here I am taking this
IELTS exam several times now for the sole purpose of chasing my dream. Honestly, I can’t help
myself but sometimes feel like giving up, thinking that perhaps, my dream to work abroad isn’t
meant for me. However, the moment when I feel I’m on the brink of quitting, that movie
reminds me to keep going. If my friend hadn’t recommended that film and if I hadn’t spared time
watching it and learned the valuable life lessons, I would have given up long before.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Turn out [phrasal verb] – to have a particular result especially an
unexpected one Lay off [phrasal verb] – dismiss; discharge a worker Can’t help oneself [idiom] –
unable to control one’s action On the brink [idiom] – a situation when you’re almost in a new
situation usually a bad one Long before [expression] – a long time before/ago
PART 3 What do you think makes a good film?
That’s hard, but in my opinion, the story and the great acting performances by actors make the
film great. If the story is well-written and it’s perfectly executed by the actors that it can stir up
the audience, then we can say that the film is worth watching. Just like Will Smith’s film which I
have talked about earlier, the story teaches people several life lessons such as hope, love,
persistence, hard work, being ambitious, success, and happiness. That story touches people’s lives
and the main actor’s exceptional performance leaves a good impression on every person who
watches the film. Well, I know, cinematography is one important factor that can make a film
great, however, those two important factors I’ve explained are what I always consider first when
judging a film on whether it’s a great one or a complete flop.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Execute [verb] – to do or perform something Stir up [phrasal verb] – to
arouse or excite feelings Touch [verb] – to influence someone emotionally Leave a (good)
impression [idiom] – to create a strong impact on someone positively Cinematography [noun] – the
art and the techniques of using cameras in making a film Flop [noun] – a failure
Is the film industry important in a country?
Yes, definitely and it’s necessary for several ways. Aside from the fact that it provides
entertainment to people, the industry of filmmaking promotes cultural awareness or educates
people about social issues that are not commonly tackled by government leaders or the common
people. Through movies, people become aware of their own unique cultures and traditions that
need to be preserved and that they can be proud of, and the problems that their own country is
facing which need attention. Besides, the film industry helps the economy of a country prosper in
a way of job creation and hefty tax contribution. So I can say, the film industry plays an
important role in entertaining and educating people and at the same time in flourishing the
country’s economy.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Aside from [phrase] – apart from; in addition to Tackle [verb] – deal with
Hefty [adj.] – large in amount Flourish [verb] – prosper; develop; grow
What kinds of films are popular in your country?
Well, based on the box office hits, it’s mostly drama and romance. I suppose that’s because of
our culture, people in my country innately enjoy rags-to-riches stories as they give so much
inspiration. So major film companies take advantage of that and produce dramas with that kind of
theme. Also, romance is indisputably famous and that I believe is due to a huge number of young
audiences in my country. That genre is what those types of audiences love watching and because
of that, film companies never fail to create such films for the sole purpose of attaining
commercial success. The downside is the quality is jeopardized sometimes since the story
becomes predictable and there’s nothing wow factor anymore. Honestly, I’m not into watching
local films because of that reason, I understand that it’s important to support local films but I
get tired of the same plot of the local films produced in this country, they’re not fascinating to me
at all.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Box office hit/success [noun] – a successful film that earns a lot of money
Innately [adv.] – naturally; inborn Rags-to-riches [adj.] – to describe a person who was once
poor but becomes rich Take advantage of [phrase] – to use an opportunity to achieve results;
exploit Indisputably [adv.] – in a way that it can’t be denied Downside [noun] – drawback
Jeopardize [verb] – put something into a situation in which there’s failure Wow factor [noun] – a
quality or feature that makes people feel excitement or admiration
Why do some movies use some special effects?
Basically, the main purpose of adding some special effects to a film is to make the film more
interesting. What I mean by that is the use of special effects helps tell a better and more
engaging story that adds more value to the entire film. As a result, moviegoers are entertained
well and at the same time feel more satisfied. Another reason for using those visual and special
effects is that they make scenes that are impossible to be executed by the actors possible, most
especially on sci-fi or fantasy films, for instance, the showcasing of superpowers. That cannot
be done in real life so resorting to using those effects makes things possible. Well, motion
pictures these days would have been dull and less credible if special effects had not invented.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Basically [adv.] – fundamentally; in the most essential respects
Showcase [verb] – to show someone in a way that attracts attention Resort [verb] – adopt
Topic 61 Describe a bag you want to own. 5’’
You should say
What kind of bag is it? 25’’
Where you want to buy it? 25’’
How much will it cost you? 25’’
Why you want this kind of bag? 40’’
Model Answer 1
Introduction:
Well, I do not know much about bags as I have used just a few school bags and handbags.
What kind of bag is it?
Here I would like to talk about a bag I guess most famous amongst the tourist and the bag is of
American Tourister. It is mainly used by frequent travelers who travel overseas.
Where you want to buy it?
I got to know about this when I was shopping with one of my friends as he was migrating to
Canada, due to which we were searching for the best quality durable bag. The bag shopkeeper
showed us this bag and said it is the best kind of bag because of the supreme quality of stuff used
to make it. Apart from its unbeatable storage capacity, it also has some advanced features,
which allured me.
Firstly, the luggage in the bag remains highly secured as it has a lock that opens with a thumb
print of the Owner. This is amazing. I have never seen any bag with this kind of feature.
Honestly, at that time, I thought that this bag would make me feel like James Bond. Moreover, now
everyone uses a smartphone, and it often gets discharged. So, taking care of that, a mobile
charger is also provided in this bag. After listening to all these features, we bought it.
How much will it cost you?
However, its price was Rs. 7000, which is quite expensive but its worth it.
Why you want this kind of bag?
I would also love to buy this bag from the same shop as the Owner promised to give a hefty
discount. So, this is bad I would love to have.
Model Answer 2
Introduction:
Bags are not a must-have item for me. I use a backpack for convenience. However, I am spending
some time getting to know more about bags nowadays because I want to buy a new bag.
What kind of bag is it?
I am a student, so I mostly use a backpack because I put heavy stuff inside, such as books, water
bottles, and laptops. I do not have any bag parties. So I want to buy a party type bag such as a clutch
or handbag, which might have two pockets only inside and plain texture or have little stones on the
front side.
Where you want to buy it? and How much will it cost you?
Nowadays, all things are easily available on the internet at an affordable price. So I would like to
buy bags through online websites. Online shopping sites offer a considerable discount such as 50%/
60% to 80% discount on branded products. That is why I prefer to buy a bag online. In fact, I
already started watching bag images and videos online between the range of woo to 1500.
Why you want this kind of bag?
I mostly use a backpack regularly, but I do not have a bag for special occasions, so I want to buy a
black color clutch.
Model Answer 3
Introduction:
I have many kinds of bags like a shoulder bag, a messenger bag but my favourite is a
backpack, and I would like to get a new backpack.
What kind of bag is it?
I would like to buy it from a good brand like Nike, Adidas or Reebok because they are
durable and very stylish.
Where you want to buy it?
There is a mall 20 minutes from my house, and there are many shops there that sell these brands. I
would like to get a black waterproof backpack from one of these brands with two main inner
compartments, two small pockets on the outside, and a side pocket for carrying my water bottle. In
the past, I have bought cheaper backpacks from local shops but had to replace them every 2-3
months because they broke down easily due to inferior material. I mainly used them for carrying my
laptop, books, and gym clothes. My friend has a Reebok backpack, and he has been using it for two
years. I feel that bags from good companies are expensive but last much more, and so are worth
their price.
How much will it cost you?
Backpacks made by these brands usually cost between Rs 2000-3000, but occasionally they have
good sales and offer huge discounts, especially on older models. I will wait for a good sale before I
buy it. I want to get a backpack because they allow me to be hands-free and comfortable.
Why you want this kind of bag?
I use a scooter for commuting, and a backpack works well in this situation. Also, backpacks evenly
distribute the load on shoulders and hips and don’t put weight on one side of the body like a
shoulder bag. As they don’t put much strain on the body, they are easy to carry for hours.
Backpacks also allow me to be more organized as they have a lot of separate compartments and
smaller pockets. I can keep my keys and wallet in the easily accessible outer pockets and my books
in the main compartment. Backpacks made from waterproof material can save my belongings from
getting wet.

Sample 6
There are many places mentioned in my wishlist which I would love to live in the future. I’m a very
adventurous person and like to travel the world. But, that doesn’t mean I don’t love my native town.
I was born and brought up in Hyderabad. I have a bunch of memories attached to this city. I would
like to see myself in a better and favourable place for me in the future.
To mention a specific one I would say, Mumbai. Mumbai is a city in which I would like to live in
the future. There are many facilities available which can benefit me to live a better and successful
life.
What do You Know about this City?
Mumbai is a densely populated city which is one of the most significant aspects for me to choose
this city. I love being in a city where there is less population. There are many cultural places in
Mumbai like mosques, temples and churches. It also has many national parks like the Sanjay
Gandhi National Park and the Tiger Zone National Park. It is an amazing place to tour and live in
the future with all exciting elements within the city limits.
Why do You Want to Live There?
I feel Mumbai is a city where the people match my interest. I believe I can adjust to the city very
conveniently. The enthusiastic culture of the city makes it attractive and a glorious place to live in.
It is neither too distant from my homeland nor too near. I can keep visiting my relatives in
Hyderabad at least once a month. It even has many spots nearby to visit and explore the state.
Sample 7
I would like to tell you about Tokyo, the city I want to live in the most in the future. It is the capital
city of Japan and is the most populous metropolitan area in the world.
The most important reason I wish to settle down in Tokyo is the co-existence of modern and
traditional values. It’s the kind of city where the red gates of a centuries-old Shinto shrine may well
be found just next door to a glass skyscraper showcasing the finest 21st century technology. Or
where a quiet green lane lined with wooden low-rise houses and an old school tofu shop might
sit just a short stroll from a neon-lit square packed with flickering billboards and rainbow-
bright street fashion.
The hectic life in Tokyo is also an irresistible attraction for young people. Tokyo’s railway system
seems like it was designed to win world records. It’s rare to find a location in the metropolitan area
that can’t be reached with a train ride and a short walk.I feel that the city is moving toward the
future. I believe Tokyo will become a city that is full of surprises.
Vocabulary highlights:

IELTS Speaking Part 3:
1. Do you like to live alone or share a room with others?
I prefer to live on my own. It offers me a sense of freedom to do whatever I like without affecting
or being affected by others. Sharing a room with a mate may be more fun as you have someone
to talk to, but disagreements and conflicts occurring from daily interactions may be inevitable.
2. What are the advantages and the disadvantages of living alone?
Well living somewhere on your own has some certain pros and cons, I believe. Like, our sense of
independence can improve when we have no one to rely on but ourselves. It’s the main benefit of
living alone. However, it would be tedious and maybe lonely when we have to sleep alone and do
household chores without anybody’s help.
3. What are the advantages of working abroad?
There are numerous benefits I can think of. Firstly, people have a great chance to improve their
use of a foreign language. Working in countries like England or the US, for example helps them
practice their English on a daily basis, which eventually results in the a better level of
confidence and activeness in their English communication skills. Also, people have ample chance
to broaden their horizons by learning about the progress of other countries, such as
management systems or technological advancements, right in their workplace, which not only
provides them with knowledge but gives them a chance to accumulate a lot of good skills and
experience.
4. What are the disadvantages of living in a foreign country?
There are many but I would like to focus on two that I believe are the biggest. One of the
drawbacks relates to culture shock. You know, differences in working manner or working
culture may result in employees’ reluctance in processing their tasks, not to mention the
difficulties in understanding others with a foreign language. Secondly, working in a foreign country
can also be a challenge of one’s independence. In fact, a number of people have not been able to
stay in a foreign country for the long term just because they cannot suffer the loneliness.
5. Would you like to live in a developed city with a high salary, but with polluted air?
To be honest, I am not willing to live and work in conditions where there is such imbalance. It is
because the environment can directly affect my ability to work as efficient as I can. Moreover,
money can be earned but the harmful consequences for one’s health caused by pollution
cannot be compensated. Needless to say, without health, it is hard for me to enjoy my life even
when I am living in a developed country and can earn plenty of money.

Sample Answer
Here is the sample for “Describe a place where you go to relax” topic

Model answer 1:
Introduction:
Well, in our lives full of hustle-bustle, there are very few places that are meant for relaxation.
Where it is?
I am going to talk about one of my favourite places. That place is my farm. It is on the outskirts of
my city. The distance between my home and my farm is roughly 25 to 30 kilometres. So it is not
very far and thus easy for me to go there often.
What it is like?
My farm is a wonderful place. It is spread across an area of 200 square meters. It is lush green,
picturesque and fascinating. It has lots of mango and coconut trees. I relish the mangoes in summer.
There is also a small farmhouse, a well and some domestic animals on my farm. I am a nature lover,
and the peaceful, pleasant and cool atmosphere of the farm makes it the best place to relax and
rejuvenate.
How often you go there?
I make it a point to visit my farm every weekend. I go there, mostly with my family. However, on
some special occasions, I also go there with my friends. My friends also love the place a lot.
How you feel about this place?
I feel at ease in my farm. The swing in my farm is a restful experience. Since my farm is outside the
city, the sky is clear. We can enjoy the blissful sunrise and sunset. The breeze is cool and swift.
Sleeping under the open sky in the farm gives a tranquil feeling. Hearing the chirping of the birds
and flowing of water is soothing to the soul. My farmhouse is also a serene place with warm and
colourful flowers.
Conclusion:
I simply love this place, and it is the best place for relaxation of mind, body and soul. I feel
recharged whenever I visit my farm.
Model answer 2:
Introduction:
Everything means either human or electrical equipment requires a recharge. Electrical equipment
can charge through electricity, but humans relax their bodies through various activities like
exercising, chit chat with friends, and staying free for some time. Today, I am going to talk about
the place where I relax.
Where it is? and What it is like? and How often you go there?
I live in a city with my family. My father also has another house located in a village near the town.
We go there on summer vacations, but I go there every Sunday because I feel very relaxed there and
love to spend time with nature. The house is tiny, and it has two-bedrooms, one kitchen, a drawing-
room, and a big garden.
The house temperature is less than the outer side because it covers big trees from all sides, making
it cool. I feel thrilled there because I get some time which I spend with myself and with nature.
Whenever I go there, I plant a new tree and watering all old trees, vegetables and flowers.
The place is away from the city, so I hear the birds chirping very clearly. There is a small
swimming pool in the house, and I usually sit on the corner of the lake and put legs in the water and
read some storybooks. This activity takes all the physical and mental tiredness away from my body.
Anyway, this piece of local news was aired on one of our national TV channels just a few weeks
ago. This local news was related to the tough life of an old lady, in her early 70’s, who earns her
living by selling local newspapers in my very hometown. By the way, I have seen this lady, in her
old clothes, in my home town myself on a number of occasions but never really felt the need to talk
to her or buy any newspaper from her. Instead, I have just thought of her as a mentally ill person
who could use our help.
Ironically enough though, it is her steel-strong determination of not seeking any help from anybody
to survive, as the TV news had described, that brought her story in the light. Of course, many
people had tried to help her, but she has refused to accept their help, apparently because she thought
that it was a disgrace to accept other peoples’ help and that she was very happy living like that for
over the last 30 years. On top of that, it is her who have helped many helpless and poor people from
the very insignificant amount of money that she earns by selling newspapers.
Mainly, I found the piece of news to be interesting because it made me realize that even though we
don’t value many people in our society because of their “purposeless life”, ironically, it seems that
these are the people who seem to have a greater sense of self-respect. Besides, the news also had
taught me that it doesn’t really take much money to help others but it is the heart of a person which
is needed the most to heal and help others.
Sample Answer 2:
Ahh! an interesting topic indeed. For this cue card topic, I would like to talk about a piece of
interesting and captivating local news that I read in a newspaper. It would be more than 5 years ago,
I assume, when I read this news in a local newspaper called (...say a newspaper name common in
your country…).
In a fine morning, I opened the newspaper, like any other usual day, and found a news story that
caught my eyes. It was about a giant animal that people had seen on the streets after midnight and
many of them believed that it was a ghost and could change its shape. The story even included some
local people's interviews who told the reporter that they saw this mysterious animal and shape-
shifter with their own eyes. The length of the news and its coverage with pictures were evidence
that it was getting some attention, at least to local people who like to gossip and believe strange
stories. The reporter also gave a hint that some recent crimes that the policemen were still
struggling to solve might have been connected with this unknown animal!
I am not a person who can be easily convinced with such baseless stories. However, I must give the
reporter some credit to be able to present the news very interestingly. The report did not mention a
single time that such ghost story is mostly fabricated and exaggerated. Rather it tried to convince
the readers that there was some solid ground of this news and people should be careful at night.
However, the reporter also reported his doubt about the authenticity of people's opinion. Clever
indeed, to attract both type of readers - believers and non-believer of ghosts!
The report also included that some people have informed the nearby police station that a child was
missing and they saw a giant beast around the house of this child. However, the reporter cleverly
avoided the fact that it was some hearsay, not confirmed by the police. The story that I read ended
with mystery and uncertainty. I would say it was quite engaging and this was mostly because of
how it was presented to the readers rather than the facts of the story.
Before I end, I would like to tell you about the findings of this ghost story that was published at
least 3 weeks later. The giant animal was a big panther who was sick and fled from a nearby zoo.
The authority caught it in a week. The missing child was found after 2 days and this was a common
missing-child case. Finally, the people who fabricated the story somehow got busy with other such
cock-and-bull stories.
Sample Answer 3:
Batticaloa is a city with less interesting events but the recent event of saving lives by a teenage boy,
Kushal, had created great excitement among the local citizens. In fact, this is really interesting news
for me and for most others in our city.
Due to the simplicity and ordinary living style of the local people, exciting events are very few here
and so, whenever there are some excitements, the events turn exclusive. The event took place last
Thursday when Kushal was able to stop a bus immediately before an accident. The accident might
have caused some serious detrimental impacts on the passengers and the bystanders. In fact, the bus
driver was unable to identify the newly dug holes on the roads which were unmarked by the
workers.
I heard the news on the local television channel on the evening of the same day. The television
channel publicised it as a special report periodically and described thoroughly from the beginning to
the last. The reporter also praised highly of the ready wit, smartness and bravery of Kushal.
Generally, the drivers stop their vehicles when they see a red signal and sensing the accident, the
boy arranged for a piece of red cloth to stop the bus. The news was telecasted around the day but I
was unable to know about it in the daytime for my class. After returning home, I sat before the TV
to enjoy a special reality show, and it was then when I came to know about this particular event.
The news presenter began the news with an exciting tone that a highly interesting event took place
on the day. Then he gradually described the courage of the boy and how he managed to stop a
tourist bus on a sideways in the city. Actually, the bus driver was a novice in his job and was
assigned to make a tour of the city with foreign guests. Being unskilled, he was unable to trace the
holes on the road which were meant for the road extension. The workers were on a break as it was
the breakfast hour and so they did not put any mark beside the holes. So, the bus driver moved
towards the hole while Kushal noticed that. So, he managed a red cloth from somewhere and stood
in front of the extension zones, waved the red cloth and the speedy bus stopped just before him.
The event was really interesting as it contained some excitements. Despite being a major city of Sri
Lanka, the events in the city are dull and boring. The citizens are bored with the local news of
export, import and other agricultural issues. In fact, we lead a routine-bound life which has made
life tiring. So, whenever there is something exciting, we become excited. The bravery of Kushal
was the same for us, especially his heroic stance to stop the bus was praiseworthy. He stood before
a speedy bus which could have hit him and resulting in his death or any other serious injury. The
entire event has thrilled us all and so it was interesting to me.
More Ideas to talk about this Cue Card/ Candidate Task Card topic:
Topic: Describe a piece of local news that was interesting to you.
1. The news was about the survival of a lady with a banana in a week. And I was amazed at the
news. I came to know about the news in a local newspaper here in Uttar Pradesh in India. The story
described a woman who eats a banana in a week. She eats nothing else and has been living in this
way for the past few years. The news was interesting to me because I cannot even think of adopting
such a living style. And she is fit and well with a single banana in her old age.
2. I could not stop thrilling when I came to know that a teenager can turn his head to a 180 degree to
look directly backside of him. I read the news on an online web portal while browsing it. The story
was about a teenage boy in Pakistan. The boy was able to turn his head a 180 degree. By this
turning, he could look his backward. The news was interesting because I have not seen such a thing
in my entire life. And I tried to do so. All my attempts turned into a failure.
3. To get fame, people do bizarre things and a similar event took place recently. I came to know
about an internet prankster who cemented his head in a microwave oven. I read the news on the
internet and was astonished. The news read that a prankster wanted to amaze his audience and thus
he cemented his head inside a microwave oven. But the prank went serious and it took about one
hour for firefighters to rescue him from the situation. It was interesting as I came to know about the
foolishness of people.
4. The matter of showing off is prevalent everywhere and the rising stars often do the same. I came
to know about such an issue in Russia that some of the rising stars hire an aeroplane and take some
photos. Later, they post the photos on different platforms to create an illusion of their wealthy
living. But in reality, they are not so much wealthy at all. The news appeared interesting because it
exposed the reality behind the show off of the stars.
5. A recent news in Italy arrested m attention. A couple of Italian bank robbers used a mask
resembling Donald Trump, the USA President. I heard the news a couple of days ago. The news
presenter described that a couple of bank robbers have used the mask during the heist. The police
have recovered the masks and I laughed out loud. In fact, it appeared a kind hatred towards the USA
President that even the bank robbers are also disliking him. So, the news was interesting to me.
Topic 65 Describe a time that you were shopping in a street market
You should say:
- When it was
- Where it was
- What you bought
- How you felt about the shopping experience
I would like to talk about a time that I shopped at an open-air market for several essential products
with my husband about 3 months ago.
We went to a street market which located about 3 kilometers far from our home. At that time, we
wanted to go to supermarket but my husband decided to go to this market instead. We tried to shop
around to see if we could pick up a bargain because we’re on a tight budget and we have to be
careful with money. This was in the middle of the summer sales and wherever you went prices
were being slashed on big brand names. Fortunately, we could snap up a bargain with a range of
dresses and T-shirts which made us so happy.
To me, street market is an ideal place to go shopping for some reasons. Firstly, the price does not
cost you an arm and a leg = break the bank to buy things you want compared to supermarket or
fashionable shops. Even when you are on the breadline, you still can buy some small things which
you need. Secondly, you can feel the freedom to carefully chose the items you want because the
shop assistants will never give you the hard sell as the big high street names. All in all, it was an
interesting experience that I’ve ever made.
1. What type(s) of shop would you recommend a visitor to your country should go to? (Why?)
Honestly, our country has reputation for unique cuisine, so I would suggest a tourist visit one of
the restaurants to sample our local food such as Pho, Vietnamese Bread and tropical fruits like
pineapples or mangoes. These foods would make their mouths water.
2. How has technology changed the way you do shopping in your country?
Technology has changed our traditional way of shopping a lot. Doing shopping online is becoming
people’s priority because it brings a plenty of advantages such as saving time and energy or creating
a variety of product choices.
3. What do you think are the advantages of buying things on the internet?
There are a lot of benefits for people to do shopping online rather than go to the chain shop. Firstly,
maybe they would avoid buying goods impulsively. Many times when we go out shopping we end
up buying things which we do not really need, because of the sales skills of the store assistants.
Shopping online helps us to avoid these things since we have time to have second thoughts.
Secondly, it is more time – saving than the traditional way ofshopping because we just only need to
stay home and all the purchasing process will be conducted through Internet.
4. In your country, how has shopping changed in the past few decades?
Previously, people used to go to market to buy food, clothes or their personal belongings.
However, thanks to the economic development, they usually go to supermarket and even upmarket
shops to buy what they need. Some of them also can stay home and do shopping online via Internet
to save time.
Talk about a time when you did shopping in a street market
Where is it?
What can you buy there?
What is it famous for?
How do you feel about it?
Everyone loves shopping. People like to do shopping in various places like malls, shops, and street
markets—same as them. I also love shopping. I have done shopping in several areas till now. I
remember a time when I did street market shopping which was in Chandigarh. I was there at my
cousin’s house for summer vacation. After 4 pm we made a plan to Roaming around the city.
We took our motorbike and started enjoying it. After some time, we reach sector 22, in which I
saw a lot of the hustle and bustle. I asked my cousin about the crowded place. He told me that
there is a street market which is being held every weekend. I expressed my feeling about seeing the
market he agreed. We park our motorbike and start watching the crowd who were selling things.
One can buy anything like clothes, books, utensils, and other daily routine things. This was my
first experience when I saw an Open market. I also bought few things which I needed, like a t-shirt
and shoes which I got at an economical price. There were also a lot of food vendors in the market.
One can eat a variety of foods from Chinese to Indian and Italian. However, sometimes street food
is unhygienic.
This is famous among youngsters for the latest fashionable things available at less price. After
spending almost 2 hours, I felt tired, and we went home. I really enjoy that time with my cousin. If I
ever get a chance, I would love to revisit the street market.

In my opinion, big discounts are real, because whenever there is a season off, they give customers
discounts to increase their sales and buy new stock for the upcoming season.
Topic 66 Describe an argument two of your friends had.
You should say
When it happened?
What it was about?
How it was solved?
How you felt about it?
Model answer 1:
Introduction:
Well, it is not uncommon to see people arguing when their idea’s and beliefs do not match. It results
in debate even on very minor issues.
When it happened?
Let me share one such incident when my friends got into a heated argument that took place when
we working on a group assignment.
What it was about?
Actually, when I was in grade 10th and as a part of the film, the assessment we had to work on a
group project.
We four friends had to work on a science topic of our choice and complete it in one week time. We
had to make a working model to demonstrate write an analytical report and also give a presentation
on the given date. Since the work was too much rather than managing and distributing equally two
members of our team started arguing with each other.
They were not willing to accept each other’s idea of the choice of topic for the assignment. Both
were thinking they are right the other one is wrong. In fact, they started accusing and blaming each
other for being part of the same team. Soon the verbal fight turned into a real fight and at this point
my other friend and I intervened.
How it was solved?
We stopped them and requested to stop this nonsense as if we are not going to work together we
could never complete the work in time. In fact, we rejected the ideas of both of them as they were
extremely time-consuming. We sat in the canteen arm ordered cold drinks.
How you felt about it?
Once my friends calmed down we requested them to feel sorry for each other and start focusing on
work. Though it did not easily convince them but finally they agreed and we all were happy now.
Conclusion:
Overall, it was the time when my friends got into a fierce argument.
Model Answer 2:
Introduction:
Arguments have become an essential part of our life because they help us to clarify our thoughts.
Arguments change people’s points of view or persuade people to a particular action or behaviour.
When it happened?
Today I would like to talk about the time when my two friends argued with each other. It happened
about three to four years ago during twelfth class. I was a student of the science stream. Every day,
our chemistry teacher did the new experiment, and she explained it to us step by step.
What it was about?
Two of my friends were very fond of experiments. They were always trying to do experiments in
different ways. They used to watch different videos for the same experiments. One day, our teacher
decided to do a competition between them. She told them to make soap in a minimum time. The
teacher thought they use the same method that she taught to them, but they selected different
methods that they watched on the internet. Firstly, they explained their process to the teacher. Both
methods were accurate, but they started arguing with each other for their ways because they thought
their soap making process was better but was taking less time from one another. They did an
argument with each other for fifteen minutes.
How it was solved?
The teacher strictly warned them to stopped making arguments, focus on their work and gave proof
that their idea is better than each other. Approximately after one hour, both completed their process.
The teacher examined their result and declared both were winner because they made soap.
How you felt about it?
I was afraid that this argument might affect their friendship, but I felt happy when the
teacher declared both of them the winner.
Conclusion:
Then they realized that they did the argument for wrong things because one thing could be
made through different methods, so without seeing any result, we could not declare that my
idea is better than another.
Model Answer 3:
Introduction:
Arguments are a very common part of life. But I think most arguments can still be avoided.
When it happened?
Recently, India faced the second coronavirus wave. As the numbers were rising, my friends and I
were discussing whether a lockdown should be imposed.
What it was about?
One of my friends, Ravi believed that a stringent lockdown was the only solution to bring down the
cases. He was very adamant that lockdown should be imposed without any delay. However, one of
my other friends, Vishal believed that lockdowns don’t help. He said that lockdowns lead to huge
loss to the economy and under no circumstances. Governments should go for a lockdown or a
curfew. At first, it started out in a very calm manner. We were all discussing the issue, but
eventually only they were the ones talking and we just sat there listening. They both started with
facts and counters. As the argument continued, both of their voices went up. We told them to calm
down, but at this point, they were so engrossed that they didn’t listen. Eventually, they came down
to personal attacks rather than talking about the need for a lockdown.
How it was solved?
Actually, later we came to know that Ravi had lost his uncle due to coronavirus and he sincerely
believed that he could have been saved if the government had announced a lockdown. Vishal was
adamant because his family had suffered huge losses in the last lockdown. They had been both
affected by the issue personally and that’s why they were so emotional about it. In the end, we told
them that their discussion would not have any impact on the matter. so it was a moot point arguing
about it.
How you felt about it?
But, on that day, I also thought that it would be a very difficult decision for the government to take.
Conclusion:
The real end to the argument when the cases rose sharply and eventually the government was forced
to impose a lockdown.
IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions
1. Do you think arguments are important?
Arguments have become an essential part of our life because they help us to clarify our thoughts.
Arguments change people’s points of view or persuade people to a particular action or behaviour.
OR
Yes, arguments are definitely important because they make us know about the other side of
the issues. Arguments happen when we are adamant about something but at the same time,
we fail to understand the other side. When we argue we learn about what others think.
2. What do family members generally argue about?
Families often argue about topics related to major and even minor events. Such as selecting a
holiday destination. sibling argues for their clothes and other accessories. Older adults are
mostly arguing for politician parties, mean which is good.
OR
I think arguments happened over small issues like what should be made for dinner or what
movie should be watched to big issues like how children should be raised, how should money
be spent, marriage decisions, and so on. In case, there is a family business there may also be
arguments on how the business should be run. In the end, family members can argue over
anything and everything.
3. Is it easier for you to have arguments with your friends or your family members?
A parent’s job is to look out for you and keep you safe. Remember that they don’t want to make
things difficult for you. but they want to make sure that you understand their perspective. So it
hard to argue with parents because they have much experience and do not continue the argument
with them for a long time. On the other hand. arguments with friends are easy because we are a
similar age group. and most have a similar thinking level.
OR
I think it’s easier for me to have arguments with friends because after having the argument I
get the time and space to think about the issue. So, after thinking about it I generally
apologise if I think I am wrong or I just apologise for arguing even if I feel I am right. This
ends the issue. On the other hand, with family, I don’t get the space. So, sometimes the
arguments
continue for days.
4. Do you think people should change the way they think when they have arguments?
Arguments means — where tension starts to rise. responses start to get personal. and you go
around in circles without getting anywhere. I think people should change the way they feel when
they have arguments. People should listen to another person properly before putting his/her
points in front of him/her. People should speak in a very decent way so that they do not cross
their limits and reach a particular conclusion.
OR
I think arguments happen because of two main reasons. Firstly, people are unable to control
their emotions and they say things they wouldn’t normally. Secondly, they happen because
people have very strong opinions about something. So, I think instead of proving oneself right,
people should definitely try to listen to other’s point of view in arguments.
5. If two people argue, do you think a third person should be involved in the settlement?
I think the third person should not interfere in two people’s discussion. He should be involved
only when the situation goes out of control or when someone requests a third person to help
him/her.
OR
Yes, I think a third person can bring in the much needed objectivity because the people
involved in the argument become emotional about the issue. Sometimes a third person’s
involvement can bring a quick resolution, otherwise arguments can go on for days.
6. Why do you think people are stubborn and unwilling to change?
Stubbornness means having or showing dogged/ purposeful determination not to change one’s
attitude on something. especially in spite of good/ strong arguments or reasons to do so.
Sometimes a person may be stubborn because they know that stubbornness helps them get what
they want. Such kind people have a resolute adherence to their own ideas and opinions. Also.
they have a strong resistance to change. especially when others want to change them.
OR
I think people are egoistic and they feel that they will lose if they listen to the other person.
Moreover, they come to believe or practice something because of their past experiences and
that’s why they are emotionally involved with the issue.
7. Do you think you are stubborn?
The word stubborn is not written in my dictionary. but I think one should be a little bit stubborn.
Otherwise. they may lose many things which will never come back. I change myself according
to the situation to bear each other/ put up with each other/ tolerate each other.
OR
Yes, I think it’s one of my big drawbacks. I have very strong opinions about certain things and
that’s why I am stubborn. However, I am trying to change this part about me and listen more
to others.
8. Will you be willing to change?
well. I change from time to time because it is good for us to keep updated. According to the
situation and proper evidence. I change my perspective. and I accept my mistake if I am wrong.
OR
Yes, as I said before I am trying to change but it is harder done than said. It would take time
but it is definitely possible.
Topic 67 Describe a plan in your life that is not related to work or study
5. stretch my muscles and joints – to extend your muscles and body parts to help relax it
6. injuries – pain or damage to a part of the body a cut, bruise or broken bone etc
7. costly – expensive
9. all-over body workout – exercise that works all parts of your body
10. builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness – to improve different aspects of physical fitness
ii.) The speaker acknowledges that there are many lessons young people can learn from the old but the speaker only
focuses on one specific lesson and that's making life-changing decisions, then he provides his explanation coupled with
an example. That makes his argument strong and well-discussed.
iii.) The speaker ends his answer very properly by acknowledging again that there are still more important lessons
young people can learn but he just wants to emphasize making life-changing decision as the most important learning
young people can learn. That's being organized!
What about the young people? What can they teach the old people?
Well, that is hard, I guess the old people have already lived their lives in a more meaningful way,
so basically they are wiser than the young generation in terms of life lessons. The only lesson that I
can think of which the old might be interested in learning from the young people is, learning how to
use the modern technological devices such as computers or smartphones. As we know, they are
having a hard time keeping up with the recent development in technology. They are way
behind in this internet era. So when young people are patient enough to teach them about
computers then the old people would surely be grateful.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Wiser [adj.] [comparative form of adj.] – being knowledgeable and well-
experienced in life In terms of [phrase] – with regard to Keep (ing) up with [phrase] – to learn about
or be aware of something Way behind [phrase] – being last
What are the problems that old people have in your country?
To tell you the truth, senior citizens in my country usually live on their own and I cannot deny the
fact that, they are not often visited by their children since their children have their own family and
live far away from them. Due to that, some of them experience so much depression that is because
they think that they no longer matter to their children. This is a heartbreaking social issue that I
believe people in my country should be paying attention. Another common problem that they
experience is the lack of government support in terms of healthcare. Our government only
shoulder 20% of the hospital cost whenever they are hospitalized unlike in other developed
nations in which hospitalization is completely free. Some old people decide not to be admitted to
hospitals simply because they fear of the hospital bill. I really hope that in the near future our
government should allocate more funds on health so that my countrymen especially the old will be
able to access better health system.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Far-away [adj.] – living at a great distance Due to (that) [phrase] – another
way to say because of; caused by Pay attention [phrase] – to consider Shoulder [verb] – to accept
responsibility Allocate [verb] – assign; allot
TIPS i.) The speaker uses the expression ‘to tell you the truth' as an alternative of ‘to be honest'. Use
this expression when you want to give an emphasis on facts. ii.) The speaker gives two different
certain problems (one has something to do with family and the other is about the government's
unaddressed problem) then he explains further to make the examiner gets the whole point.
Do you think old people should continue learning?
In my opinion, acquiring knowledge should not stop once we get old, we have to keep investing
ourselves in learning something as long as our physical and mental health allow us to do so. So
yes, the elderly should never make their age as an excuse for not learning something new. This
gift of life is given to us once and there is no such thing as living for the second time, while the
elderly are still alive and capable of learning, they have to make the most of their remaining
years in this world embracing learning new things. If I have the chance to live longer, I will
never miss any opportunities to learn more things even if I am old before I depart from this life.
LEXICAL RESOURCE Capable [adj.] – able; having the ability Embrace [verb] – accept Depart
from this life [phrase] – die Make the most of [phrase] – to enjoy or use something as much as
possible
TIPS i.) Instead of answering ‘yes' straightly, the speaker presents his opinion first. This is a very
good way to present an argument as to why old people should continue learning.
ii.) The last sentence is using conditional tense, the speaker talks about his personal wish of learning
more even when he gets old. This line is a supplement to his introductory answer which is his
opinion.
Topic 70: Describe a piece of equipment/household appliance in your home
You should say:
What is it
How often you use it
Who you usually use it with?
And say why this item is important to you
I’d like to tell you about the washer that is very important to my family.
It’s an Electrolux from Germany, a country well-known for making top-notch electronic
equipment. We intended to buy a Samsung, but then we changed our mind and decided on the
Electrolux.
We use the washer every day, sometimes twice or three times a day when there’s a bunch of dirty
clothes. It has a large capacity and is very powerful. If my memory serves, it can hold up to 10
kilos. And what I particularly like about this washer is the wide range of clothing it can wash and
that it makes almost no noise when it’s working.
My father bought this washer two years ago when the previous one broke down. It was just wear
and tear.
I think doing the laundry with a washer would be much less labor-intensive and time-saving.
Thanks to it, there’s no need to bend our backs to do the washing by hand. What you need to do is
just put the clothes in the washer, hit the correct buttons and wait for about 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, you can multitask such as sweeping the floor or cooking. Then, take out the clean
clothes and hang them up in the air.
On top of that, a washer is excellent at getting rid of stains or any kind of marks. In contrast, no
matter hard we try to scrub the stains with a stiff brush, soap and water, they won’t go.
You know, last month my T-shirt got stained when my cousin spilled coffee on it. I soaked it in
soapy water for hours, but the stain didn’t disappear. But then I threw it in the washer, and much
to my surprise, after many spins, it was gone.
That’s all I want to say.

What kinds of machines are there in people’s homes?
What are the differences between the young and the old in their attitudes towards machines?
What kinds of profession require people to use machines?
Will many people’s work be done by robots in the future?
What kinds of machine are used for housework in modern homes in your country?
Well, we have the normal things like vacuum cleaners, automatic washing machines and for
helping in the kitchen the usual microwave oven, blender and other electric kitchen appliances.
How have these machines benefited people? Are there any negative effects of using them?
Certainly, I think the vacuum cleaner has made life much easier for people who have carpets in their
home. I mean, can you imagine trying to clean a carpet without one. It must have been a lot of work
before they were invented. I think many people would say that the automatic washing machine has
maybe had the most impact in terms of saving time and energy for washing clothes on a regular
basis. It’s so easy now just to put the clothes in and leave them and then return later and take them
out and that’s it - done. In fact, we take it for granted, but only a couple of generations ago we
were still washing clothes by hand, which must have been very time consuming.
I don’t think there are any negative effects of using such machines, apart from the increased energy
consumption, but really, nowadays most people don’t have the option of doing things in the same
way as their grandparents did. I mean, the pace of life is so fast now that people need all the help
they can get from machines, to help save them time.
Do you think all new homes will be equipped with household machines in the future? Why?
That’s a distinct possibility, that homes will come with everything you need in terms of automation
as an integral part of the package, so you won’t need to go and buy any of these machines, they will
come as part of the home. It would make a lot of sense in most cases, and I think that in the future
we will have even more machines helping us as the way we live continues to change and evolve.
Let’s face it, doing housework is neither interesting nor fun, and there are so many other activities
that you could be spending your time on which are much more worthwhile.
What kinds of equipment do most workers need to use in offices today?
I guess the usual office equipment such as computers, fax, maybe printers and scanners, paper
shredder, data terminals and the like. It’d depend on exactly what they do for work.
How have developments in technology affected employment in your country?
Well, it’s certainly increased efficiency in a lot of cases, and that has led to some redundancies
and lay offs while in other areas the development of technology has actually helped to create new
jobs for people. I’m not sure if you could say that employment has increased or decreased as a
direct result of technology, but the pattern of employment has certainly changed. More and more
people are now employed in technology and service based jobs using technology and fewer people
are employed in traditional manual work. We’ve seen technology based customer service or
technical support jobs established and then outsourced overseas, but at the same time we’ve seen
new technology development based jobs created here, so I think it all balances out over a period
of time. However, it’s clear that most jobs nowadays include more technology than before.
Some people think that technology has brought more stress than benefits to employed people
nowadays. Would you agree or disagree? Why?
I wouldn’t agree with that personally. Technology isn’t the problem – it’s the way some people deal
with it or struggle to adapt to it that’s the problem and the real cause of stress. I mean, let’s just
imagine for a moment that to send a message to someone you still had to write it on a piece of
paper, then mail it to the recipient, then wait for them to read it and write a response and mail it
back to you. That’s how it used to be done, and it worked fine. People did business and made
money and created products and jobs, but it was all a lot more labour intensive and people
were still stressed then too. That same process now is done in a couple of minutes usually through
email. I think we need to realize that technology is not the problem; it is the way we manage it, or
incorporate it into our lives. Look at all the things we do using technology in a typical day.
Nobody says that using a microwave is stressful or that watching TV or listening to music on
an iPod is stressful. Only when we’re talking about the workplace do people start to see
technology as being a source of stress. As I said, I personally think it’s a lack of ability to change
our working habits and to evolve with technology that can cause some people to see it as a source
of stress, rather than being something beneficial.
Topic 71: Describe an activity that you do after school/work.
4. Do you think people would be happier if they didn’t have any goals to achieve?
I don’t think a life without goals could ever bring happiness. In fact, it would lead to depression.
People need goals in life not just for happiness but also to survive. Goals bring purpose to our
lives and bring us something to look forward to.
