SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN ENGLISH

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Identify sentences in active and passive voice
b. Determine context when to use active voice and passive voice and,
c. Construct Sentence when to use active voice and passive voice.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: EN7G-III-c-2 Use the passive and active voice meaningfully in varied contexts.

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Prayer: The teacher will choose the student to lead the prayer.

The class secretary will be requested to check the absent in the class.

The teacher will ask the students on what are those things that should be considered is the
class is going on.

The students will past the assignment at the count of 10.

Motivation:
The students will be given an activity. They will gong to identify whether the sentence is ACTIVE or
PASSIVE Voice.

The class will be divided into 3 groups. Below is a summary of the story “My Father Goes
to Court.” Read thoroughly the selection and determine how the characters behave or
act and the consequences or result of their action in the story.

A thorough discussion of the topic, ACTIVE AND PASSIVE voice.
What is Active and Passive voice?

Active voice means that a sentence has a subject that acts upon its verb. Passive voice
means that a subject is a recipient of a verb’s action. You may have learned that the
passive voice is weak and incorrect, but it isn’t that simple. When used correctly and in
moderation, the passive voice is fine.

In English grammar, verbs have five properties: voice, mood, tense, person, and
number; here, we are concerned with voice. The two grammatical voices are active and
passive.

Active voice: the subject of a sentence is followed by the verb and then the object of the
verb (e.g., “the children ate the cookies”).

Passive voice: the object of the verb is followed by the verb (usually a form of “to be” +
past participle + the word “by”) and then the subject (e.g., “the cookies were eaten by the
children”). If the subject is omitted (e.g., “the cookies were eaten”), it may result in
confusion about who performed the action (did the children eat the cookies, or was it the
dog?).

Active voice examples

Example Monkeys adore bananas.


The cashier counted the money.
The dog chased the squirrel.

All three sentences have a basic active voice construction: subject, verb, and object. The
subject monkey performs the action described by adore. The subject the cashier
performs the action described by counted. The subject the dog performs the action
described by chased. The subjects are doing, doing, doing—they take action in their
sentences. The active voice reminds us of the popular Nike slogan, “Just Do It.”

Passive voice examples


Example Bananas are adored by monkeys.
The money was counted by the cashier.
The squirrel was chased by the dog.

Let’s take a closer look at the first pair of sentences, “Monkeys adore bananas” and
“Bananas are adored by monkeys.” The active sentence consists of monkeys (subject) +
adore (verb) + bananas (object). The passive sentence consists of bananas (object) +
are adored (a form of to be plus the past participle adored) + by (preposition) + monkeys
(subject). Making the sentence passive flipped the structure and necessitated the
preposition by. In fact, all three of the transformed sentences above required the addition
of by.
Application:
Construct sentence by changing statement is it is ACTIVE voice, change it into Passive
voice. If it is Passive voice, change it to Active voice.
