ACTIVITY NO. 4:

VIDEO NO. 1:
In the first video, the definition and characteristics of culture is being discussed. I’ve
learned that culture has something to do with our beliefs, behaviors, traditions, religions, and any
other aspects of life. It also states that culture is learned because we are capable of adapting
specific human attitudes and behaviors and acquiring skills on our own. We're constantly
learning about our culture by observing and understanding the beliefs and practices of others.
Also, culture is shared because we, as a human being, we love to share culture with other
members of our group, we can act in socially appropriate ways as well as predict how others will
act. The video also stated that culture is symbolic and encompassing, meaning it affects everyone
in society and shapes every aspect of our lives, including our values, personalities, and way of
life. Furthermore, because of culture, people are being interconnected and able to exchange
different ideas and beliefs that can improve their perspective in life. Most especially, culture is
dynamic, in the sense that it constantly changing and provides widespread information to the
people and community. Culture makes the people and society create a foundation wherein it will
shape the identity and existence of one’s thing.

VIDEO NO. 2:
In this video, it tackles about the culture in moral behavior. It also identifies the four
types of culture: material culture, non-material culture, ideal culture, and real culture. Material
culture refers to the tangible objects created by a society, particularly by humans. Cars,
buildings, clothing, and tools are all examples of material cultures. Non-material culture is a
tangible thing produced by culture or more likely refers to the abstract ideas and ways of
thinking that make up a culture. For examples are traffic laws, words, and dress codes. On the
other hand, real culture is about the standards and values a society actually has, instead of
pretends or tries to have. While ideal culture refers to the practices, values, or norms that society
is supposed to follow or desires to achieve. It refers to those goals that society considers ideal, or
worth aiming for. Furthermore, it also explained the characteristics of culture which is learned,
shared, transmitted, and changing. Also, it includes how culture shapes our moral behavior. Our
culture shapes the way we work and play, and it makes a difference in how we view ourselves
and others. It affects our values—what we consider right and wrong. This is how the society we
live in influences our choices. But our choices can also influence others and ultimately help
shape our society.
VIDEO NO. 3:
The third video taught us how to appreciate the culture and traditions of the Filipinos. We
all know that Filipinos are rich in culture and tradition and it is something to be proud of. One of
the precious things that Filipinos have is their respect for others. Kids, youth, people of all ages
know how to show respect and courtesy. In addition, the use of “Po at Opo”, “Pagmamano” or
putting the back of an elder’s hand on your forehead, and calling our older siblings or elders Ate
or Kuya has been part of our tradition showing how we really value respect. Aside from this,
Filipinos are known for being hospitable. As a Filipinos, it is our pleasure and honor to welcome
all visitors and to build a genuine relationship and friendship with them. Also, Filipinos treat
everyone as part of their family and may even serve you a feast of home-cooked Filipino dishes.
On the other hand, Filipinos are very religious too. We worship devoutly in our cathedrals and
mosques. Also, as part of our religious traditions and customs, we celebrate different rituals,
fiestas, festivals, and ceremonies. These Filipino cultures and traditions shape and define one's
identity and existence. It influences our lives and allows us to be more connected to one another.

VIDEO NO. 4:
This video emphasizes the strengths and weaknesses of the Filipino character. Values and
characters guide our beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. It provides patterns of living and prescribes
rules and models for attitude and conduct. On the other hand, we, as a Filipinos, there are many
things that we have to be proud of, but there are also weaknesses we need to address in order to
resolve it. The video identifies the different strengths of the Filipinos such as being respectful of
elders, hospitable, having a strong faith in God, being flexible, creative, and ready to share and
help. Filipinos have a remarkable ability to adjust and adapt to changing environments and their
physical and social environments. Whatever occurs, the Filipino overcomes. We're creative,
resourceful, quick learners, and can improvise and make do with whatever we have on hand to
create and produce. In addition, Filipinos have a cheerful and fun-loving approach to life and its
up and down, pleasant disposition, a sense of humor, and propensity for happiness that contribute
not only to the Filipino charm but also to the Filipino Spirit. We tend to make a joke about our
good and even bad fortune, to smile even in the most trying of times.
On the other side, there is something else that a Filipino should consider, and that is their
weaknesses. Filipino usually say “Bahala na” which means that they disregard one thing if they
have no idea what will happen next. They say this phrase as if all they want is to go with the
flow, not minding what the outcome might be. Also, Filipinos are “ningas kugon”, they love to
do something with enthusiasm but afterward, they also lose interest and stop whatever it is
they’re doing. Filipinos have also a habit of “Kanya kanya”, which means selfishness. Filipinos
sometimes have a lack of appreciation resulting in unhealthy competition. As a Filipinos, we
should understand our culture and values, as well as remove our weaknesses and develop our
strengths.
VIDEO NO. 5:
This video is all about major elements that define culture. The first element is the symbol
which means anything that is used to stand for something else. Symbols have something to do
with our culture because it provides different meanings and conveys ideas and beliefs. Language
is also an element of the culture since language is a system of words and symbols used to
communicate with other people; thus, language reflects the nature and values of society and
engages someone who understands it well. Some other elements that define culture are values,
norms, folkways, and mores. These elements offer many insights and guides individuals when
dealing with diverse nationalities and make an effective social interaction with everyone.

VIDEO NO. 6:
The sixth video explains the role of culture in moral behavior. I’ve learned that the moral
codes that we follow vary from other people because of the different cultures the whole world
has. I also learned that even if we have different cultures, universal values still exist because
every culture must follow established rules for their respective societies to survive. In addition,
Filipino culture had constantly adapted to other cultures as a product of its history (colonization,
trade, immigration, etc.). The strengths and weaknesses convey our unique qualities and express
our Filipino characteristics. Even though we practice these weaknesses at times, I learned that we
could still overpower those with our strengths.

VIDEO NO. 7:
This video went over in identifying the Filipinos values and cultural traits. Values help
define the character of a culture and offer viewpoints about ideals, goals, and behaviors. It also
serves as a standard for social life. As what Filipinos have, they have different values and traits
that will really emphasize how much they respect and appreciate their country. In that case, we
can’t deny the fact that the Philippines is one of the countries that have a strong family tie. In
fact, our family stands as a teacher who teaches us significant life lessons and values that mold
their children to become better people as they grow to understand their worth. Moreover, Filipino
is more popular for being “maka-Diyos” (faith in the Almighty), “maka-tao” (focuses on truth,
justice, freedom, love equality, and peace), “maka-bayan” (includes respect for the law, the
government of the Republic of the Philippines and its instruments, patriotism, promotion of the
common good and building a just and humane society), and “maka-kalikasan” (involves in the
conservation and development of our patrimony). Aside from these traits and values, Filipinos
can also keep pace with the others’ countries with their knowledge and skills. Filipinos excel at
inventing and developing new products from recycled materials. This will just prove that
Filipinos are all in and they are prepared to cope with the ever-changing world.
VIDEO NO. 8:
The last video addresses Filipino values and moral development. It highlighted the
strengths and weaknesses of the Filipino character. Filipinos have been described as friendly,
outgoing, sensitive, easily offended, nosy, garrulous, direct, hospitable, feisty, irreverent, good-
natured, clever, witty, gregarious, happy, generous, easy to laugh, gracious, easy to befriend,
casual, fun-loving, sensitive and hospitable. Filipinos have a unique characteristic that is loved
by others. On the other hand, Filipinos have also a downfall. One of them is having a crab
mentality, someone who enjoys spreading humor and drag others down. Also, Filipinos have
lack discipline. We loved to take shortcuts and sometimes impatient and carelessness. These
characteristics play a significant role in our moral development because they influence our
decisions to do the right thing and avoid doing the wrong thing. It will help us grow as people
and morally shape our lives. Once we have learned to appreciate and value our characteristics,
building our nation, achieving goals of peace and social justice will come next.
