Soala: Por Nuestra Tierra Protagonista (Soala: For Our Dirt Protagonists)

I. INTRODUCTION

An unexpected pandemic awoke the whole world. For the meantime, the normal life that
people used to live was no longer allowed and numerous restrictions were implicated. Due to
the COVID-19 virus, many lives lost, most of them suffered in their hospital beds with
excruciating pain with no assurance for survival, and some could not even afford getting
themselves checked because of the financial shortage. It made people no longer sleep properly
at night as they think of what might happen the next day and the possibility that themselves and
their loved ones might be the next victim. Due to the pandemic, people have forgotten other
existing problems in our society and environment.

Alcohols, masks, face shields and other protective elements have surged in supply due
to the needs for them. In addition, the fact that business owners of such took the pandemic as
an advantage and increased their prices. Since people need to protect themselves because the
virus is physically unnoticeable and microscopic, it may already invade their body. Therefore,
washing oneself is a necessity even staying at home. Thus, it is the most practical yet effective
way to keep our exterior physically clean and our immunity strong which can be achieved with a
proper personal care product. A product that does helps clean our body, and at the same time,
mitigate our environment’s condition.

Amidst the severity of the pandemic, there are still individuals who reject to follow the
health protocols provided by the government. Some doesn’t even practice basic sanitary
cleanliness; the worst, there are still those who refuse to believe the virus’ existence. In order to
grab their interest, the creation of “SOALA” soap is brought into presence. Composed of natural
ingredients, with no side-effects nor harmful chemical compounds, plus this soap is eco-friendly
and efficient as well. Since, the production of the soap is not only focused to prevent the virus,
but also to keep our environment from degradation no matter what the situation is. With this
soap handed out and being implemented, hopefully less COVID cases would arise in any area
and more people would understand the value of keeping our health and environment safe. 
 Furthermore, the composition of our soap is certified and beneficial for one’s health well-
being. Since most of the ingredients are in the form of “oil” that are found in vegetations
extracted to be liquified. Some of the advantage of this is that since they are found in nature,
they can produce effects that can moisturize and nourish the skin. At the same time, they can
be considered as a renewable resources which means that they are eco-friendly. These
ingredients include: Unrefined Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Olive Oil, Lye (Sodium Hydroxide),
Distilled Water, Peppermint Essential Oil. These ingredients help to form our soap and make it
visually appealing and fragrant as well.

The area that have been chosen to be distributed with SOALA soap is the 47 affected
barangays in Cebu City. The reason behind this is to encourage the people within this area to
practice adequate hygiene, and hopefully reduce and prevent the upcoming cases of the
problem from arising due to disregarding self-hygiene and basic health protocols. The SOALA
soap will be donated to the janitors, street cleaners, and other public workers in those specific
barangays so that we may equally and fairly use our PHP 300,000 budget. When distributed,
the materials for packaging are recycled papers such as newspaper to strengthen the promotion
of eco-friendliness. In addition, these newspapers are used and been collected from each
members of a neighborhood. Unlike other packaging, they are not bought, they are donated by
people who support the product’s implementation.
