HAPPY TO BE BACK! STARTING THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH A BANG!


A Back to School Psychosocial and Mental Health Support Program
(Counseling and Mental Health Services)

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:
To welcome back the learners in school with focus on their well being and
holistic growth this School Year 2023-2024.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
1. To help the learners start a good learning relationship with their teachers and
classmates
2. To help the learners resolve their psychological issues and concerns and be in their
best self at the start of the school year
3. Show happiness and enjoyment of being back to school by actively participating in
the different classroom activities.

ACTIVITY 1(Morning Session: First and Second Period): GETTING TO KNOW


YOU! (Grade 7 and 11)

Session Objective: To help the learners get to know each other and their class
adviser for a better class relationship.

Material: Tarpapel:Welcome to TNHS Grade 7-_ (Optional)


A flower

Procedure:
I. Prayer
II. Introduce the Game: Pass a flower!
How to play the game:
1. The Teacher will first introduce himself/herself holding the flower in front of the
class.
2. After introducing himself/herself to the learners, the teacher will pass the flower to
a learner who will also introduce himself/ herself to his/her classmates.
*Let the learners introduce themselves in their own style. For learners who are shy,
the teachers may assist the learner by patiently asking personal basic information. No
learners should be forced to talk but they should be encouraged or may be called back
later.
3. After the introduction of each learner. The whole class should greet him/her with:
* Welcome to our class____________(First Name of the Learner)!
4. Repeat step 2 and 3 until all learners were able to introduce themselves in the class.
5. After the self introductions the class will give themselves a round of applause.

III. Goal Setting


Help the learners set a goal for the school year by asking the following questions:
1. How well did you perform last year? ( Let each learner talk about their
achievements and shortcomings the previous school year.)
2. How do you feel about it?
3. Would you like to feel better this school year?
4. What do you think will make you feel better at the end of this school year?
5. How are you going to achieve that?
6. Write your goal and how are you going to achieve it a piece of paper to be
placed in your HGP-CGP portfolio.

ACTIVITY 1(Morning session: First and Second Period): HI! HOW ARE YOU!
(Grade 8-10 and 12)

Session Objective: To help the learners start a good relationship in class this school
year 2023-2024.

Material: Tarpapel:Welcome Back to TNHS Grade _-_ (Optional)

How to play the game:

2. After introducing himself/herself to the learners the teacher will pass the flower to a
learner who will also introduce himself/ herself to his/her classmates (name only) and
will talk about a happy experience the previous school year.
*Let the learners introduce themselves in their own style. For learners who are shy,
the teachers may assist the learner by giving guide questions. No learners should be
forced to talk but they should be encouraged or may be called back later.
3. After the introduction of each learner. The whole class should greet him/her with:
* Welcome to our class____________(First Name of the Learner)!

FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS:

ACTIVITY 2: (Morning Session: Third and Fourth Period): KUMUSTAHAN


(Psychological First Aid)

Session Objective: To help the learners cope( or reflect/learn) with their experiences
that had an impact on their well being last school year and during their vacation.

Materials: None

Note: Unfinished task from activity 1 may be continued before conducting activity 2.

Procedure:
1. The teacher will introduce the activity to the class: KUMUSTAHAN
2. Start the activity with community singing.
* The learners will choose a happy or inspirational song that is known by many.
3. The teacher will encourage the learners to share their unforgettable experiences last
school year and during their vacation that may have a lasting impact in their life.
Everybody is expected to share but no one should be forced to do so. If after much
encouragement a learner still refuses to share, the teacher may give him/her a chance
to compose himself/herself and he/she may be called later.
* Take note of shared stories that needs referral for proper action.
4. The teacher will process the learners experience focusing on giving support,
assistance, inspiration, encouragement if needed (some learners only need their stories
to be heard and that will already make them feel fine). Refrain from giving unsolicited
advise.
5. Repeat step 4 and 5 until all the learners were given the chance to share/talk.
6. Close the session with another community singing.

ACTIVITY 3 (Afternoon Sessions: Fifth and Sixth Period): GAME TIME!

Session Objective: To set the mood for happy learning this School Year 2022-2023.

Materials: As needed

Instruction to Teachers:
1. Think of some parlor games that will not involve physical contacts.
2. The game should bring out the importance of cooperation, active participation,
team work, and observing rules and regulations.
3. Facilitate the play time observing the safety protocols.
4. The game may be done inside or outside the classroom with the close supervision
of the teacher.
5. Process the students experience every after each game.

Processing questions:
1. Did you enjoy the game? Why?
2. What made you win the game?
3. What made you lose the game?
4. Any lesson learned from the game?

*There could be more than 1 game to be played per period but always make sure to
process each game.

ACTIVITY 4 (Seventh Period) IKAW AT AKO TULONG TULONG TAYO!

Session Objective: To help the learners commit themselves in realizing a happy and
fruitful learning experience in the school this academic year 2023-2024.

Procedure:
1. Community singing.
2. Introduce the activity to the learners: Group Sharing.
* Set some guidelines to ensure full participation and discipline during the group
sharing.
3. Ask the learners to share the following: (Small group sharing)
a. Their expectations for this school year.
* Take time to share the outputs of the small groups to the whole class.
b. Their commitments for this school year.
* Take time to share the outputs of the small groups to the whole class.
c. Their goals for this school year.(refer to their outputs from activity 1)
* Take time to share the outputs of the small groups to the whole class.
4. The teacher will also talk about her expectations and goal for the class this school
year.
5. Community singing.

ACTIVITY 5 ( Eighth Period): EVALUATION

Session Objective: To find out if the objectives for the psycho-social support and
mental health program was fully achieved.

Materials: Evaluation Form

Procedure:
I. Evaluation
1. The teacher will explain the importance of evaluating the activities of the day.
2. The teacher will ask the students to accomplish the evaluation form.
EVALUATION: Complete the following statement: (May be answered in tagalog
or Iloco)

2. My classmates are_______________________________________________
3. My teachers are_________________________________________________
4. The activity that I enjoyed the most was the___________________________
